October 11, 201510 yr So i am contemplating the upgrade to win 10, my rig is for flight sim and it took me alot of time to get P3d 2.5 and the addons (ezdok) and the such to run smooth but i finally got it to run good. Now LM comes out with 3 and my upgrade to windows 10 is ready for download. What to do. SO my first question is can i just upgrade windows and everything will be hunky dory? or do in need to do a clean install of everything? October 11, 201510 yr except for you sceneries you need a clean install. you can lkeep almost all your sceneries and bring over you scenery.cfg. Which is probably the most time consuming to install..especially if you have Mega sceneries. You have to reinstall Orbx and FSDT/Flightmeam which is not a big deal. Go for it. P3D V3 is the next FSX upgrade. Except for the water... Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

P3D V3 is the next FSX upgrade. Except for the water... I got to disagree here. I did the upgrade to windows 10 from Windows 7 pro and except for the fact that I also put in two new SSDs, which confused the issue initially...Never...evvvver change two major problem things at once! I finally got it sorted out and it was not Windows fault… Once the SSDs were recognized and I had cloned my boot drive to one of them...the UPGRADE install went flawlessly...(except for a 0 bite file in....I think an Orbx file....google it and search for that here.)...once deleted, Windows finished the update with EVERYTHING as it was in Win7Pro....AfreakingMazing!!! Sooooo, Why not try it?.... If it doesn't work, then yes, of course, do a clean install If as in my case, and many many many others, it results in the monumental, wonderful sleight-of-hand by Microsoft, Win 7 Pro one moment, Win 10 Pro the next ...you're way ahead of the game… Just relaying my experiences with Win10 update. October 11, 201510 yr I just installed v3 into a fresh install of Windows 10. The results are very nice.
October 11, 201510 yr Is there any reason why LM recommends W7 64 bit? I was going to upgrade until I read what LM recommended and decided to hold off. I'm running ver 3 now in 7 with no issues. Sean Green
October 11, 201510 yr I think LM didn't test W10 enough yet but it works perfectly fine with P3D. Recommended also doesn't mean it is the best or exactly what you need. Afaik they also recommend a GPU with 4 GB while obviously 6 GB would be even better. To the OP: you would only need to uninstall v2 in order to release the activation. If you are going straight to v3 this isn't needed because it's a completely seperate program with its own serial and activation. Take note though that if you would want to reinstall v2 in the future and you haven't uninstalled it, you will have to mail LM for activation which may take a few days.
October 11, 201510 yr At some point when DX12 is introduced into the constantly-evolving P3D engine, W10 is going to be a requirement. Now, isn't it. The problems won't come from a barebones installation of P3D V3 on a fresh copy of Windows 10. The problems come from all the other stuff that isn't compatible - hardware, software, addons, developer support etc. etc. While L-M acknowledge Win 10, they still continue to recommend Win7 64-bit for V3.
October 11, 201510 yr Again, all of my sims ( present and past ) worked beautifully when I migrated to Win 10 Pro 64. October 11, 201510 yr Author Ok it was a long night here in NY, i installed win 10 64bit and P3d ver 3 after a slight hiccup all is working the first install was not rendering correctly i did a repair the install and all was good. FSUIPC gave me some errors but seems to be installed now. How do i bring over my settings from the other install i don't want to go through all the work to set all the buttons and switches? Rex soft clouds installed no problem no tricks and ASN seems to be up and running. the big fear for me is my beloved and Ezdok i think i will have to buy a second licence as i dont want to mess with the one in ver 2.5 as it took me months to get it running perfect with allot of help from Semperfi over in the forum,http://www.simforums.com/forums/ezca-1185-beta-available-for-download_topic51089_page15.html sad that i have to spend the money on that just because the software has not been updated and takes some patience to get set up. I am very new to all this and slowly getting up to speed. Side note I74790 OC to 4.6 stable EVGA 980 SC with most of the sliders on high i am getting around 40 FPS flying in NYC I must say this sim looks great so far with a few hours in. October 11, 201510 yr Isummer, It's sure a pain redoing controller assignments. I use FSUIPC for my controller assignments, so this may or may not work, although I don't think it will hurt anything. P3D doesn't mess with windows controller data. It just reads it: -in the folder c:\users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\Controls, there are as many as two files. Standard.xml and Standard.xmlx. Those files contain your controller assignments and will exist in P3D 2 and 3. You could try copying the Standard.xml over from 2 to 3. At the same time delete Standard.xmlx in P3D 3. I'm thinking that file is used to recreate Standard.xml, if it is deleted. I also believe, but I'm not sure that that file is responsible for unwelcome controller assignments popping up in P3D controls options. I've deleted that file (Standard.xmlx) in the past without issue. Make a copy before you delete it. Make a copy of the original Standard.xml before you overwrite it, in case P3D gets unhappy. If it works as I hope, you will have the same controller assignments in 3 as you did n 2. Sometimes I wonder if part of what attracts us to simulators is it satisfies our inherent need to fix stuff Regards, Graham Derreck CYMM
