I am not sure what you mean by cherry picked. So they were passing south of the storm that was the size of Iowa. But the radar does sweeps left and right. So the weather to the south should have shown up just as clearly. When you are going to be be ballsy and cut things close like this, you have to be nimble with the radar and your deviations. If you are not, then you end up having to explain yourself. They could have even deviated a little back to the right as the gap closed and fly into the weaker returns and avoided the magenta and attention. But they didn't and so they're on the news and we all get to talk about it now.

Well, it was reported that the hail exited the exhausts like a snowcone machine!

 

It is hard to imagine what a horrible racket that would make. Coming to a State Fair near you, the RR turbine snow cone machine.
