Radar Contact is a brilliant program IMO. I used it for months in FS2002. Presently, I use FSCOF ATC or Vatsim. If you don't mind canned ATC, it's very worthwhile trying. Much more versitile that FS's ATC.Adam

You can download the user guide from their web site. Not quite a demo version, but that will give you a fair idea of what it looks like and how it works. Also, there is a new version coming out in the future, though when is unknown, so that may factor into your decision. I've been using RC for a little over a year now, and I won't fly FS9 without it. The ATC is fairly predictable, but so is the FS9 ATC. Where RC wins it with me is the arrival phase of the flight. FS9 will start vectoring you to the approach 80 miles from the airport. RC doesn't start vectoring you until you are within 40 miles, which is the extent of the approach controller's area of control, and you don't get handed off to tower until about 5 miles out. Much more realistic. You can also opt for a flexible departure (FlexDP) which lets you fly published departure procedures rather than just getting vectored by approach.Mark Kuebeler

Another thing RCv3 allows is requests to fly published approaches...ask for a published instrument approach and it won't bother you at all until you're at the Final Approach Fix, and it's time to switch to the tower.Great software, RCv3. I've been using it on my round-the-world flights.Regards,Kurt "Yoda" Kalbfleischwww.simulomundusrex.blogspot.com

You ain't seen nothing yet, wait for us finish V4 very soon. Canned chatter? What you will get in RC, V4 is like nothing you have ever seen. Can't go into the technical details of V4, but it is quite good IMHO (grin)Check our website: http://www.jdtllc.com/Bob JohnsonDenver

I would only like to see one advance made in v 4.0 - to do away from current distinction in sound between "canned" chatter and synthesized voice. If I hear canned chatter I know it is not for me because it sounds so much more realistic. If I hear sysnthesized voice I know I must pay attantion because it may be directed at me. Without this problem solved (which ruins realism for me) I will remain on VATSIM.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

Next to Vatsim, RC is the best there is.JimCYWG

>>>I use FSCOF ATC >>What's that If I may ask?fairly obvious! its fs9 under its real name: flight simulator century of flight.

Great to hear about V.4. If it is as much of a leap forward as v.3 was to FS2002, I'll be getting it for sure. It will be interesting to see what MS does with their ATC engine in the next version. I would be surprised however if it could rival RC in complexity.Oh, I must be more careful. In my original post I said "canned ATC". Ofcourse I meant "canned chatter".Adam

Wonder if it's worth getting RC V3 now and upgrade to VC 4 later on. Or is V4 something completely new and will I have to learnt things all over again...? Will there be an update policy at all?

I've used RC for several years and have found it to be a must have in my collection. As many have mentioned above, RC does have many IFR options, however it really doesn't support VFR that I know of. It also doesn't interact with AI traffic at this time(that I'm aware of), however I had heard that there was some work going on in this area. I normaly fly IFR anyway, so the VFR isn't a problem for me. In either event, this program is waaaaaaay better than the canned stuffMS has IMHO.

Doug,<>I think you might be pleasantly surprised by what v4 will offer. I suggest that if you haven't already done so you get an Ai traffic package such as Ultimate Traffic. We've been testing with Ai set to 100% with UT and the results are excellent! You'll never feel alone again!I think it will continue to be a must-have for you :-)Cheers,

RC 3.1 does recognize AI traffic in that it will alert you to conflicts but no AI control. RC 4 as Ray states has quite a bit of AI control as well.I use 3.1 AI Smooth freeware V1.00 with "Respond To User Aircraft" disabled to thin things out at dense airports for reducing take-off queues and landing congestion. I use Ultimate Traffic 2 with 80% AI. With proper settings it can also enhance RC 4 according to beta-tester postings in their support forum here on AVSIM.On that forum it has been posted that there will be a 3.1 to 4.0 upgrade fee but no specifics. Developer programmer JD of the team - and they really are a team of knowledgable pilots and controllers - has posted he will give a link to a progress blog on the new version. No firm release date is set since they thoroughly beta test their products before release.

I never fly without it. There is no comparison with FS9 ATC. You can load FS9, FSNavigator (converted to FS9) and Radar Contact flight plans with no hassle. But, if I have to hear about "Ms. Mac and the big dog" one more time, I'm gonna scream!:-lol Wilson
