It's great to see another train sim. Congrats to them creating this. I might buy the basic version to support this. It has a lot of potential.

Better get accustomed to it. If Dovetail can make flightsims more mainstream, gentlemen like this will be providing some of the most looked-at reviews......

I don't care too much for Paul "Da Squirrelnuts" either.

Yikes! That first engine's horn sounded like a wet fart...

 

...and the interior was bloody awful! Those windows were horrible.

 

The last scene was not only stuttered, but the last bridge was the final straw for me. Trainz will not find a home here.

FSX still here, TG!

There seems to be plenty of videos on Youtube for reviews of both TS2015 and Trainz.  I just watched one the other day from Frooglesim and he seemed to have mixed feelings over Trainz: A New Era but enjoyed it nonetheless.  As I watched his review, I felt it was a bit cartoonish, lacking some reality but maybe that's because I've been spoiled over all the 3rd party add-ons for FSX.  If you could get 3rd party add-ons that are of the quality of ORBX and REX into a train sim, then it would be a money maker, but that's just my opinion.

You can tell Pete is a journalist though, and has experience in writing (books, magazines etc) because he sticks to the point, knows what he wants to say and is engaging from start the finish. When dealing with subjects that can be quite dry at times, he really does very well. He does well at keeping his own personal belief out of it as well, something others struggle to do.

 

Other then the scenery being highly accurate in TS2015, the realism and complexity just isn't there for me. As I've said before, the cabs only have basic button control. If the realism was enhanced in those areas, with cabs where the buttons actually worked, that would help bring it up for me. But, maybe the competition with Trainz and things like multiplayer with signal control will help push them

So another words, Pete is being subjective and objective.  One the best ways to pull off a good video review is to be unbiased, objective and subjective.

 

I have worked with many simulators in my lifetime and the one thing that always nails it for me is a "realistic immersion".  Yes, having buttons that don't function is a huge turnoff.  You can still find plenty of that material in any sim and as for realism, that should extend to the environment that the sim is in.  Case in point, FSX in it's raw form, does a decent job creating a virtual, realistic world.  Over the years, third party devs have built off of that and made the sim much better.  So back to train sims, I have to tread lightly when it comes to previews and rely heavily on reviewers.  Again, the lack of good realism kkills the immersive experience, but that's partly my opinion and partly the point to creating a simulator.
