AI Traffic programs - what is everyone using these days?

Featured Replies

I tried (paid for) MyTraffic and UT2. I found the MyTraffic GUI cumbersome and aircraft models circa FS2000. Went to UT2 with good GUI and reasonable aircraft visual models.

Fabulous work mate and above all thanks so much for your generosity in sharing your hard work with us :)

Whoa...  "Generosity" and "hard work"? The hard work and generosity in zipping files that were actually created by others "hard work"? Or is it another type of "hard work"? Just trying to get it straight.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this exatly what the illegal AI addon is doing? Gathering freeware into a package and distributing it?

Sounds very very similar, even if it's not meant to be. Original authors have granted permission etc?  Just sayin'.

777200LRF,

I dont think it is anything illegal here. What Pete is doing is he is enhancing the experience for UT2 users. First off, to use his files, one would need to have bought and installed a copy of UT2 on their machine. UT2 also has a power pack which allows the user to add/modify/update etc their own installed AI plans and fleets. He has used this tool and added tons of latest updated fleets and plans and compile a new db which anyway is allowed legally by UT2. Besides, the models and liveries that he is using are all freeware that is readily available for anybody to download and use.

This is exactly what Pete has done in my opinion. I would say it is no different from anybody else modifying, say, an AFCAD of a payware airport and putting it on AVSIM or any other site. God knows, we see enough updated and tweaked AFCAD's in the AVSIM library bringing a payware airport to more current and "realistic" parking positions, etc.

Cheers,

Dinshaw.

Not really, UT2 provides the option to share your personal databases and your individual updates. The only difference here is that Pete does not only provide the updated databases but basically everything, including the ai traffic models and textures. Regarding this, yes, it is the same as those illegal ai addons do, but as a matter of fact, in a forum and only via PM, it is only "private". He is not redistributing it on a specific website, advertising it and calling it "a AI traffic addon". Without you buying UT2 you can not use his files, therefore I would not compare it with the illegal ai addon which is basically a free all inclusive package.

In my case for example I am only interested in the updated schedules, not the ai traffic models or textures (I downloaded most of them already on my own). At least this part is absolutely legal and supported by UT2 itself...

Greetings, Chris

Could I have the link please? Would like to check it out!

I think AnkH has hit the nail on the head above, and those putting this effort down should put some effort into understanding the situation if they want to chuck their 2p in, rather than rushing to be bandwagon heroe's.

How about putting some effort into understanding that the hard work in question was taking the hours upon hours of actually creating, checking and beta testing the plans and repaints etc, not the zipping them up for those that can't be bothered.

What Tooting has done in sharing the zip file is very very kind in sharing and may or may not skirt the copyrights of the original files creators, but the vast majority of any thanks should still go to the original authors of the work. Do any of the users that downloaded and use that zip even know who those people are?

This topic is locked.  I knew when it was started there was obviously an agenda here.  It is getting down folks to any topics about the "best AI" program is never going to be discussed here in the future just because of the actions of a few.  AVSIM does not tolerate piracy in any form.  So, just even thinking about it is wrong.  As someone said earlier, this topic about the best AI program, etc., has been beaten to death.
