[XP11] GA plane advice

Featured Replies

Have you tried "dragging" the hand brake instead of just clicking on it?  In the Traveler, you have to "drag" it to release sort of like the throttle, not just click it.

Haven't flown the Arrow, but just a quick thought.  Good luck!

Yes, tried that, doesn't work. I do see now that when I use the toe brakes on my rudderpedals, the toe brakes move in the VC and the handbrake is released... but when I let go of the brakes, the handbrake is on again. In short: the handbrake moves together with the toe brakes!

Another little disappointment btw: I see performance goes down around 20% to 25%. I do use high settings but they are just okay for the default Cessna: that one gives me mid twenties fps where I am standing now) but when I load the Arrow it drops below 20 and things also get obviously choppy when looking around. I suppose this was to be expected with an addon plane but I also suppose this is because XP11 hasn't been optimized yet. Hm... maybe I should have waited a bit longer after all before making my purchase, until XP11 was out of beta, the plane had been updated and maybe even until I had bought a new PC.

This thread is getting longer, so forgive me if some of this has been answered..

I too am searching for a few GA good aircraft.. particularly ones that are modeled well compared to real life, in physics and design (Ala A2A / accufeel etc).. I also have the headshake plugin installed with XP11 beta 3 to try to boost things a bit..

So in terms of realism.. can anyone summarize maybe the top 3 planes that compare closely to real life experiences, either by first hand or from what others that have first hand experience have said?  I also like A2A style "hangers" and inspection /tweaking ability.. so airfoillabs comes to mind..

(its a shame we cant modify old initial posts, so we could have a summary of things for people not wanting to parse an entire thread for specifics.. ie: a table of links and mentions on realism etc too)

I was figuring on these two..

Airfoil labs c172 (free upgrade to xp11 version when available, verified by asking them)

Piper PA28 arrow (i think mentioned in this thread), how closely matches reality though?

Others mentioned the carenado A36.. but the reviews seemed sketchy on that one (though maybe im looking at the wrong reviews for the wrong version)?

That said.. i just purchased the ...

Carenado TBM850 and its pretty solid, though i may have an issue with the motor shutting off in XP or maybe its hyper realistic (i have both the P3D and XP versions)

Also.. what about an SR22 version that is good.. i'm definitely seeing mixed reviews on the Carenado take on the Cirrus..

Asus Strix z790-e; 1000 watt evga SuperNova Plat; 14900k AC_LL 0.55 adp -0.050 253/253/355 CEPoff (CB-1pass 39200 80c, msfs peak 92,avg 60-78c, astrorender 95c,room76F); 64GB(dual 32) cl32 6400 at 6400 xmpII F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RK, Asus Ryuo III 360mm; Thermaltake v51 Case; Gigabyte 4090 OC; VR-Crystal; Dofreality H6; Astrosite

Check out these guys if you want what is a fantastic and realistic experience with GA planes:

https://www.simcoders.com/

They make add ons for the great looking but simple feature wise Carenado planes that adds a lot of great features.  Basically, think of it as an "accu-sim" pack for an A2A plane for FSX/P3D.

Highly recommend these guys.  I've got the B58 Baron REP and the C210T REP.  Love them both, and are my go to GA planes.

This is exactly why I still stick with XP10.51.   Performance is significantly better than XP11 with most of the features already included, and all add ons work properly.  Once XP11 is finalized, I'm sure it will be great, but for anyone that bought 11 it already includes a key for 10.

With Mesh HD 3 etc, it's even the same scenery.  I am getting 50+ fps in the FF 757v2 with all the bells and whistles, scenery, xenviro etc.  Any who, just my $.02, I know most are on the 11 train.

Nice! thanks for that.. i guess ill need to add the c210 to my list of GA to get plus the REP pack for a total of around $50  Appears they support 4-5 different planes as of now

Slightly offtopic.. but can anyone comment on how the GA craft perform compared to real life in Xplane vs P3D v3.x?  I have both the TBM850s for each sim, hoping to compare the physics of both, but i dont have a reality gauge to know for sure.

Another little disappointment

Jan, could you please copy this and the previous comment in our forums?

http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/forum/209-vflyteair/

I'll come back to you there!

I don't want to make this thread to become a vFlyteAir support thread, and I'd like to have all issues at the same place, so other users can also chime in.

Thanks!

Good plan! And done. That's a better place for this indeed.

To be quite honest, there is nothing that incorporates A2A-like hangar features in X-Plane so far. For XP10, the Simcoders expansion packs comes very close, but the implementation is not quite the same as A2A, in my opinion.

I'd love a decent 'ownership' simulation in X-Plane, something along the lines of the Aerosoft/Marcel Felde 4X DA20 - to me, that one tops even A2A, and it's likely going to be one of the sole reasons why I keep FSX and/or P3D installed for a long time to come.

There are indeed choices of aircraft that incorporate a walkaround, and yet others that give the appearance of deeper simulation, with interactive walkarounds, working fuses & circuit breakers, etc.

I've yet to see any bad reviews of Carenado products in X-Plane. The person that does work on the X-Plane ports is occasionally active on this forum, and knows his stuff pretty darn good - of the several Carenado/Alabeo products I own in X-Plane (the A36 isn't one...) they are nearly all more refined than the original releases they come from.

His name is Dan Klaue and he is very good at what he does. Dan has also released a plane of his own, the Quest Kodiak.

I have several and I like them all -- C208 Caravan, Bonanza F33, Pilatus PC-12.

My only complaint about Carenado is that documentation can be pretty slim. Especially for something with more complex systems like the Pilatus PC-12. There isn't much about the cockpit layout aside from the EFIS and autopilot, so for anything else you have to go to an actual PC-12 manual. And then it can take forever to pore through all that data. I'm still trying to figure out what some of the CAWS warnings are linked to. Not a problem for the simpler planes like the Bonanza, obviously.

Problem: I can't tell yet how it flies because in XP11 the handbrake is stuck and there is no way I can release it. Not by clicking and not by using B or V. So now I am also stuck to the ground. Is this a XP11 problem? I read others are using this plane in XP11 without problems.

Turns out, after a tip from Mario, I had to remove the chocks first...  :fool:  MY BAD. Just did a very (very) short flight with the Arrow and while fps was still a bit bad (probably due to the beta) I did enjoy it a lot: this really is plane with a lot of character! And I love that! Looks great! Landing didn't go too well, at touchdown I immediately turned had right into the grass and I wasn't able to control the plane, but maybe that has to do with the XP ground handling problems. But anyway, great plane with a LOT of options in the VC: don't know if I ever saw so many gauges and dials and what not is a small GA. I will enjoy this one a lot in the future!

Can anyone also recommend a few "freeware" GA that are almost as good as some of these.. I picked up a few carenados + rep and i may grab the 140 as well (both classic and the other).. just wondering if there are any free contenders of any variety?

On the acrobatic side, i saw the avia mentioned in this thread.. are there any others payware / freeware that are "extra 300" acrobat in style and maybe some that can do a spin?   edit: i spotted the  Vertigo here and the sbach 300 here
