CS 757 Wind out of my sails

Featured Replies

Man, after looking at the spectacular CS screenshots, I got around to reading the free manuals and I definiately went from elation to sadness very quickly. The manual clearly spells out what will and won't be released as part of the upcoming Q1 Blocks. For Block B the cockpit and VC functionality is pretty much crippled and there is no FMC, VNAV / LNAV, etc! As a matter of fact it looks like part of Block B will be the use of....oh no...the GPS! (OUCH!) The meat and potatos for fully functioning Avionics won't be until the last block is released sometime in Q2 2006 (between April and June) via the "advanced systems programming".Its good to know that CS is moving towards a fully functional 757, but alas, as a hard core simmer I'm saddened to see that beautiful bird won't be soaring to her true potential for quite a few more months. *sigh*

the old saying comes to mind...all show and no go

Well I guess my money is going towards PSS... If I'm understanding you correctly, the CS 757 VC won't be fully interactive for quite some time. What a let down, but hey that's CaptainSim...

If that is the case dont buy it! When it is complete will be the time that I part with my cash.I do not like this idea of partial releases because that tricks you into buying something on a promise and very often promises never materialise.I must say I am dissapointed with this news as I was going to take the step and purchase the 757 especially as CS appeared to have come good with their last military release.I have made it a habit now of not pressing the purchase button on new releases until the first patches have been made. This is partially because I do not have broadband and I dont want a 24 hr download only to do it all again when so called patches come out. Patches used to be patches but now are massive downloads :-(In someways this is a good thing in the sense that it also allows you to guage public reaction to the product as well.No when and if CS release the COMPLETE product will be the time that when and if I buy it.Peter

I wouldn't get too excited about the PSS version if I were you. Not unless they've decided to release a product that actually works properly this time round.

Any Idea when PSS or Level D is to release theirs? We may have 3 fully functional 757 released about the same time. Who knows.

Funny isn't it...... When people announce a product and then take ages to release it people either get impatient or defend to the death their "godlike" plane makers! If someone releases a plane in stages and says that the last stage will be about 2-3 months off people start slagging them off and saying that it's about all you can expect - after all it is Captn Sim.Not everyone needs a fully working all singing all dancing plane. For these people who just need a good model, or a good VC then this *seems* to offer it.Again being able to gradually buy the thing may appeal to those on smaller budgets. $24 here, 9$ there etc may well be easier for some people to afford than $50 all at once.Personally I do not expect to buy this at least until the full package is released because I do want a full FMC package and until the final part is released I do not think I can judge the quality of the plane from the screen shots and videos I have seen so far. However, for some people that may well be fine.Captain Sim may have released planes with bugs in the past - and as no program is bug free, I completely expect there to be bugs in this when it is released. I have bugs in my PMDG737 but I still think it's a great plane. Feelthere's 733/4/5 had bugs in it - I think they have released two patches for it already (although patch 2 was renamed patch 1). Also some of their other stuff was not particularly good (ERJ145 PIC to name one). PSS have had some well documented problems with their T7 etc etc etc.... They all have bugs or have released planes that people have complained about. I don't think that should cloud one's view when they are releasing another one though.I expect that my prefered 757 will be the LevelD as they produced a SDK for their 767 and hopefully will with the 757, and I think this is an important tool if you plan to add any hardware to your FS setup. However, looking at the attention to detail Captain Sim have provided to the visuals or this latest offering I think they should be given the chance to prove if this is a fantastic package or a turkey before people start slagging them off.Of course this is just my opinion - I fully expect to get flamed for it - the FS community is not what it once was after all......RegardsTim

I think you will find that there are many simmers who don't need or want advanced systems simulations. Why should they need to wait for the development of the full product when the simpler package can be made available earlier? Likewise, why should you be under any pressure to buy any parts before the whole is released? Is there nowadays a compulsion to buy on the relase date in the free world? I actually like this blockwise system. I for one would not care to spend money on sounds. High definition sounds slow down my system and there are excellent freeware sounds available for almost any engine type imaginable. I miss the days when PSS offered their products in slices, enabling you to buy *just* the panel, which was usually the only interesting part of their products anyway, at a far more reasonable price than the whole package, parts of which you would discard soon anyway in favor of better models from POSKY, IFDG or the like.

Looking at the detailing, maybe you keep buying blocks until your computer starts smoking!I think betreen now and FSX, you are going to see every and anything in various stages of completion being sold.Is releasing a product in pieces as its being developed looking after the customer or a way of keeping the cash flowing during development?Maybe both? Looking at past CS marketing and customer tactics nothing would surprise me. All I can say for sure is they will not be using paypal. Ha

We piece their Block A through E all together we get an "opensky 757 second generation" kind of aircraft. Model, VC, FM & sound. After having to pay for different variants of an aircraft model in the market these days (which I am ok with as long as it's an excellent product), now I have to wait and pay for each individual piece of one aircraft? Forget it. Jason

This is a no brainer -> LDS + Patience = Guaranteed 757 Flight Sim bliss!Cheers,(SONIC) BooneCurrently saving pennies for a new pooter for FSX (don't tell the misses!)

Hi,I agree, whith the three companies developing 757's, the only company who has NOT let me down is the LDS team. I am waiting for the LDS757!!!.

Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings

                Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME                    One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck

Yes, at least LDS will release the complete package, inevitabley it will need a patch or update but that I can handle. IMHO the concept of buying bits and pieces makes no sense to me. Good luck CS.cheersGreghttp://www.fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg
