Scenery Config editor V3 and V4 ?

Featured Replies

I've been using SCE for a long time and I still find it a bit confusing  to use with multiple  sims targets.

As far as I can tell, FTX Central saves the scenery.cfg in UTF-16 text format, whereas P3D v4 uses UTF-8. The latest snapshot of 1.1.8 can handle UTF-8 but not UTF-16.

The correct format for the scenery.cfg in Prepar3d V4 is UTF-16. However, the sim itself will accept any format, even Ansi, so any utility reading it should probably do the same. And any utility *writing* to it, should probably save it back in the default format for each sim, which is UTF16 for Prepar3d 4 and Ansi for P3D 3/FSX

I second what Umberto has said. I was able to load the v4 scenery.cfg once and save it back with SCE 1.1.8 snapshot. The next time I tried opening the scenery.cfg with SCE after I had used FTX Central I got the same error message (structural errors). The v3 scenery.cfg can be opened as usual. There is clearly some incoherence in how the different tools are reading/writing the format of the scenery.cfg.

I'm not sure if the developer of SCE is reading this thread though. Over at sourceforge you have to get registered for yet another forum which I'm hesitant doing. But he said he is working on a final new release which will hopefully iron out the format issue.

Found this free utility to replace the scenery config editor. Works perfect for both v3 and v4. Also supports XML functionality introduced in v3.3. Allows for backup/restore and more .....

Unfortunately SCE 1.19 is still not completely compatible with P3D v4 as it completely ignores any scenery that uses the new (recommended) xml functionality for scenery add-ons e.g. on my setup, all FlightBeam and FSDreamTeam scenery is completely ignored.

"Lorby Prepar3D V4 Addon Organizer" is currently a better bet if using P3D v4.
