I myself have two things that creates some sort of realism for me: I never leave the VC while flying and I like to experience a flight from start to finish. If I don't do this, things don't feel as real as I want them too and it feels like I cheated or wasted my time. I simply don't like to do it differently. Have you ever noticed that flying for an hour or two and about to land....you hear your name called from the other room...{name}, and some sort of needs and answer question...totally screws up the immersion....yelling back...just a minute I'm in the middle of landing....to which one hears the reply..."pause it, it's just a game". Can't say I've ever had it happen, although my parents know not to interrupt me whilst I'm flying. I did, however, have one instance where I was about to taxi out when my mom came running up to my room telling me "Wait, don't take off yet, we need to go buy food." Why I even needed to be there in the first place, I have no idea. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.

Lol It happens to me all the time. I would plan my flights and start them early in the morning before my wife wakes up. It is also why I can't use MCE. The last time I tried to use it after an hour of setting things up, she had to ask me a question and the plane release brakes and plowing trough the room. So I know exactly what you mean. bob

As ever, we all have different ideas about it. I prefer the flight to run in real time, and while i have never gone to sleep and woken up to complete the flight I do understand where they are coming from.

LOL Yes, that kind of stuff happens... Maybe that's also why I keep my flights short. 6 minutes ago, ErichB said: I agree with Werner. Your flight simming reality is whatever you choose it to be. I may not understand what fun people see in doing things in certain ways and it may not be my cup of tea but I won't make fun of it because if that is what they want to do it's perfectly fine with me! As I said, that is the great thing about flightsims!!!
June 19, 20178 yr I never use acceleration, never do, never did. It doesn't matter if the flight is 2, 5, 9 or 18 hours, i plan according to my life (can/cannot do it depending on what i have to do) and fly it in real time. June 19, 20178 yr No one cares about the environment? My primary concern is how much electricity is used up during a long haul. When my computer is running full load, it is drawing 260 watts. If I run for it 10 hours, that's 2600 watt hours or 2.6 kwh and say I do that 4 times a month (weekends) that is 10.4 kwh a month. New Jersey I think it's $.15 per kwh, so $15.60 a month or $186 a year. Not mention the heat it may be putting out so during Summer, it makes the air conditioner work more. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060

June 19, 20178 yr My computer's almost always on regardless. Night time is generally a good time for the computer to perform a virus scan since I'm usually not doing anything that late at night. That said, since I'm running my computer off the back of my truck right now, I don't have to worry about the electric bill since this is a company truck. I always fly full screen, so to be able to minimize the window, i have to switch to windowed mode. There's nothing to configure, by the moment you minimize the window, the GPU goes into minimal power mode and the CPU is barely used (15-20% usually). Once you maximize the window after a few hours, everything will be blurry and rapidly redrawn in just a few seconds. You should not do it in controlled airspace. But otherwise: I accelerate time on VATSIM whenever I need to. I also do transatlantic flights with 4x time compression. No problems until now.
