Hi  Elaine, it's the second one, it gets ready to install the program and say it can't find fsx.exe which I can see in the main P3D ver 3 directory.

Thanks

can't find fsx.exe

Are you sure you have this in your Prepar3D folder ?  a Prepar3D.exe and a copy of Prepar3D.exe remaining it to FSX.exe ( Instructions on this on page 1 )

I have exactly what you have pictured in the above message

Nelson

I would like to attach a photo of my P3D dir but can't seem to attach the file

Nelson

The message actually reads:

Installation aborted

Path to FSX invalid

or words to that effect

Nelson

Hi Elaine. what does this statement mean"

Please Note,  You will have to Leave the fsx.cfg (Copy) in your Prepar3D folder as the Control panel will Not work without it.

Hello Nelson,

I would like to attach a photo of my P3D dir but can't seem to attach the file

There is 2 methods in this Thread to posting a screen shot,  The first one includes taking a shot with your Snipping tool and uploading it to Avsim and the second (At the bottom)  Is shorter in description which you might also find very useful

http://www.avsim.com/topic/479802-how-do-i-post-a-screenshot/

Installation aborted

Path to FSX invalid

That's strange alright,  The Installer should run Ok when you have the fsx.exe in your Prepar3D folder.

Once you are sure that your Prepar3D folder has the 2 .exe in it and your fsx.exe is spellt  correctly including the dot  "."  Please read on...............

Process of elimination

(1) When you extracted the Installer the first time, The Installer Saved itself in your C Drive in a folder called Flight One Software  "UT2_Setup-2.09.exe"  Have a peep there and make sure you can find it  (Don't run it yet though)

(2)  This could be a permissions thing,  What folder do you have Prepar3D Installed, If you have Installed into Program Files (x86) ? Read on, If not skip this bit.    You need to go there and give this folder the proper Permissions.

Go to the Lockheed Martin folder at this location,  Right Click on it,  Click into Properties, Click into security,  Click into Advanced Click into Owner  You will see at the top  Who is the owner ?  It might say system It should say You administrator.

Windows 8/10  Click Change,  Click advanced,  Click Find now   Navigate through the list and double click your  "name\administrator"   Click Ok,  Tick the box  Replace owner and subcontainers and objects  Click apply

Windows 7  Click Edit   Click your "name\administrator"  Tick the box  Replace owner and subcontainers and objects  Click apply

(3) Have you Disable your uac User Account Control ?   Type uac into your Search bar,  Drag down to Never notify and Click Ok.

(4) Have you Disabled your Anti virus Software OR added the UT2 Installer to your Exclusions or Trusted Zone ?   Do you have Windows 10 ?  Make sure you completely Disable Windows Defender

After you confirm this

Go to your Flight One Software folder in your C Drive,  Right Click on  UT2_Setup-2.09.exe  and Run as administrator.  Try that and come back to me

===============================

I will come back to this when you get the Installer running and UT2 Installed

Sorry Elaine no go. Followed your instructions and it still says it can't find the path to the fsx.exe file. Don't know what wrong, everything is where it should as far as I can tell. My version UT is 2.04

My version UT is 2.04

Ah right,  This is the DVD Version ?   If not and this is the download Version,  Can you download the Updated Version 2.09 from the flight 1 store  http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=ut2   Or is it a separate Purchase to Update to this Version?

Are you on Windows 10?   Regarding UT2 Windows 10 can be tricky at the best of time.

He should not have to download version 2.09, Elaine. I use the DVD version 2.04, and it works fine on my PC in P3D v3.3.5.

Yes its a strange one alright Chris why the Installer cant see the fsx.exe in the folder.

Chris, What Operating System are you running ?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. It's also worth noting that I have P3D installed in the default Program Files (x86) folder. Yes, I know you suggested that I shouldn't, but I have never had any problems in the past, and I don't appear to be having any problems now

A real man eh

Yes Chris,  your opinion on this subject has been well stated,  and of course i will give you the same answer i did the last time you popped your annoying little head up on this  :Tounge:

In my opinion......

