I like the hump yard setting up freight trains

And one thing I noticed with TS, successive  trees seemed identical... this would prove quite boring in game

when is TS16 due out?

middle of september has always been the release for dovetale to release to the next version, and as clockwork there was a pretty good size patch this month for the move to ts 2016.the next 2 years is gonna be exciting for trains and flight sim fans alike, with the unreal engine for ts 2017 and dovetale releasing its flight sim.i am sure trainz will work itself out after several patches are released.

Trainz has a bad time with random tree positioning. Very bad.

As for Rockstar: We can only dream that TS2016 will look anything like that.

That being said, TS2015 has its moments. Where sims fall down repeatedly is in the textures and lighting, and just on post processing generally.

The actual base polygons are usually not that bad at all. Its those little things Rockstar can add and that a sim usually doesn't, that bring a world to life.

Yes, pretty good detail in that TS video

The thing with GTA is that there's so much to play around with.  For example, take one train plus an old car .......

That is not realistic

The last time I did that with my car it got totally smashed on the first impact...

Can you imagine some gook kid believing the physics in there and trying things like that in real life? Almost as a set up to unrealizable expectations as does porn

There was never a time in my conscious (self aware) life, when I was that stupid. Its not Rockstars fault if somebody tries something like this, its the fault of whoever raised the kid with defective reasoning skills.

I remember once running around the house with a towel as a cape, pretending to be Superman, and my grandmother helpfully informing me that I really couldn't fly.

I couldn't even have been 8 then, but I remember noting internally that adults apparently thought children were crazy. I rolled my eyes and ran off to play some more.

"Gook kid?"

Sorry, can we just remember that Rockstar made £2,600,764,817 in 4 days of GTA 5 opening. 2 years later, the PC version came out, and we don't know how much it made from that, but we can assume it was a big amount. Comparing Rockstar with P3D or Dovetail, or XPlane is pointless.

GTA cost what...£150 million to produce, and it more then doubled that in 4 days. let along the rest of the days. I say doubled, but paid off cost and then some...

Please don't do that. It's pointless. It's Rockstar. Produced by some of the best minds of Scotland, England and America. And you want to compare that to the rest?

I'm not saying that developers in Lockheed or XPlane or Dovetail are ######, but come on.

Are we to assume that DTG and others are too small to do better textures? And that state of the art lighting and post processing is beyond them, when its not uncommon for a single modder at home to match or better what they do?  The question would then be how much of a pass do they get and for how long?

Who's finally empowered to mention that the emperor's "clothes" are looking a bit worn, and when is that finally appropriate?

Its not money; at least not always. Its also about of focus.

In fact, I'm assuming that the move to these new engines is largely driven by DTG's and Trainz own recognition of how far they have fallen behind, and of what they need to do to be competitive.

If they themselves recognize that, what does that say about us that we feel the need to be so delicate?

But but but...all children I know are crazy

They grow up to like rap, etc...and murderous video games... What ever happened to quietly sitting around the parlor piano and listening to aunt Mae play Mendelssohn? when modders where mothers that played Chopin....

Guess I studied too much physics in school and not enough PlayBoy....geehh /// its never too late too catch up on that eh?

The adults are much crazier.

I know. There is a rather large kid still inside of me, and he's pretty sure that many of the "adults" surrounding him are stark, raving nuts.

Just watch the news.

Anyway i came here to decide whether to get Trainz, which to me is a brand new thing, or Train Sim 2015, which is older yet wiser (?) ...though about to be replaced with 2016

I think maybe Trainz but the reviews are sad...

Trainz a new era is not a disaster. I'm convinced they'll find their feet and issues will be sorted etc, but its true that it's really an evolutionary step rather than the revolutionary leap many were hoping for.

Even when wishing them all the best, in the video below it's hard to give them credit for a game made in 2015. On the other hand, later in the vid, it looks better but runs badly. I suspect when they get the framerate up to par, to where they can really start taking advantage of the new effects/features, then they'll finally have a worthy sim/game for us.

And the modders really need to get in there, big-time.
