July 21, 200520 yr I am looking at a situation where I am at the point of reinstalling FS9. I have all my files backed up and ready to go. It takes some time, but I am expecting to have a cleaner version after I finish the re-install.My question to everyone is how often do you reinstall FS9? And once you complete the reinstall, do you see an improvement in performance as apposed to the old installation? If you do this often, what are your tricks to keep the time down?Of to do some reinstalling....:DKevin
July 21, 200520 yr I've only reinstalled once when the patch came out a while back. It was a long process, but worth it in the end. I didn't necessarily get better framerates, but loading time improved a lot. There are many good practices, but the one thing that helps me most is making a detailed list of all the addons to install, in the order you want to install them. Leave things you don't use as often (like aircraft) until the end and just reinstall them as you use them. Put things like FSUIPC near the top of the list, with aircraft more towards the bottom. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
July 21, 200520 yr I think it would be much faster to clean up FS9 using Flight Sim Manager....unless you have a system crash that you are unable to recover from.Mark. Mark CYYZ
July 21, 200520 yr Only way I would reinstall it is if I replaced the hard drive or got an new PC. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
July 21, 200520 yr Just replaced my FS harddrive... first copied the entire FS9 directoryover to another disk, installed the new harddrive, copied the directory back. Made sure that the drive letter was the same and took off..No need to re-install... period. Bert
July 21, 200520 yr Never. Install on a new computer, yes, but reinstall? We talking computers here, not planting annuals. There's no way reinstalling can "speed up" your sim, unless you are dumping aircraft, gauges and scenery in the process.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM

July 21, 200520 yr I have only reinstalled when absolutely necessary, in other words as part of a system rebuild. I agree that a reinstall in it's own right would not speed up the sim but of course it does offer a chance to dump excess baggage (gauges, scenery, etc). I would imagine though that just removing and replacing FS9 would still leave excess baggage if I can use that work again hidden away in the registry from certain addons etc so a thorough registry clean would be appropriate as I guess.Sorry kinda got side tracked. I have reinstalled perhaps 3 or 4 times each time at the time of a hardware failure or because of major 'bugs' in the system and never just for the sake of reinsralling FS9.Andrew Brownhttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
July 21, 200520 yr I've reinstalled 2 or 3 times only because I had to. But each time every aspect of my performance improved so much I swore I'd do it more often. Of course, I don't, I wait until the next crisis, but I'm sure you'll notice a big change. Let us know how it turns out.billg
July 21, 200520 yr i will reinstall it when i get a new computer.it still runs great, even after 1.5 years of being installed.i have once rebuilt the fs9.cfg,that is all,as most problems were related to me doing something wrong.cheersJP.
July 21, 200520 yr Never and have even moved it to a new hard drive with all my add-ons. Yes, in some of the add-ons I needed to re-direct them to FS04.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
