The PMDG 747 release..

I just hope they are more realistic than the 737. I mean come on, everyone knows the switches that are used all the time have a muted sound while the ones rarely used have a "snap" to them.

John Ci, you made my day with that post about the Cardinal! We still love to joke about that alleged "issue" at the DF forum to this day. In fact, every time we preview an aircraft, someone comes in to joke and invariably says, "the wing dihedral is off"!Funny thing though, the 177's dihedral was correct from the start, it was just folks looking at photos, which almost always deceive as to perspective, color, etc. Ultimately, when we updated the 177, Mikko Maliniemi actually increased the dihedral to an unrealistic amount, so the airplane would match what folks think is correct! :-lolEven funnier: Mikko's father owns a Cessna Cardinal. Thus, we had folks looking at nothing but photos and arguing with the modeler of the aircraft who actually has the real thing sitting at the airport! These days, I let it all roll off my shoulders, especially when I turn the key on my real Piper Dakota, and bring that O-540 to life. Can't wait to model my Piper Dakota, and have folks tell me what is wrong with it! :-lolRegards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

>I just hope they are more realistic than the 737. I mean come>on, everyone knows the switches that are used all the time>have a muted sound while the ones rarely used have a "snap" to>them.Almost every single switch in the 744 will do what it is supposed to. And by the way, just because a few switches might not work does not defeat the realism factor from the 737, it is to this day one of the highest quality add-ons ever

Glad you dropped by Lou--I was thinking since the 177 was mentioned, is Mikko still will Dreamfleet? I still think Dreamfleet is the best outfit to get a Lancair IV-P out--that is of course, if you get the dihedral right :-beerchug-John

Unless of course you provide convincing proof in a form of some sound analysis. Michael J.

"...Ultimately, when we updated the 177, Mikko Maliniemi actually increased the dihedral to an unrealistic amount, so the airplane would match what folks think is correct! ...."I demand to have my Cardinal changed back to the correct dihedral or Flight 1 and Lou in particular, will have the full force of the British legal system down on their heads.:-grnmd :-jumpy ;-)

Yeah I was just kidding. Thing is some will agree and demand a patch. I enjoy realism but some get carried away. I complained early on that Level D's 767 was only capable of 4x acceleration.I got my head ripped off in the forums by some who considered it a sin to accelerate. LD did change it to allow 8x though.

I'll be honest, I have some real problems with how much this bird will cost, but Im tempted...seriously. Only thing that might keep me from it is that I just dont have time for long haul flights. I spend max 2 hours at the sim. 4 kids, busy work life and a wife...no time for long haul! Besides, the middle of the flight is boring to me. I like the TO's, approaches and landings. Maybe I should get it just to do those? Not having flown an airliner in months, if I were going to get nuts and buy a heavy duty airliner, which would be best, something from PMDG or LDS? (I have the PSS A320 and have no problems with uber detail, FMC's etc.)Eric

Eric,The LDS 767 is a fantastic aircraft. I've flown it since the day of release and very much enjoy it. I am also very much a die-hard PMDG fan and will be purchasing the 747-400 as soon as it is released. As far as long haul, your right. I don't usually have 5-6 hours in one sitting to fly but who says you can't do short hauls with the 767 or 747?:-) Heck, I know it may not be "real world" but FS isn't "real world" either. It's your plane,,,fly like you want to;-)

You remember the incident a bit different than myself but you can do what you want. There was a lot more to it than just the angle of the dihedral, but I tried to be nice :) Now, there were a lot of us who thought it looked just right. Doesn't really matter to me. Heck, I knew the Cessna series had dihedral, but I had a hard time seeing it when I walked out to the plane to preflight. As someone else said, the planes look different on different monitors. Folks, it really all comes down to this being a simulation, a game really. I can see the beacon flashing in the PMDG virtural cabin on the 737 during the day and it doesn't bother me. The power settings of the aircraft I fly don't match what the sim planes use and so what? It is meant to be fun. I think a lot of people have lost sight of that fact and have become too picky, too impatient and too inmature. Rant over.

Actualy a 747 may be a much more realistic aircraft for short hops than a 767. There are many short hops flown by 747-400Fs. The cargo 747-400F has even much shorter range than its pax equivalent.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

True, but I have a 767F route that will beat any other cargo route operated by a jumbo hands down!! UPS flies a 763F KSAN-KLAX!!

Hello,I'm just a sim pilot and an "addon junkie". Since I lack realworld experience with being a pilot, could anyone explain what I should expect from the PMDG release that I do not have with my "Ready for Pushback" 747 sim's.I am retired and can put a lot of time to flights - I prefer to keep them under 1000 nm but have flown the RFP 747 for some time. Thanks in advance,Ron SagelNear KCHS

>I'm just a sim pilot and an "addon junkie". Since I lack>realworld experience with being a pilot, could anyone explain>what I should expect from the PMDG release that I do not have>with my "Ready for Pushback" 747 sim's.For starters, RFP has only analog and tape gauges. Also, you can expect the PMDG to have better quality (heaps better actually) 2D and 3D cockpits. One more thing about RFP - I absolutely love the hand flyer characteristics of this big mamma. Not sure if PMDG can match it.Cheers,Keith

Hi Eric - I agree with you. Long haul is dead, what with a wife and a job, I can't do long haul either, because of so many other things going on. Sure, I flew the 747 RFP from Dar Es salam to luxembourg and went to a wedding and dinner, then came back and landed it, but that ain't the point is it?Still, my last 747-400 real flight was in a THAI Bangkok to Phuket flight and that pretty much proves that 747s can be well used for short haul. In Asia, particularly Japan, they do this all the time. Domestic Japan flights using 744s.I am getting the PMDG 744, but it will probably be only for short haul.
