  1. In order to place an "activation freeze" on your account and "run out of license slots" requiring intervention from support you have to re-install your OS or purchase three entirely new machines in the space of six months. Please explain how this is unfair and how you've somehow exceeded it and I will adjust my care factor accordingly. This is exacerbated by the fact that you claim that you are "coming back" to XP... this strikes me as very odd because if, as you say, you're coming back after some time, one would assume that any machines that you may have activated "in the past" would have already automatically expired leaving you with no intervention required. You bought a License to Use the software. MOST companies grant a single concurrent use license. We grant a three machine license by default. Additionally, we are working so you can de-activate your old machines at will without interaction from our support people but this, like all things, takes time and money. Thank you for your understanding, I look forward to your detailed reply.
  2. I purchased a new dedicated Windows machine yesterday so I can investigate all bugs more effectively. I've been running X-Plane inside VMWare which is limiting at best. Previously I could tell Gizmo loaded on Windows but that was about it. Now I have a serious gaming rig for Windows/Linux dev. It's still going to take some time but we're committed to resolving this.
  3. Confirm that the ground physics model is customised.
  4. More interested in wasting as little time here as possible. We both know any real answers lie elsewhere.
  5. Because no content is ever injected over http without user permission, right? https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/11/verizon-x-uidh
  6. Injecting weather into a custom flight model that you own 100% end to end is an entirely different problem to that of injecting weather into X-Planes flight model to work with all existing aircraft.
  7. It's not a technical problem. It's a time problem. Can we get back on topic and help the OP find some Linux content options?
  8. For the record; the number of users now actively complaining that Linux support has been dropped is now three. Three people.
  9. Let me know when the Linux user base crosses 30%+. I'll be willing to re-open this discussion then and only then. Good day.
  10. Option A; work at a loss on Linux port. Option B; enjoy time with my family.
  11. As a developer with a passion for mil jets, get DCS. X-Plane is missing a lot of fundamental things that make having a fighter interesting. Like, you know, the entire suite of useful combat facilities. Building an in-depth mil product for X-Plane requires building all that extra stuff as well. With civilian stuff we already have a plausible framework to build on.
  12. No. There are currently no Gizmo product available that modify your AI traffic in any way. Sounds like you have "Cinema Verite" enabled. Have a look through the views/camera menus. It's a checkbox in there somewhere. Again, not a Gizmo function. Hope that helps.
  13. "Push the CL's to the last detent before the firewall. NOT all the way to the firewall."
  14. Please file a support ticket with X-A. We can modify your license records so that you will need to renew at something more suitable to you. Our system provides you with three hardware keys by default. If we were to change your licenses to require activation every two weeks that would give you three hardware ID's to use over a six week window. If we change your records so that you need to activate weekly, you have three hardware IDs to use in less than a month. Our latest update now saves your activation password (encrypted, per machine key) so any renewals are easier than ever. I'm working to enable "auto re-activation" which will allow for basically painless product use, so long as you have permanent Internet available. (will be opt-in. "Internet required" annoys me. I live in rural Australia and have very very poor internet.)
  15. Allowing for "de-activation" requires a closer coupling to "always on internet" and being able to phone home and check that the license used isn't supposed to be deactivated. I chose to design the system to allow users to have up-to six-months (by default) between needing to re-activate their product. This also means you only need active internet on your sim machine every six months. For some people this is very important. Design of a DRM system is a compromise between budget and client requirements, I still feel we have it right. The exceptions here are purely that. Exceptions. Be it multiple repeated failed hardware or participation in a high-frequency beta program. These are NOT normal day to day operations for an average customer. (Please be aware that I am currently on moderator review and any replies are likely to be lagged by several hours.)
  16. This is an extremely exceptional case of bad luck in todays day and age. Please be patient. Activation for 99% of customers is something that takes less than five seconds.
  17. What'd we do before TV and video games? Oh, right.
  18. Take screenshots of your "clouds seen" vs your "cloud settings" and report the issue.
  19. f-act is graphics frame rate achieved. f-sim is physics frame rate achieved. When you go under ~20 the flight model keeps running faster than the graphics output. This keeps the control response reasonable* even though your screen displays as a slideshow. *Extremely light/heavy aircraft may become unusable. As will anything with extremely stiff landing gear setup, which may include helicopters.
  20. Yes it is. Just copy the folder over. You can then run the installer/updater and it'll get the Mac apps for you. Third party payware is something that you'll need to deal with on a case by case basis. The better stuff will just work. Some thing may need a re-install. Be aware though that the Mac OpenGL drivers are "less than ideal". If you're after FPS numbers above all else you're better off using Windows or Linux. If you're after a comfortable OS and a nice computer, Mac will do the job well enough. (I use an iMac and OSX.. could care less about chasing 10 more fps at any cost.)
  21. Does this occur when using default aircraft without any plugins? Eg: The C172. The Cirrus Jet. The C400.
  22. Glad to hear you're up and running again! Some further information: Your "Machine ID" string is an anonymized hash token generated by asking the OS for a unique serial number and passing that through an MD5* function. This machine-id is visible in the activation GUI for diagnostic/support purposes and to show you clearly exactly what information we use to ID your machine. (* Yes, I know MD5 is "broken". In this instance it represents no threat. MD5 is fast and easy to use for multi platform work.) Your activation is NOT affected by: - The location of your X-Plane folder. You may move it around on your disk as you wish. - The number of items in your X-Plane folders. - Your internet connection. You only need to be connected during the activation process. Your DRM activation IS affected by: - Re-formatting or possibly re-installing your machine OS. A re-install for repair may alter the serial number we draw on. A re-format will definitely alter the serial number. - Moving your X-Plane folder to a different machine. - Multi-booting your machine and using the same X-Plane folder. - Timed expiration. As explained above. Default is six months but duration can be configured by Cameron if required. - Deleting X-Plane Prefs folder contents because I was silly enough to store the license file in there. ( The file is called "X-Aviation License Database.lua" and can be backed up and restored as you like. ) On my wish list: - More information in the GUI regarding which products you have installed and what the state of their license is. - Moving the license-database OUT of the prefs folder so we stop getting zapped. - Smarter "garbage collection" for expired items in the license-database with removal based only on expiration date so that you can easily share one license file across all your machines if you so desire. It is possible to re-activate an existing hardware ID without using any additional slots. If you delete your prefs folder contents and have to re-activate you will not use any additional slots. The server will detect a re-used machine-id. Your license duration WILL be extended six months from the date you activate though. This can be useful if you're going on holiday with your laptop. The GUI could be smarter about handling this use-case. I have also considered an activation scheme similar to Apples iTunes Content DRM which allows you to activate and de-activate upto 5 machines yourself. This approach requires access to your internet connection though and because of that we choose not to use it. If anyone has any special needs regarding their license please contact Cameron at X-Aviation through the support channels. He is able to forcibly expire a machine ID and/or provision more activation slots on a case by case basis.
  23. Your license expires every six months to allow for a rolling hardware update. By default you are given 3 hardware "slots" to allow for upto 3 installs. Each of these will expire every 6 months. This allows for a relatively painless transition between new hardware, or a multi-OS install, or a 3 machine sim-pit, or whatever. (You are NOT given 3 installs to allow people to "share" product costs between a group of friends. Yes, this happens.)
