X-plane is very jerky (Windows 10 and driver issues)

Recommended Posts

I was making a flight towards Portland Airport when I was cursed with an fps drop to 1 digit which didn't go away so I had to exit the sim. I was already an hour and a half into my flight. There was another windows update which failed to address this issue :(

I installed Windows 8.1 again and everything is back to normal

Good luck to those who persevere with Windows 10

Some users of X-Plane and some other apps, incl. me, have reported these issues to Microsoft's John Wink a few weeks ago via Twitter; his last update on this topic was on September 28th:

Fix coming from NVIDIA, let me see about AMD.

So they are still working on it.

That's good to hear. I was thinking on reverting back to windows 7, but I honestly don't want to be bothered with reinstalling all the crap I use.

I think the best move would be to Linux or OSX... Any flavour of MSW will be doomed to suffer from the "updatetytis" sindrome.... But how would I be able to run my other sims without it ?

I reverted back to W10 build 1507 via the update menu.  It was very quick and easy and now all is well.  I am assuming this is what people are doing for the time being?

I just uninstalled the updates and disabled the Windows Update service.

Hello, Well, as of today, I'm still getting the huge drop-off in fps after X Plane has started.

It now is happening at any time:  Alt+Tabing,  changing a setting on the AutoPilot,  changing weather,  u name it.

Are we still waiting on Microsoft for a fix of the OpenGL thing as well as a new driver from NVIDIA....?

Well, a new driver was released today but it doesn't seem to mention anything about the OpenGL issue.

If anyone's up for giving it a shot; http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/geforce-373-06-whql-driver-download.html

Guy's,

I haven't upgraded to the latest Nvidia driver release, but at home I never experienced this problem, while in another rig and laptop, with the exact same version of OS, it happens all of tghe time.

Video cards are similar ( GTX 969 at home, GTX 690 in the other PC ).

The only difference that came to my mind when I read a post by Rob regarding SLI problems with the latest Nvidia drivers was that it could be due to Defender ?  I have added to the exclusion list the whole flight simulators disk as well as any folders under the system partition that are related to flightsim stuff. Might Defender be the culprit ?

No. I always have had my X-Plane folder excluded in Defender.

This needs more testing, but i've installed 373.06 and re-installed Anniversary Bugdate (KB3194496) and ... so far so good.

Radek

Hello, Well, with Win10 V1607 Build 14393-222 and up to date, installed NVIDIA driver 373.06 last night. Took a flight this am and did everything I could to crash the fps. Lots of Alt+Tabing, couple of programs open in the background and my 'reminders' program poping up intermittently. Maintained a decent fps rate for my system without that large reduction in fps. 2-hr flight, Alabeo Cessna C207, some clouds with bouncing around. KPCZ to KMSP.

So, I'm ready to test it again to see if this just was a fluke or not. Good Luck to me. A?

So, After many flights, I am ready to say that the fix for my computer came by way of the NVIDIA driver 373.06.

But, today 10/11/16 there is a Microsoft Win10 Cumulative Update KB3194798 that will be installed and I am skeptical about it messing things up again.

Keep our fingers crossed.

Yes, apparently latest build of Nvidia drivers solved thge problem for me too, at least when I last tried it a week ago when they were released.

The latest windows update didn't fix the problem, but the nvidea driver update seems to have solved it for me as well.