When you run into problems with your Sim with errors and so on and then try to diagnose the fault,  its down to a "process of elimination"   Its better to Never Install anything into Program Files (x86) this way you can eliminate this from your investigations

Don't get me wrong, 1000's of Simmers and auld hardcore heads like yourself Install into Program Files (x86) and never have problems but its best advice for a Newby or Beginner not to Install to this Location

OK redownloaded the file from flight i again and it says ver 2.09 SP2. Will try it all again and let you know. Thanks to all

I have 1 more Idea     That will work alright but requires some Labour

Ok you have 2 Choices..........

(1)  Purchase and Install MyTraffic 6 which is fully compatible with Prepar3D V3 and very straight forward to Install,  Works like a charm

(2) Or create an FSX Path to Prepar3D in your Register editor   The UT2 Installer will then see your Prepar3D folder as FSX and Install there.  This Option is for advanced Users and should not be taken on if your not comfortable fiddling in your Register editor

Please Note:  Do not try this if you have FSX currently Installed.

===========================

First pop an fsx.exe and a fs9.exe in your main Prepar3D folder  (Instructions are on page 1 for this)

The result will be this

25572994393_89a30a56f1_o.png

Adding an FSX Path to Prepar3D in your Registry editor

First,  I will navigate to  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE \ Wow6432Node \ Microsoft.    I will add 1 Key  Microsoft Games  and 2 Sub Keys Flight Simulator  and 10.0

String Value: SetupPath   Value data:  Your Install Path

Second,  I will Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft.   Again, I will add 1 Key  Microsoft Games  and 2 Sub Keys  Flight Simulator  and  10.0

String Value: AppPath   Value data:  Your Install Path

To access your Registry editor,  Type regedit into your Run search bar,  Click Ok

26083185092_c08f7f61af_o.png

This is your Registry editor.  I will start with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

25902786030_29895b4849_o.png

Follow the Path down by Clicking the little white arrows or the keys  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE \ Wow6432Node Microsoft.    Highlight the Microsoft Key

2  Be sure you have Highlighted the Microsoft Key by left Clicking it. Click Edit  Click New Click Key.  3 Your New Key will pop down at the bottom of the Microsoft List.

26109304171_49c8d5e6db_o.png

Right Click on your New Key and Rename it to Exactly Microsoft Games.   2 Right Click on Microsoft Games, Click New and Key.  3 and 4 Follow the same Steps as before and Rename your New Key to  Flight Simulator and  10.0

26083187032_03376fce7f_o.png

25902791450_4ef3c21047_o.png

1 Right Click on 10.0,  Click New,  Click String Value.   2 Type SetupPath exactly like that in New Value#1  3 The Result.  Please read the big Red bold Tex :)

25573006123_5dbaf43e6b_o.png

1 Right Click on SetupPath  Click Modify  Enter Your Prepar3D Install location,  As you can see i have Installed Prepar3D on my G Drive,  So My Value data is G:\Prepar3D v3\   2 The Result.   Again please read the Red bold Tex

25570883964_61edbd6339_o.png

Ok perfect, we have now completed the first Key.

Second, we will now configure HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Follow the EXACT same procedure as above.  1 Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft,  Highlight the Microsoft and create 1 Key  Microsoft Games  and 2 Sub Keys  Flight Simulator  and  10.0

Like i said,  just follow the same procedure but with this path.   2 Right Click on 10.0   Click New,  Click String Value.   3  Enter AppPath into New Value#1.   4 Enter Your Prepar3D install Location into Value data

26109303671_96b7a3ebfb_o.png

Ok we are now finished in the Registry editor

As you can see i have now set up the Initial Install path from a Fake FSX to Prepar3D

1  HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft  AppPath     2  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE Wow6432Node \ Microsoft   SetupPath

26175656235_cdba087b2d_o.png

When you are finished leave the Registry editor nice and Neat just like you found it.  X of of it

25903010690_dd87571b63_o.png

=============================================

After that, Just follow the same Procedure on page 1 and insure you follow all the security checks,  UAC,  Administrator,  Antivirus Software and so on and so forth.  Now Install UT2 and the Installer Should Automatically pick up on your Prepar3D folder

Please Note:   Its highly recommended to remove these keys when finished

Elaine,

You should get paid for the 'above and beyond' effort you put into (trying to) helping us.
