July 11, 201510 yr Commercial Member I had an email advertising it yesterday; I took the plunge and bought it last night. Spent a good two hours enjoying the walkaround, pausing to do stuff like find all of some of the interactive bits in the cabin and the outside. Very impressive! Tried to start it up on my own without referring to the manual, just the checklist; failed miserably. Used the quick start to get it running, lined it up, took off, lost power, crashed.... Pretty sure I've got a bit of learning to do to fly this one!! Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
July 11, 201510 yr this is a class study simm, so it has a learning curve certainly. most common mistake i have seen is on takeoff, advancing condition levers full forwrd to its travel end which is T/M mode, advance the condition levers only to its MAX position (before T/M), do not overshoot MAX position or you will have no power on takeoff for climbing. point the camera view to the condition levers and pull them with your hardware levers or mouse to MAX, each position has a detent, you see it visually like a clic. enjoy this is one of the best aircrafts for xplane Manuel Merelles

"Push the CL's to the last detent before the firewall. NOT all the way to the firewall." Well then, it would seem that there was my mistake. Well, that and switching to an external viewpoint to admire the aircraft. I forgot to mention that I wasn't all that concerned about whatever was messed up, since I was doing a customary "let's see how far we can get before having to crack the manual. In other words, I was expecting to fail miserably. ^_^ I do the same with all aircraft I install. Sometimes it goes smooth, especially when the aircraft has a fairly logical flow. For example, I managed to get both the NGX and Q400 (in FSX, of course) started without opening a book, and with the Q400, not only did I get it started, but I managed a short test flight. But then the Q400's complexity lies in actually getting the thing from point A to point B successfully. That said, I look forward to learning the Saab! Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
July 16, 201510 yr Awesome first flight from KSBP to KPSP...no issues. Is there an easy way to set the course (or align) to the VOR? Like a method to change the course more than one degree per click? Same with heading. That's a slick plane...excellent modeling all around and flying through the LA area was able to maintain a good frame rate. No clouds to speak of which helps a lot. Good stuff.
July 16, 201510 yr It is a superb aircraft. The only problem I seem to have with it is when I go to descend and set a negative VS. The aircraft seems to fluctuate in maintaining the VS I set and doesn't really descend well. Apart from that, one of the best aircraft you can get.
July 16, 201510 yr Interesting. I didn't see a way to dial in a VS so assumed it was based on current rate of descent. But I first started with IAS and then when I needed to slow more changed to VS and reduced throttle. Also moved props full speed assuming it's similar to the king air...probably a poor assumption so I have some reading to do. Also seems this aircraft taxi's easier than some others I have (carenado in particular).
July 16, 201510 yr Commercial Member To adjust VS, move down to the Autopilot panel on the center pedestal. You'll see a large cylinder with a ball in the centre of it on the left side of that panel. The ball houses the VS thumbwheel. Push forward and hold to adjust descent in fpm or pull backward and hold to adjust climb in fpm. This is a grab, push/pull and hold thumbwheel just like on the real aircraft. When you are satisfied with your climb or descent rate (indicated on the EADI in the upper right corner), release the thumbwheel and the VS will stay at the selected rate.
July 16, 201510 yr the VS will stay at the selected rate Except in my case it doesn't. I'm sure it is my fault somehow.
July 16, 201510 yr Except in my case it doesn't. I'm sure it is my fault somehow. Are you in A/P VS mode? some screen captures my help to understand what is going wrong for you. Good stuff. clic & hold + grab to the right or to the left, for faster degree rotation. The farther you drag the faster it will rotate Manuel Merelles
July 17, 201510 yr Thanks for the reply but I just tried it again, and the only thing I get when I move my mouse to the heading and course dials is the arc with arrow and dragging does nothing (left click + move any direction). I get no double headed arrow. All i can do is single click to change one degree at a time. Same goes for the preset altitude dial. I wonder if something is conflicting. Tried a flight from KSAN to KPSP and while sitting near the default ramp start, I witnessed an AI 717 banking hard and crashing into some buildings north of the runway. First time I saw that happen. Then taxiing to the end of 27, a light twin went barreling through the jet blast barrier. Is this gizmo related? Also, I have a head-bob effect now that I didn't have before, but it happens in other planes only since I installed the Saab. I have the Simcoder headshake add-on but it is not that...this is a different effect. Even in camera view outside the plane the world wobbles. Any ideas what it is or how to disable? Thanks in advance! Except in my case it doesn't. I'm sure it is my fault somehow. I tried VS and didn't have any issues aside from the adjustment in the center console is difficult to work with. Maybe if you haven't tried, increase your flight models per frame to 3 or 4?
