UTX EU v2 vs FTX Vector - final verdict for VAS?

Featured Replies

Hello,

The title says it all.  I've done several searches trying to find a definitive answer to this but still am not quite sure.  I have Vector now but really do 99% of my flying in EU so I'm thinking about getting UTX EU v2.  I know at the very least it is probably more accurate due to its use of commercial data.  But, my biggest thing I'm looking to gain here is VAS.  Some reports I've seen is that Vector uses 800M.  I haven't tried disabling it yet myself to verify that number but that seems like a lot!  Numbers I've seen for UTX EU are around 400M.  That's quite a savings if it's true.

Anyway, can anyone help out with their results?

Thanks!

Regards,

I can fly twice as long with UTX compared to Vector... up to 40 min.

Once I even made a landing before the usual OOM crash!

UTX Europe v2 is MUCH easier on VAS than FTX Vector.

Once the P3D version of GEX is released, which will be soon: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic50894_post324022.html#324022

I will be abandoning the FTX Global series of addons completely, they are far too resource intensive. Whilst they may look very pretty in some places, they are just not worth the FPS and VAS hit; especially if you run complex aircraft addons.

I also strongly dislike their "prerequisite" business model - by which I mean you have to have either FTX Global or a particular FTX region installed in order to use their airport addons. I was glad to see their recent HD Trees release was completely independent of their other baseline products.

Are you using the configuration in Vector or using as is, with everything ON?

At least there are no price difference when it comes to P3D.  Apparently LM charge an arm and a leg for license product working for P3D, so much so that F1Tech needs to recoup their cost.  I don't see how GEX would lower VAS versus FTX Global.  After all they are just textures.  I have also turned down Global Vector settings to reduce VAS usage as well.

Interested to see what evidence you have for this? Seems that Flight 1 and PMDG are mostly using excuses when most other developers seem content to charge the same and must be working off the same developer license.

+1   I had FTX Global/Vector in FSX and have refused to install either one of them on my recent P3D install.  I did get UTX 2 which is fantastic and also awaiting the P3D version of GEX which will have awesome night textures to compliment UTX.  FTX Global night textures were very poor IMO as they could not be seen from altitude....which is very unrealistic.

What evidence that you are interested to know?  The VAS usage of FTX Global?  I don't have any as I don't notice VAS hit.  Global Vector on the other hand does consume VAS if you select all options.  If you referenced the F1Tech price?  Well you already know they charge more.

I don't use Vector in P3D its a real performance hit for me.   But i use global as there is no performance hit and australia dost look like a Descartes lol.
