Active Sky Next

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I currently have REX Essentials + Overdrive which I have had now for several years. I think this is a great product and looks incredible, but I do sometimes find the weather engine a bit frustrating, particularly with regard to the Wind Shift at high altitude which has been a MSFS engine issue for a long time. I have a registered copy of FSUIPC configured to correct this, which does do a reasonable job but I still can't completely eliminate them.

I'm therefore looking to improve the weather depiction in the sim, and I've always read glowing reviews of Active Sky products. ASN is currently on sale on Simmarket (until tomorrow) and I'm tempted to pick this up. I will continue to use REX textures with it.

What are people's views on this product? Do you recommend, what is the performance hit like and does it play well with REX textures, and most importantly, does it fix the wind shift issue?

Thanks!

IMO it is, simply put, the best available weather engine for FSX, FSX:SE and P3D ...

ASN is in continuous update, with new features being released or details being fine tuned.

It's performance impact is minimal, even on my old system.

Presently I am using it only with P3D3, and the PMDG 777 ( my only add-ons for that platform ), and specially now that Autumn weather becomes playing it's tricks around Europe, it's great to fly to airports under significant weather.

The way ASN blends it's own model data with the observation ( METAR / SPECI / AIREP... ) data is superb!

IMO, you can't really go wrong with it :-)

Ah - used ASN extensively with FSX.SE before migrating to P3D3. And, also using REX Soft Clouds.

I've used Active Sky since it was developed. It was the product to have back in FS9. I don't think any other Wx engine has come close to it.

I just started simming again with FSX:SE and made ASN an essential purchase. I changed a few settings to tame the winds and that's about it. I haven't really explored the entire program.

I have made a few flights with it using REX textures, RealAir Duke V2 and Flight one GTN750. No performance hit at all. Solid frame rates.

It's on sale, so go for it. I don't see how you couldn't like it.

You won't regret it.  I use ASN with REX Essentials + Overdrive.  No problems, no performance issues.
