Sleeping while flying

I have seen no regulation on VATSIM regarding this. You should not do it in controlled airspace.

But otherwise: I accelerate time on VATSIM whenever I need to. I also do transatlantic flights with 4x time compression. No problems until now.

Agree with Stefan - you can do what you like outside of controlled airspace, as long as it's reasonable and doesn;t interfere with the another person's flight.

..some people switch to external views.....

erm, that would be me. Guilty as charged, Your Honour! I like to look at aeroplanes as well as fly them in the virtual world. I like to see the machine in its environment; watching the light and reflections from the external skin change over time (I do like shadows in the VC too!).

I know one could argue that you can see the outside of the plane by doing a virtual walk around pre-flight, and that when flying in the real world one doesn't get out of the aeroplane, especially when 7 miles up, but it's not the same. I'm thankful the developers (payware and freeware) put a lot of time in making sure the external model is true to life (or as true as they can get it - results do vary! :) )

Incidentally I'll never land one via an external view, but I do use the instant replay function in FSX:SE to see if the tower was laughing or cringing at my approach and landing :D

Interesting discussion!

I sometimes do this at airports while taxing, I can see better where I'm going and during daylight I can get nice views of the airport scenery and what's going on around me.

The Crew Alertness System should take care of that :)

Have you ever noticed that flying for an hour or two and about to land....you hear your name called from the other room...{name}, and some sort of needs and answer question...totally screws up the immersion....yelling back...just a minute I'm in the middle of landing....to which one hears the reply..."pause it, it's just a game".

Yes   I've been there.

And when friends or relatives visit with kids, and the kids want to wrestle control of the aircraft from you!
