  1. The video should talk about it. They interview MeteoBlue and how they basically divide the world up into blocks and that is how they build clouds and atmosphere off it. Its a good video to watch, though I wish we still had the same quality and visuals they talk about in the sim...
  2. I think this is fairly still on point, though most of the time, the current sim does not feel like what is portrayed in the sim from that video. Graphics have had a pretty significant downgrade in my opinion as well as 'live weather'. Even though I know the team deems live weather as real weather, I see live weather more as it is living and not stagnant. There are aspects of live weather that is actually correct, but it seems more times than not, it is not completely accurate. There are some expected big changes by the end of the year into 2022, but as of right now, they are still using MeteoBlue for injecting weather data.
  3. This should answer most of your questions I think.
  4. Indexer must not have run correctly the first time. Reran it this morning and so far it seems to work just fine in 4.4
  5. I’ve tried several times since 4.4 came out and every time it intializes, I get fatal error right after. Waiting on an update for it to work.
  6. For that price, why not just go get your PPL or more flight time. No GPU needed!
  7. Does your event viewer state what is going or have any errors in there? That may be a clue of what is causing the issue. Last night, the blgmaxn64.dll was the issue. Apparently, that file causes problems with every update. What you can do is find your P3D add on folder, should be in your documents folder, and rename that to something else. P3D will generate a new one with no add-ons and then you can install one at a time to figure out what is causing the problem.
  8. Have y'all ran the 'Delete Generated Files' file in your P3D folder? It will remove everything the software generates on initial startup and then rebuild it on next launch. I was having similar issues with it hanging on splash screens, hanging on loading scenery, and even CTD since updating to 4.3. I had to do a complete re-install because some of the files ended up being corrupt. I ran that file above and it helped fix the issue, only after the fact...If that doesn't work, you can delete your entire Lockheed Martin folder in your Program Data folder and it will rebuild that one as well.
  9. If you look in the uninstall program menu, there will be 4 entries for P3D. Academic, Academic client, Content, and Scenery. I’m not really sure what the Academic is because the size is different than all three others combined on mine. When I ran the FSUIPC update this morning, I was getting CTD. I then ran the P3D setup and it updated my Academic entry from 4.1 to 4.3 and fixed my CTD.
  10. Sorry I meant I didn’t just run the P3D installer. I did each one individually and tested each one before doing the next one. The academic version has Academic and Academic Client and I didn’t have to update the Academic last night, but had to this morning.
  11. I had to update the one above the Client in the program install list once I upgraded to 5.13. Not sure why but that was the only thing I changed from last night to this morning. I didn’t do a complete install last night, only client, content, and scenery and everything worked. Then I updated FSUIPC this morning and had to run the P3D installer. It took like 2 minutes and it upgraded the Academic (not client) without having to uninstall anything.
  12. Not sure if anyone else had any issues with FSUIPC, but with the latest update, I had to update the Academic (not client) for it to work. Otherwise, I would get a CTD. Just a heads up out there...
  13. Ah, I gotcha. Well, hopefully you don't have to upgrade for a very long time again...I know it does suck having spent all that money only for a major update to be released.
  14. Lol it had been posted in here for at least a couple weeks now that 4.3 was coming out. I think the interview was back in April about 4.3. Oh well, you are now set for v5 and the years to come. (Glass half full)
  15. So the race is on to see who will be the first to post to complain about an issue or how things didn't get fixed....yay! Downloading my copy now...
  16. Just fantastic. I am loving your cloud sets too. They make the sim way better!
  17. Decided to do a morning flight from Seattle down to LA and captured this beauty. I figured I just had to share it! Just very slight color edit in photoshop. -b757
  18. Took a short hop up the coast from KSAN to KSFO and enjoyed every minute of it. All images straight out of sim with no edits. Here are some highlights:
  19. I can’t for the life of me figure out what is going on with VOX and the ATIS weather. Every time I tune to an ATIS whether for departure or on approach, it always gives the same weather. Winds are always calm and most of the time it is using the wrong runways. The weird thing is when tuning the ATIS for departure, the green bar readout at the top is correct, but the voice is not reading that METAR. It usually has the correct ALSTG or within .01”, but VIS is always 62NM (not sure why), no clouds, and winds calm. Anyway else have this issue? I am running 4.2, AS, REX SF for weather add-ons. Has anyone else run into this issue for weather? I’m getting to the point where I know this software isn’t for me much longer because of the issues, but enjoy the ability to practice the verbal comms.
  20. To me, that looks like your shaders are messed up or something because even my default clouds are nowhere near that dark. Try deleting your shader files and letting the sim rebuild them. Are you running PTA? There are settings in there that will brighten the clouds. Also, are you using default sky/cloud textures? I know kiwi_biplane from here has created custom sky textures that brighten up the sim including clouds. ASCA and REX should also have clouds that are brighter.
  21. I would much prefer TrueSky to Sundog. I think TrueSky has lots more of potential. If they had just slowed down the development of the clouds in the sim and not made it look like the clouds were waving at you, FSW would look amazing for weather. Even in the short amount of time I've used FSW, the clouds are pretty spectacular and the colors, especially at sunrise and set are on point. Sundog for most of the clouds look like several 2D textures wrapped around the center, especially when viewing from overhead. I have not used their software, but was curious if they allow for actual cloud development like in TrueSky? The stratus clouds in SD are fantastic I must stay. Either way, P3D must do something about the weather engine in the sim. 2D clouds are something we had in FS2004 and we thought were amazing, but it is time to upgrade. Even with AS or REX, as much as they say "3D clouds", we all know it is just 2D clouds and continue to spin as we move around the cloud. I hope to see some much needed improvements in the next version of P3D, but I certainly am not going to expect a lot. I would much rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed about the changes in the sim.
  22. What do you use to edit those texture files? Is this something easy to change or a rough process? I am willing to learn if there is some tutorial on it or something.
  23. I don’t know how you do it, but my gosh those are amazing. How many hours a day do you spend on PTA? Are you using Active Sky or REX for your clouds? Are you gonna post this theme to your site?
