How does the DF Baron compares to the default Baron ?

Featured Replies

>quite easy to fly by hand or with the autopilot.>That's what I think about the B200. But maybe the Baron has an advantage because it's more difficult to simulate turboprops in FS9.>Both aircraft have excellent flight models, but I judge the>Baron's to be the most realistic. I also really like the>Baron's ability to turn the VC (and other options) on or off>in mid-flight to improve frame rates - handy if you encounter>heavy clouds enroute.>How does this help? Usually you switch the VC in and out be changing view. Why not just avoid switching to the VC? If you make it unavailable in flight won't you get fragmented memory. How much can this improve performence?

Geoff and All,even though I never got to finish my multi, the DF Baron is simply stunning!!! I just can't believe the products Dreamfleet puts on the market....are these people without fault ?! ;-)Every release seems to be a finished product, no flaws, fantastic FDE great pricing and packaging with RXP. Hats off, I'm a Director in the Health Care sector managing many many people, if I had employees only half as dedicated as the DF staff the company I work for would be as big as Microsoft ;-)I downloaded is as soon as it came out but didn't have time to install. But today, weekend is here, wife is asleep, and both my wallet and wife are happy Dreamfleet made possible what I couldn't finish IRL. Thanks Dreamfleet for another, yes another perfect product! Now I'll have to take her to the airport where I earned my wings KSFB and fly a very short hop to KLEE, maybe even Orlando Country (if landing distance permits ;-) )Just my 2 cents,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAMD64-3400,1GB/2700DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.71.89), CH Yoke/Pedals

I'm a single engine, 5 instrument scan type of simmer, so this was not even on my radar. But I have been wanting to get into more advanced avionics, so thought the Baron was a good opportunity. I must say I am now enraptured. This is a great plane, and is all I have been flying since I downloaded. so many little touched that add to immersion, and a great flight model as well.Geofa: If you have some time, could you please post some landing tips, or your landing instructions from the real plane? It would be a great help for those of us new to the Baron. Thanks

>Not to highjack the thread, but I am curious... If anyone>has the Aeroworx B200, how would you compare this plane to the>DF Baron... Flight model, VC, etc...>>I'm trying to decide which one to get... Please only reply if>you own both planes. Thanks.Generally speaking, both are excellent aircraft in my opinion. Both have wonderful graphics, flight models, features, sense of realism etc. They hand fly great and are very stable. If you're choosing one over the other, it boils down to what type of aircraft your looking for. The B200 has the greater speed and range. More specifically, here are some differences as it relates to MY computer and overall performance: 1) I found that the B200's VC loads faster than the Baron. 2) When retofitting my RXP GNS530 to the B200, I get substantially reduced performance. It's really bad if I'm flying in heavy clouds, but it's only with the 530, for I find no performance hits with just the RXP Sandel 3308 installed. I went back to the original panel config anyway on my B200 to maximize performance, and it runs great.I bought the Baron Light with the intention of retrofitting my RXP gauges. I did a couple of flights without the gauges, and then with both the 530 and the Sandel 3308 installed. No real performance degradation to speak of.I enjoy flying both aircraft, but I'll probably end up flying the Baron more due to fact that I can use the GNS530. It's nice to have both aircraft though, and I think they are both reasonably priced. The only other aircraft that I fly is the PMDG 737NG-700, which I fly rarely. Hope this helps,Lawrie

It would be a great help for those of us new to the>Baron. That would be great. As I've experienced with the Aeroworx B200, you can go by the POH and performance charts, but real B200 pilots have their own proceedural methods that are done within the safety limits of the aircraft and the POH. I would love to have short, point by point proceedures list from an experienced Baron 58 pilot touching all aspects of a flight.Lawrie

I usually start pulling the manifold power back by 1" so if vfr I am at about 16-18"-if ifr on the downwind 19-20" (leave the prop at 23 or 2400). 10 degrees approach flaps just outside the downwind area or towards end of downwind on an approach. Gear down opposite numbers on vfr, or gear down at outer marker on instrument approach. Basically I try to stay at 110 knts until final-full flaps, throttles full on final approach-slow it down gradually to blue line near the runway and 90 when starting the flare. I fly b B55 so I think my numbers are about 5 knts. slower but it seems to work ok with the b58.Hope that helpshttp://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

Thanks Geofa!

I'm kinda having problems with my non lite baron. I cant get the mags to turn. I get the plus sign on the hand but it moves negative and I cant get the negative sign on the hand so I cant get the mags on.Also I brought it mainly for the night lighting and I cant get just the guage lights on without the panel being lite. the only way to do that is by having the battery off. But when I turn on the panel lights the panel goes to super bright and off its just lit.I'm going fro ma 2d panel cold start of a created new flight.Any ideas?Kilstorm

I own both (and a couple of other payware aircraft). I have about 2 dozen B200 flights under the belt and just finished my 8th Baron flight. They are both FANTASTIC. But different. The B200 is high and fast and I find that it is a must to use the Autopilot. I can fly published GPS/ILS approaches readily with the B200 but it is a lot a bird for dropping in over a hill on a small GA airport and flying a pattern. Still, it gives one goosebumps to light those engines, taxi past the big boys, and fly somewhere. It is an unforgiving aircraft (Hot starts, taxiing, etc.) and is a good aircraft for the POH-minded who like detail and following checklists browsing performance charts (doesn't everyone?). Plus, they have really great tutorial flights that lay things out step by step, and their web site is great with contributions and active involvement from the pilot of the RW model used in medical evac operations (he posts RW shots and flight plans). I retrofitted the Reality XP 530 but just too hard on the frames so went back to default. Taxiing is a challenge. The Baron is also a dream. I can get in the air in less time (shorter checklist; less wife nagging), get around a tight airport, and fly it anywhere. I seldom touch the AP. One of my benchmarks is how easily I can fly a right hand pattern at Tahoe Valley RWY 36 (FS Genesis 38,2 mesh). B200 is frustrating. Baron really fun. I fly low and slow mostly so I seldom take the B200 over 10k/250kts and in this sense the Baron can almost keep up with it. However I intend to do more cross country and the B200 will have an advantage there. I had to disable the VC in the Baron as the framerates were too low. But I don't miss it as the visbility is good. B200 POH is much better and, as I said, has the advantage of great tutorials and the ability to ask the developers and actual pilots questions readily and informally. Own them both...life is short

Just got the Baron over the weekend and only have about 2 hours total in it. However, I'm very impressed. My first flight in any new plane is to put it through steep turns, clean and dirty stalls, and then I also try a spin. The DF Baron is wonderful in all flight model aspects. The panels are very good, and I had no real issues with the VC (haven't tried it with some major overcast, but I do have traffic at 100% and the frame rates were still very good). I now have 3 GA aircraft I really like: DF Baron, Aeroworx King Air, and the AeroCommander. For the person having trouble turning the swtiches to start the engines: make sure you have gone to the CC and removed the tiedowns, replaced the fuel caps, and put the pilot in the plane ;-) The switches will work then. Mike

thanks mike. any idea about the night lighting?Kilstorm

I'll try and check that (Panel lighting) out in the next few days. My first flights are always done under more ideal conditions until I get use to the plane. Mike
