FO & PF3

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm a newbie MCE user. Having PF3 and MCE connecterd is really a huge improvement in sim realism. Asking FO to handle com works OK for me; anyway if the ATC message is too long, the FO start to acknowledge before the end of the message. I can't speak to ATC ( after having request "my radio"): FO try to interpret my message to ATC as a demand to him. Is there a summary of how to use properly PF3 with MCE?

Happy flying

  • There will be an update tomorrow. Will be able to ask FO to request a different runway and altitude. Resuming a saved flight should also be possible.

  • Fully functional now. And ignore all the patches. Just grab the latest from the downloads page The next step is to give the option to switch captions OFF and still keep it functional.

  • OK, just to update everyone on this. We are currently revamping the PF3 interfacing. Here is a proposal for what we think is a better implementation. Once update is released, unless you

I also have this problem sometimes. It is because MCE does not know when ATC finishes talking. The correct timing is hard to find for MCE because it also depends on the voice of the PF3 controller. I think they did a good job with the current timing - if it was longer there would be long pauses before the reply in some situations.

If I recall correctly there have been tweakable settings in the MCE.ini file to adjust the timing in the early versions of the PF3 interaction but I am not sure if these are still used in the current version.

Dumb question: Did you configure and press the PTT button? Pressing the PTT button tells MCE that you are talking to ATC, not to the FO.

Thank you for your answer,

Yes I configure and press the PTT for MCE. I'll check if MCE.ini can be tuned.

Anyway MCE+PFE are a great addon

Hi guys

Still pretty new to mce (3 days) and just completed my first full flight with MCE and PF3 and I had a little issue, nothing to major, but wasn't sure if its an MCE or PF3 issue.

I let MCE make the changes to settings, I loaded my flight in PF3 and connected, everything appeared to be fine, I tuned to ground and asked for IFR clearance and the remote text window gave me my instructions and the F/O answered and replied, but there was no Voiced instruction, it was text only?

I have in PF3, Pilots voice - None and Mode 0

in MCE, I have F/O handle radio if busy, although I told him to operate it for now and I have voice turned to 0 in p3d, It was working last night when I was testing it so not sure what changed, I think I did get an update from PF3 just before the flight tho.

I suggest you set "pf3.exe" to run as administrator. That guarantees when it writes to its files, there is no interference from Windows blocking operation and such.

Are you operating with PF3 captions visible inside the sim or without?

Hi, I have captions turned on as suggested. I'll try it again with Admin rights

Hi Guys, could I have some advice regarding MCE and PF3

My F/O keeps answering my radio even though I have unticked “f/o handles radio when busy”, It’s definitely Clives voice and not coming from pf3. I even told him “my radio” but he still replies. Is there something I’m missing that I need to turn off? I would like him to handle it sometimes when I’m busy or take off / landings but not all the time

Sure,

By default, Fo is in charge of ATC, unless you tell him "my radio", "I handle the radio", etc...

The option "Fo may take over radio when busy", when enabled will get Fo to take over ATC once some reasonable time has elapsed and he sees an acknowledgment is due and you haven't yet replied. After that, he's technically in charge of ATC, hence the need to tell him again "my radio" in case you need to handle it.

Please leave PF3 co-pilot mode at setting 0 You don't have to change it at all, as MCE Fo voice is used instead.

Hello, I'm having a problem when using PF3 and MCE together, in that when it's time to contact tower after being handed over from approach, the voice recognition doesn't hear the word tower but instead Saratoga, and I am unable to get any instructions from tower for final, I've tried numerous flights in MSFS now and the result is the same each time.

The flight goes without hitch up until contacting tower, then it's radio silence.

Any ideas anyone please, I'm at my wit's end.

I'm on latest MCE and PF3 is completely up to date.

Regards.

Simon B.

Have you switched to Tower frequency? MCE does not do it automatically in that situation.

Other than that, try to press the hotkeys manually to make sure it is an MCE issue, not a PF3 issue.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Some other weird things are happening now so I'm going to reinstall PF3 see if that helps.

Btw yes I tuned tower manually. If nothing changes after the reinstall I'll have a go at the hot keys and let you know.

Regards.

Hi,

I would like to know how can I get the co-pilot to report my position when in Oceanic control. The co-pilot does the first SelCal communication, but he doesn't report position after cross each oceanic waypoint.

Also my comprehension is that I have to leave PF3 co-pilot mode at setting 0 , and when I tell my co-pilot "you have the radio" MCE will internally set PF3 to co-pilot mode 2. I sometime experience delayed handback to domestic control after oceanic sector , PF3 support tells me to set Co-Pilot mode to 2.

Would MCE work if I set Co-pilot to 2?

No need to fiddle with PF3 FO mode. Leave it off all the time.

It's very likely, MCE wasn't prepared to handle those special instructions PF3 outputs to "Clearance.log". We need to train the FO to recognize them, otherwise he'll assume other traffic is transmitting or something.

Next time you perform a flight across the pond, send "Clearance.log" file to support or post the content of the file here. Thanks

Not necessarily specific to PF3, but it would be great if the FO could wait 5 seconds after a frequency change before contacting the next controller. At the moment, he or she immediatly tries to make contact, but often there is another transmission. I believe in the real world it is also done so. Thanks!
