January 3, 20179 yr Hi, I want to hear experiences more than "stick to fsx" or "just switch to p3d". I am currently running FSX DX10 and recently entered a debate where I was offered to switch to P3D. My biggest concern is performance. At the bottom of my post you will find my pc specs. I run a lot of addons as well as WOAI traffic for online flying and those must work in p3d in order for me to do the switch. So let me know whether you experience change from FSX, whether recent updates (v3.4) have improved the performance of p3d, do you get a lot of OOMs and issues with stutters. I want to hear it all  Current FSX Performance comparison:FT CYYZ - 10-15FPSFlightBeam KSFOHD - 10-15FPS FSDT Addons - ~17-24FPS FlightBeam - Other airports 17-22FPS My PC:i7 3820 running at 4.8Ghz 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinums Gigabyte GTX 1070 1000W Powersupply (EVGA) Thrustmaster Hotas Konstantin Kharlamov Supporter of: PMDG, FlyTampa, FsDreamTeam, FlightBeam, FSFX.
January 3, 20179 yr P3D is much better in performance. However I can't say if all addons we'll run for you. I think for all are P3D versions, but WOAI I have no clue. You can test P3D for 60 days and install it parallel. January 3, 20179 yr Moderator Your system should run P3D just fine. Just don't try to tweak it to death like FSX. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
January 3, 20179 yr I was wondering about this myself very recently, and I decided to take the plunge on P3D over the Christmas break. For my hardware (i5 2500K overclocked to 4.5ghz, Nvidia 1060, 16GB RAM, running from an SSD) P3D has been a massive improvement. I'm over the moon with it. Orbx Northern California, Vector and Flightbeam KSFO with the Aerosoft Airbus gives me a comfortable 20 FPS ish, going up to 30 (fixed). The built in planes belt along, I get 50-60 FPS if I unlock it with stock. Hope that helps Edit - Also prolly 90% of my add-ons ported over just fine. My most common issue was scenery having P3D compatible installers, but somehow managing to not add to the scenery.cfg correctly. I guess the biggest difference for me is that I don't yet run any AI traffic, that always killed the FPS for me with FSX, and I've not tried it with P3D yet. I'm kinda liking the clear skies atm Guy Webb
January 3, 20179 yr I have the same system (GPU and CPU with exact the same o/c) + 3440x1440 monitor. I am running P3D since v 2.3 or so and now with latest p3Dv3.4 HF2. Never looked back to FSX. Only issue, since 3.4, P3D seems to show a bit more stutters than with former versions 3.2 and 3.3.5 respectively. But I can live with it. Since recently, LM offers all v3 versions for download when you purchase P3dv3. You might want to start with v.3.2 which also behaved well in regard to VAS management. Vic is right, don't tweak too much. I only have added AffintyMask=85. I'd have to repurchase PMDG 777 , P3D and eventually 747. Thats like $700 Canadian dollars. Which is quite a bit..... Konstantin Kharlamov Supporter of: PMDG, FlyTampa, FsDreamTeam, FlightBeam, FSFX.
January 4, 20179 yr Since you are still enjoying your FSX DX10 I'd recommend you hold off getting P3D for a while longer, V3.x is out now for over a year... maybe.... maybe... some new v4 will come out soon.... who knows... than you don't have to buy it again as they do not offer any upgrade pricing. As for your original question I myself have moved to P3d since v2.5 and never looked back. Was using i7-2700K back then with GTX680. From the first time performance was better then FSX, visuals were better.. well IMO everything was better than FSX. Andy Andy Home Cockpit B737
