Gear pins annoyance

On my PC I always have to install and stow the gear pins before a flight otherwise I won't be able to retract gear. Is anyone here having the same problem? So even when you can SEE the pins are stowed in the VC and even when the option in the FMS show 'Install' (which means they are stowed) it is mandatory for me to install and stow them. Every time. I just wasted half an hour because of this because I forgot to do this. And landing the plane, shutting the engine down and opening the door to stow the pin doesn't help either: the only way to get this working again is to restart the entire sim. Very annoying.

Well, the behavior that I see is different. At start up C&D the gearpins are at random installed. So sometimes they are and (mostly) they are not. When the pins are in the bag I am always able to retract  the gear. When the gearpins are installed I can stow them via the FMS option provided the engines are shutdown en the main door is open. No need to restart  the sim for me.

Maybe your start scenario is corrupt ?

I make a camera with ezdoc on the gear, so before closing the front door, I make a visual verification of the state of the pins, never problem with this visual method.

A second method is looking inside the floortrap on the back of the seats if the pins are there.

You can add or remove the gearpins just with a click on the bag behind the seats...If the gearpins are in the bag you are good to go/fly.

I know, but even if I can see those red things hanging out of the bag I cannot retract the gear unless I first install and then immediately stow them (before engine start and so on). It simply is annoying having to do that everytime, even when it shouldn't be necessary.

Well, I reinstalled my PC last weekend from scratch and still have this problem. I do have to say though that I did edit the script I use to make it more like I think it should be... I didn't edit anything that has to do with the pins though. Just a few settings of knobs and switches. But maybe I should see what happens if I use the original script. (Although it's not exactly fun trying that...)

I have had this happen once on the new x64 version. Gear wouldn’t retract. Thought straight away, “must have left the pins engaged” but turned around and saw the red tags hanging out of the bag. Put it down to a glitch and haven’t seen it since but to be honest, with the holiday etc, haven’t flown it much either.

From memory I don't need to do what you describe...I will test.

I've had this exact same problem happen a few times.  It's definitely a bug and it's a bit annoying.

Ok, good to know I am not the only one. I will report it to Majestic.

This could very well be a bug, however, it is happening to a small number (under 5 persons - at least who have reported on the Official MJC website) of folks and not knowing the exact conditions under which this is happening may be difficult to replicate, especially if you are unable to force this behavior.  Also, your method of ensuring that the pins are stowed seems a bit odd, as one should not have to perform the task via the FMS and SITU bag.  If you are able to replicate the issue kindly provide us with the specific steps to trigger this behaviour or if possible a brief video recording of this.

Out of curiosity, could you be by chance opening the alternate gear release door above the FO's head?  Because if that door remains open the gear will not retract.

Glenn, in an earlier thread, mentioned that it happened to him as well, but had not seen it since.

For who is interested: for now I solved this issue by adding this line to the cold&dark script:

		COPY #FlightControls_->gearPinsInstalled 0	; stow gear pins

This will stow the pins automatically every time you load the plane with the cold and dark state. At least so far it did. If it ever happens again, even with this line in the script, I will report back.

I had a similar problem recently. Took off and couldn't retract the gear even though the gear pins showed up in the bag. Strange thing was that I couldn't even move the gear handle. And it was not locked with the pin next to it. Does the gear handle still move on your end or is it a similar problem on your system?

I think it is similar: you won't be able to move the gear handle at all when the pins are (really or not) installed.

My gear lever wouldn't move either.  It sounds like we're all experiencing the same issue.

I will try to pay more attention to my scenario to hopefully provide more info about how to reproduce it.  For me, it seems to be random.  Random bugs are always fun, aren't they?

Cheers,

Tom

Well, since editing my script I never had the problem again... so if you have this big more often you might want to edit your cold&dark script also!
