The PMDG 747 release..

Featured Replies

RFP is for the classic 747 and the pmdg offering is for the newer -400 series. RFP may be more demanding, but the glass-cockpit of the -400 series is the modern equivalent of the 747. A whole different bird IMHO. Real pilots could write a thesis on the difference between the two. I own the RFP and still fly it sometimes.

The RFP 747 was/is great piece of aircraft addon. However, I am still drooling over the prospects of the PMDG offering, mainly the systems management and most importantly the FMC programming :)

Thanks- That's one short route! Are you sure it's not KSAN-KONT (KONT Ontario is there S. Cal hub, although they do indeed fly into KLAX too). FedEx have a large operation at KLAX.Bruce.

ASEL, Instrument.

KBJC, Colorado.

Yep it is KSAN-KLAX, I guess there isn't enough volume in SAN to have the aircraft fly all the way back to KSDF or KONT, it must just pick up some packages at Diego then fill the rest up at KLAX on its way back to KSDF

I think that was the F1 C-172...and I think they were right.. :-)Eric

Now that the PMDG 747-400 has been in service for about 3 weeks - just what do the pilots that have it actually think about it? looking back has it lived up to all the pre-release expectations? thanks but i'm still deciding on this one. i note that some users have issues with memory use and stutters with the aircraft. hopefully this and other things will be sorted in a future service release.:)

I think it is simply the best heavy aircraft yet developed. The folks with the no-memory and stutter problems are in a small minority. Many of the problems are system-specific and can't be fixed with a patch and I have no doubt that the PMDG crew will take care of the others. It's a real joy to fly that's for sure.Doug

I think it is the best ever enhancement for the MSFS series.Michael

I am finding that the more knowledgeable the user (i.e. real 747 Captains, First Officers and "serious" simmers) the higher the level of admiration for the complexity of that aircraft. It is a bar raising simulation! I judge a simulations fidelity by the detail level of the bugs discovered by subject matter experts. Many of the comments on this one resemble acceptance test DR's (discrepancy reports) on "real" simulators. :)Not withstanding the group of users who have show stopping problems because of unique system issues it is a great product. The fidelity of this plane out distances the vast majority of users..... today. Is it better than PS1? Not as a systems simulator (yet), but the overall simulation immersion is much better IMHO. :)Bob... :)

Don't even think about getting it, if you have a P4 system, there's a HUGE Memory Leak, affecting LOTS of people, and PMDG won't even acknowledge.

>Don't even think about getting it, if you have a P4 system,>there's a HUGE Memory Leak, affecting LOTS of people, and PMDG>won't even acknowledge.>I have made several 6 hour flights, have a P4 and do not have memory leak problems. I also would caution anyone against sweeping statements concerning "LOTS" of anything without actual facts. Of course if it is your Ox being gored then all of my comments will probably just tick you off. Sorry. :)Bob... :)Capt. R posted this today:http://pmdg.forumsplace.com/message2140.html

Hello all, Well, I can just tell you of my experiences -- until PMDG releases some kind of patch which will fix the problems I am having, the 'Queen' will remain a hanger queen. And to be honest, I'm surprised that I haven't made a stink about wanting my money back.It seems that this product acts differently on different systems -- and I don't know why, and neither does PMDG. Some people have NO problems at all, some have minor problems, and some, like myself have lots of problems. Please dont say RTFM because I have, and have an ex 747 Captain who lives right next to me, and he can't figure out the problems either. So, for some it's great, for me, well, it's not so great . . . go figure.BestClayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Same here. Put mine in the hangar until they can fix the issues some of us are having.Jeff

Considering the 10s of thousands they have sold, the problems posted on the forums are actually about the same as some much smaller releases. Being a high end sim thats a good sign. I know that does not do anything for the people who have problems but its soemthing to remember. My system is all new latest hardware and custom made which always seem to have compatabilty problems but I guess I was lucky. Had some stuttering while on the ground at busy airports but the "optional" patch cleared that up.

I guess I am pretty lucky. I have never had an issue with any add on that was due to my system. I fly both on a laptop and Desktop. The only aircraft I have ever had a problem with was the Lago MD-80 which is off my hard drive. Other than that all is well. I fly the PMDG 737 series the DF727 the LDS 767 and Now the 747 and I can report they all work well. I feel pretty lucky.
