Uninstalling ORBX Products

Featured Replies

Hello all, I'm a rare poster here but when I have posted with a question, I've always been incredibly appreciative of the support and assistance of the folks here. I'm back with another question, this one with regard to uninstalling ORBX products. I currently have ORBX Global, Vector, and Trees installed, along with several terrain corrections for FlightBeam airports.

Given that I do the majority of my flying in the United States, and have been experiencing some minor performance issues, along with blurries and slow rendering of textures and night-lighting (as well as a general dissatisfaction with overall night-lighting), I wanted to make the transition to GEP3D and UTX 2.1 (along with a clean cfg), in an attempt to see if these will give me a better experience. But I digress.

I'm aware that in order for GEP3D and UTX 2.1 to properly install and function, all ORBX products need to go. I'm also aware that uninstalling the aforementioned can be a bit tricky. How, exactly, does one go about cleanly and completely uninstalling *all* ORBX products, and the various remnants they may leave within the P3D directory? I've attempted to do some research on this issue but never saw a convincing answer -- I've also seen G3P3D/UTX converts mention that they uninstalled ORBX products, so it seems to be possible.

At any rate, I was wondering if someone could possibly explain/guide me through the process of uninstalling all my various ORBX products, so that GEP3D and UTX will properly install and function. I don't care for the idea of wiping P3D and doing a clean install but unless I can figure out how to remove ORBX, I'm afraid I may have no other choice.

I wanted to shoot this post out early this morning, as I plan on making the move to GEP3D/UTX later today at some point.

Thanks much,

Ben

I dont know about GEP3D, but UTX works great with FTX Global and Trees HD. In the manual you can find how to mix UTX with Global in different variations.

I also still have FTX Vector installed for elevation, I just unchecked the Vector entries, except AEC, in the scenery library.

Cheers!

Thank you a bunch, David. Hugely appreciative!

I'll post again if I have any further questions.

I saw this was the case whilst researching GEP3D/UTX/ORBX tonight. Seems there are a handful of available combinations. What has tilted the scales towards GEP3D are the following: night textures, possible performance boost, autogen layout. Going to give the GEP3D/UTX combination a try, see what I think and proceed from there. May end up returning to the ORBX package, or end up with some combination, similar to what you mentioned.

That's the great thing about uninstalling Ben - you can always reinstall. However, I took the same route as you, to GEXP3DE and UTX and have not looked back. For much of the same reasons you posted, I prefer that combo over the Orbx product. I have kept the various Orbx regions ( PNW, NZ, etc) installed and they work fine with the others.

Is there a way to uninstall FTX Vector ??

I have noticed it has heavy impact on performance for me.

I'd use the Vector Configurator to play with the options first, but you can just remove the checkmarks for the scenery entries and they will be disabled.

ORBX!Vector_OBJ

ORBX!Vector_APT

ORBX!Vector_CVX

ORBX!Vector_EXX

ORBXVector_AEC

Like Louis said, disable first, in fact, have you considered turning off some of the features within vector?  You may find that by doing just that, the performance will pick up.  I would not uninstall unless you have exhausted all other options.

Hi all, unfortunately the ORBX uninstaller didn't work for me (it wouldn't run, was unable to create the 'ORIG' folder during the uninstalling process).

That said, I manually deleted my ORBX folder within P3D, removed the various entries in the scenery library, and went through and deleted all ORBX textures/sceneries I could find within my P3D directory, and then restored my backed-up textures.

The one issue that still remains is the alteration of terrain.cfg. It would seem ORBX makes changes within there.

Does anyone happen to have a backed-up copy of an original, unaltered P3D terrain.cfg that I could replace my current one with? Many thanks.

You could delete your Terrain.cfg and open the P3D install file. Then do the repair option

Demious,

I am considering purchasing UTX. However, I also don't want to lose the AEC. Did you notice any performance impact using UTX, along with Vector for elevation correction?

Vertigho, hope you didn't see this as hijacking your thread. That was not my intention.

No worries whatsoever -- feel free to use the thread however you wish.

I can't answer to your question on AEC, however I can state that I'm absolutely thrilled with GEP3D and UTX. I ended up doing a full reinstall given my lack of comfort with the ORBX uninstallation (or lack thereof).

I was able to turn *up* my autogen, and managed to gain roughly 5 frames and significant smoothness. The autogen itself looks phenomenal, both in terms of the raw aesthetic and the placement. While ORBX's night-lighting was quite nice, UTX provides a softer, orange'ish haze, a glow of sorts, and is visible from higher altitudes. I'd give UTX a slight edge in terms of night-lighting.

VAS has been alright. I did a flight from KBOS to KPHL (FlyTampa to SunSkyJet) by night and got the warning dings on final, I'm assuming due to a combination of the night-lighting and the fact that downtown Philadelphia is right next to the airport, meaning there was a lot going on. I simply lowered my texture resolution from 1024x1024 to 512x512 and the dings went away and I landed without issue.

All-in-all, I'm really pleased with my move and don't see myself going back. That said, it's ultimately a matter of personal preference.

At any rate, I'm deviating from the topic at hand. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than myself can answer your question with regard to AEC.

Thanks Vertigho
