January 30, 200620 yr Admins/Mods,Can we please merge all the iFly 747-400 threads into one ??? Please.....I found a screeny based review while googling......http://www.fs2004.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65372
March 18, 200620 yr Bill, The attachment seems to have dissapeared. Anyway you could try again or perhaps e-mail it to me? Thanks Craig [email protected]
March 18, 200620 yr The iFLY 744 looks awesome, but it has one spelling mistake:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/145164.jpgDuck Pressure?!?! :-lol Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
July 3, 200619 yr I think the best way to describe IFly 747 great freeware but with quirks. Wait for updates I suppose. I have update 1 .I still cannot find a course selector for the ILS it is static at 340* There are no sids or stars available so to do an auto approach and landing on the FMC is not possible.I have inserted all the Fixes, NDB, and VOR for an approach and tried to do the landing in map mode.I find that although the FMC shows you the Nav aids with the same ID it does not set them up in map mode properly . Any ideas..
July 4, 200619 yr Hello Atkin:You set your course in the CDU. I don't know what the problem is, but once the Autopilot is engaged implementing a flightplan in the CDU she has flown flawlessly for me hands off from takeoff to touchdown including autoland.I haven't tried any flights implementing Sids or Stars with the exception of the ones that came with the download yet, but they worked alright for me. For what it is worth, there was just an upload for a multitude of Sid/Star data on AvSim including a few more liveries. Take a peek at "ifly744_sid_star_rep.zip" (without the quotation marks). I am anxious to try a few of these.Good luck:RTH
July 4, 200619 yr Hi RTH, Thanks for the reply as suspected it is in the CDU only.I wonder is the real 747 like this.I have been using MS flight sim for 9 years.I used Autoland once ! I think with this iFly I will try it out .You ever tried to use the iFly with ATC online .I think to re program the CDU is maybe too time consuming espically close to landing. Now I wish I had the the time to use this iFly or (itFly :D :D ) Bye, Atkin.
July 5, 200619 yr Hello Atkin:Were that I could tell you anything real world about the 747. With the exception of being a passenger I am afraid I am in the dark too.I occasionally use Autoland, the locked on manual autopilot settings until about 200'-400' AGL on approach (Yea, I know that's a bit close), or hand fly the approach. Just whatever strikes one's fancy at the time.Been a while since I was on VatSim. Just downloaded the new SB version so will probably give it a shot soon. To be honest, unless the other end speaks clearly these old ears have trouble understanding what ATC is telling me some of the time and I hate with a passion having to use text. On line I use an aircraft with the capability to snuff the CDU and either hand fly or usually go to manual entries on the Autopilot once ATC Approach intercepts me. I would think real world this is usually what is done anyway.I just tried my first flight (KSFO-KSAN) with the new SIDS/STARs available as mentioned in my previous reply. A bit strange. The aircraft looked like it partially followed the specified departure and approach, but I am not convinced everything is quite right yet. I don't remember any problem with the SID/STAR provisions with the original download. Implementing FSNAV to originate my routing, I chose the EUGENE5 SID with SNS transition from Runway 28L, and Shaumu1 STAR with LAX.SHAMU1 transition, Runway 9 into KSAN. The CDU seems backwards for setup to me. If you choose the runway first, it tells you there are no SIDS. However, if you choose the SID first, then the runway, they both show to be selected in the display. However, the Legs display shows no fixes. In either case, it tells you that no transitions are available. Flying the route with LNAV/VNAV enabled, the bird seems to parallel the FSNAV Star and/or Sid as far as initial fixes are concerned (as shown in the FSNAV setup) but cuts the corners a bit, although they are not displayed in the CDU Legs display. One other item where I had a problem in programming the CDU this time, it would not accept Jetways ("J") although setups some time ago had no problem with these entries. All of this may be because I have forgotten something as it has been a while since I flew the iFly 747, but this was my first result with the new provisions. One improvement I would like on the iFly panel. I wish the CDU could be resized when I move it to a secondary monitor. It unlocks fine, but I cannot change the size. All other secondary unlocked windows have this provision.Happy flying:RTH1585368CFI
July 5, 200619 yr Hello iFly 747-400 Captains:OK, I will be the first dummy to ask:Has anyone been successful in implementing the recently downloaded SIDS and STARS for this aircraft? I don't remember any problem with the ones downloaded with the original aircraft (only one location), but so far I have had a multitude of problems with the recently added ones.I have tried a flight from KFSO to KSAN and from KTPA to KJFK (several times with several method attempts). On the former flight, the bird paralleled the SID and cut corners on the fixes although no fixes were indicated in the CDU. On both the flights, the flight breaks off at the last STAR transition waypoint and FS9 crashes to desktop (Last waypoint shown for the CDU). No fixes show up, nor does any of the approach data show up in the CDU Legs with the exception of the transition waypoint. The flight as far as the CDU is concerned ends there (STAR Transition waypoint) and this is where the CTD takes place. The implementation of the SID/STAR and transition points is inconsistent and confusing in the DEP/ARR options compared to any payware offering I have seen as well. Does this item still need some work, or is it just a short between these old ears? (come on, BE KIND!)If you have been succesful, I sure would appreciate it if you would outline your procedure. If I manually enter all waypoints, including those for SIDS and/or STARS, no problems and everything works great.Thanks:RTH1585368CFI
July 6, 200619 yr Hello all:I need to make a correction to my original statement: When I try to implement the STAR by the DEP/ARR provisions the failure point is not at the CAMRAN4 STAR transition, but at the DPK (Deer Park) VOR. (KTPA-KJFK). This VOR is the only postition that shows up in the CDU past the SIE transition when the STAR provisions of DEP/ARR are used.Sorry for the mistake and if this is confusing:RTH
July 6, 200619 yr Hello I think there are problems with them I tried a EDDF sid to EGBB star last night. the sid worked ok except the altitude limits were 800 ft. and the star was a group of waypoints all linked together but starting and ending at the same point. I think the guy deserves credit for a good try but it is an unusual format and needs some more work. Paul EGLD
July 6, 200619 yr Hello PVE:I agree. I am still trying but have not found quite the right procedure yet. The most frustrating thing to me is that I do not get the same reaction or display at various airports. One thing seems to at least partially work at one, but a different method seems to apply to another.I've tried KTPA-KJFK, KSFO-KSAN, KSFO-KPHX, KDEN-KSEA, KSEA-KDEN, and probably a few more of which I have lost track. What I get for some doesn't match the format for what I get at another even though the SIDS and STARS are listed.Maybe we are getting there though thanks to the effort.Sorry that you too are having problems but I am glad to know about it and that it is not just me. Thanks for the reply.Happy flying:RTH
August 30, 200619 yr I love the panel, not the plane though, I slapped the panel on a POSKY 744 but I have this horrid issue, the LNAV works, BUT as soon as I switch the cmd on my trim gets maxed out either up or down depending on which way I am oriented and it just is a beast to fight, it just controls the trim not the actual elevator so i can still fly but it sends me in to crazy FS loops until I wack the ground.....HELP is much appreciated, Its a beautiful panel.Mike
June 1, 200719 yr Hello. I have the iFly 747, and I have a problem: when using the FMC, in the Perf Init page, it will not allow me to insert gross or zero fuel weight, even though I am formatting the entry properly. Why is it doing this? Thanks.
