REX SF3D + HiFi ASP4 - Experience

Featured Replies

Maybe HiFi will implement their own 3D cloud models, or whatever it is that SF apparently does, so that ASP5 will raise the bar.   SF seems to not be living up to the marketing hype.

I think ASCA already did that

True. How many times are people raise the notion of 3D cloud models when no add-on does this? ASCA, RSF and even the default sim all display clouds in the same manner. The only differences are:

1. The realism of the photos used to create the 2D textures that are used.

2. The complexity of the layering of the 2D  texture planes.

3. The resolution of the 2D textures.

I hear what is being said here.... namely that Rex textures with AS weather engine seems to be the best and most realistic way to go.

I have just invested in a new pretty capable computer, and a host of new software to go with P3D4, and am approaching my spend limit. I would rather only have to purchase one weather package at this stage..... and in view of the fact that Rex's SF3D weather engine seems to get a poorish wrap, and ASC4's appears superior,    I'm leaning towards the latter.  Even if I have to augment it with the ASC Art package, the combined package would still be the same order of expense as Rex's SF3D, and I would have a weather ENGINE that works well, which is important to me.

Does this sound sensible, or would it leave me with 2nd rate visuals ???.... Cheers, and thanks in advance for any responses....Tom.

I wouldn’t purchase REX SF until the publish hotfix 2 and we give that a go. That was announced over two weeks ago and nothing from the team in regards to the progress. I think AS is far superior to REX wx engine. AS weather injections are by far much smoother over time and spinning clouds are far less noticeable. If you are really wanting a weather engine soon, go with ActiveSky but I’m betting we see a new version of AS by summer.

If WEATHER is important to you, Active Sky is the one to get. Period.
