Trainz: New Era

Some US content ie routes are no longer available for customers outside of the USA. BNSF have altered their lic agreement with DTG,so TS2016 will have no interest to me as I only enjoyed using US routes. Weird situation to be honest.

Not just the agreement with DTG. Apparently BNSF is blocking everything using their logo/likeness outside the US.

Unfortunately, our licensing agreement with dovetail is for domestic U. S. use only. In order to provide international use of our brand and logo, BNSF would have to register our trademark in every country. That would in turn mean we would have to devote extensive resources to a team that would manage our image and branding worldwide. Additionally, we would then have to collect royalties on any product that uses our branding and logo, which we currently do not do.

I hope this information answers your question. Thank you for your support.

BNSF's asinine licensing scheme has also affected the hardware train hobby as well, with many non-US based manufacturer's having to scrap tens-of-thousands of dollars worth of already manufactured stock.

BNSF is the train hobby's equivalent to Gulfstream and Textron... :diablo:

Now thats just strange. I would think that if BNSF is not registered in a country, any manufacturer in that country can do whatever they want, as long as they don't try to sell in the US (since I would guess BNSF would be loathe to offer any such manufacturers a US license)

Only manufacturers with US licenses would have anything to lose, since if they sold outside the US, BNSF would likely pull their US license?

AT&SF was very liberal and didn't require licensing.

Burlington Northern were the ones who would not even license at all.

After the merger between them, the compromise was to allow only U.S. licensing.

Maybe Burlington Northern should have fired a few lawyers during the transition.........
