so your expectation for this card is having the ability to run higher resolution without being affected by low FPS?

 

No, not exactly.  My resolution will be the same as it is now 3840 x 2160 ... what I'm hoping is that the card can deal with particle systems (FX) like smoke, jet wash ... also deal with dense clouds with high AA settings without taking much of an FPS hit.  And maybe if I'm very lucky, shadow processing (terrain shadows?) and reflections will be faster and I might be able to tweak the prepar3d.cfg to increase the quality of shadows without take a huge FPS hit (especially during dawn/dusk).

 

Where the Titan X will most likely NOT help are things like AutoGen building density settings (kills performance and consumes a lot of VAS), AI traffic, road traffic, ship traffic, VC.

 

But first I must secure a Titan X.

Just saw couple reviews. Too bad that P3D still doesn't support SLI, otherwise 980x2 SLI beats Titan X by quite a wide margin.

 

Of course, Titan X has 12GB memory, so it should be able to run 4K resolution with 4xDSR. My 980 can only handle around 2xDSR at 4K. Rob is absolutely right, with high AA + high resolution settings the FPS can be easily bottlenecked by GPU. This is where top-end cards (money!) can finally make a difference.

I think this sums it up and too bad this is still the case. I had my hopes maybe P3D now at v2.5 was making better use of all that power found in today's modern GFX cards and not only in when running at very high resolutions and AA settings.

I am still hoping for a SLI driver so I don't have to sell my 2 Titans ( first generation ).

 

The cards are setup as "sli" so the load is more balanced between the cards.

 

@Rob, as you tested with former Titans in "sli" I am curious to know if the Titan X outperforms that....

Me too ... it'll just be Titan X's ... I'll keep hoping too (along with a lot of other folks I would imagine) ... we've certainly do our part providing nVidia Feedback and I know LM have been working with nVidia soooo...

Not really a gamble for me, HDMI 2.0 support alone is enough "value" for me.  But I'm easy to please (based more on knowing how much is involved to deliver product be it hardware or software) ... takes a lot of BS to really turn my tide (it has been done a couple of times by certain vendors but it's pretty rare).

I think you will see a real improvement once P3D is DX12 compatible. this card will be a beast.

Clouds, volumetric fog, the particle system, and AA will load up the GPU .

 

And anisotropic I assume?

There is no way I would pay anywhere near $1000 on a graphics card. Any higher, and you could make an offer for Lockheed Martin itself!!

I've seen several threads at this forum by people being extremely disappointed in performance after upgrading their GPU. This has kept me from upgrading my 760, which is working just nicely, especially after the introduction of the optimize_parts tweak. 

 

I don't think P3D will fully benefit from powerful GPUs until we see a 64-bit version.

meh...more about proper Nvidia driver support and SLI...if that ever comes.

With a mildly overclocked 970 I notice the slowdown through heavy cloud and particularly when the volumetric fog is out.

 

Looking forward to some more graphics grunt but having upgraded in January I'll wait and see what the first wave of purchasers think.

 

Noticed that a new NVidia driver became available thru Geforce Experience while I was typing this(!). Maybe this'll be the one with P3D support.

I'd wait for the pascal architecture....

Sadly no ... driver was released yesterday along with Titan X support.  The good news is that it hasn't broken anything in P3D.

Lots of settings can be found in NVI.

 

And in the NV CP performance can be checked.

I think I'll be holding off the upgrade from my 980 and wait for a Pascal GPU (which Nvidia says will be 10X the performance of the Titans)
