  1. The HiFi team would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in our Active Sky 2016 SP1 Screenshot Contest! As always picking the winners was not easy this time around! There were many great contenders, but in the end we had to narrow it down. We picked 5 winners to showcase them in our forums. For prize details and contest results, please visit the screenshot contest winners thread. Thanks again to everyone for your participation! Stay tuned for future contests, giveaways and events!
  2. I have ActiveSky (latest) working fine with my NGX in P3Dv4.1. However - the weather radar only ever displays information in the right hand side of the gauge. Tilt, gain etc. all work OK - and I can see the sweep moving over the left hand side, but nothing ever shows there. Any ideas, anyone? Adam.
  3. hello good night (on Brazil) i have a problem with metar (all world metar are wrong) on Active Sky Next SE yes i use FSX-SE the metar on Active Sky on SBSG (example of São Gonçalo Airport located on Rio Grande do Norte State/Brazil) SBSG 230533Z 18015KT 9999 SCT025 24/21 Q1012 and report in real time on the station METAR: SBSG 230500Z 24003KT 200V280 9999 FEW018 22/21 Q1012 another example of SBGR (Guarulhos Intl. Airport located on São Paulo State/Brazil) real: METAR: SBGR 230500Z 00000KT CAVOK 12/11 Q1021 (wind calm) and active sky: SBGR 230533Z 06005KT CAVOK 17/12 Q1021 i'm new in Avsim and my english is not good 😉 Note: All the airports with wrong metar... are the servers under maintenance or not? this is my question, during the day it's work fine. Or are the stations reporting incorrectly because of Covid-19? i dont't understand hahahahha if you can clear this doubt I am grateful I would not like to spend money for nothing

Prevent Cloud Redraws and Local Station Writes with DWC is now ENABLED by default and ENABLED in the IFR/High Alt option profile.(4) New feature/option: Overcast Ceiling Enhancement – When enabled, the lowest overcast layer will be enhanced by adding and modifying complimentary cloud layers – This increases apparent thickness and restriction to visibility with a potential performance penalty – Please see documentation for addition information regarding this feature (1) New feature/option: Reduce Visibility In Cloud Layers (Requires DWC and Visibility Graduation and Smoothing to be Enabled) – When enabled, visibility will be reduced within cloud layers, proportionally based on layer coverage (1) New feature/option: Default Options Profile Screen – This screen will show at startup (can be hidden) and allow you to choose from various default options profiles that provide the recommended depiction mode and settings for various types of flying – Note that choosing a Default Option File will overwrite your current settings – We recommend trying all profiles before settling in on your ideal option set! (1) New enhancements to all depiction modes for better accuracy of cloud and other conditions (1) New official Prepar3D support! See documentation (initial “Important Stuff” chapter) for more information (1) New Station OIIE added to server fetch and default distribution (existing users must manually add station to data stations or update data station list from server to enable) (1) New Station EDJA added to server fetch and default distribution (existing users must manually add station to data stations or update data station list from server to enable) (1) New Station UASK added to server fetch and default distribution (existing users must manually add station to data stations or update data station list from server to enable) (1) New Station SEQM added to server fetch and default distribution (existing users must manually add station to data stations or update data station list from server to enable) (8) New save/recall persistence of last used Flight Plan “Speed” value (7) Added additional high performance wx data network server for more redundancy and better performance. (6) Added new Western Pacific tropical storm data coverage. (6) Added more room in Wx Report screen for textual TAF area to permit more than one line when using larger DPI/Font setting (3 lines available in normal DPI setting) (1) Added additional clear weather/reset during refresh as well as completion of synthesis in Smooth Cloud transition mode to prevent “stale” weather during loading of new or altered weather i.e. historical, edited, etc. (1) Added additional handling during AS2012 startup to check and ensure that the “FS haze layer” is properly disabled, in case the user has restored or installed a graphics set that enables the haze layer, causing visibility sync issues with the AS2012 weather engine (1) Adjusted wind layer turbulence generation for less turbulence overall at higher altitudes with default turbulence options (8) Adjusted Cirrus cloud generation for less chance of doubled/mirrored cirrus cloud effects and better balance of cirrus clouds depicted based on Cirrus Cloud Generation Percent option (7) Adjusted handling of failed downloads, so that if the very first download attempt fails, the program is automatically switched to offline mode and loads the last loaded weather – If a download attempt fails after a successful connection is initially established, the program will silently skip the download and retry every 30 minutes (7) Adjusted handling of “Load Preset” in Wx Edit screen so that the currently-selected Station ID is used in the loaded preset METAR string (instead of the station specified in the actual preset METAR) (5) Adjusted Flight Plan Navlog section to be multiple-row selectable (previously, you could select only one row) – This is useful for being able to select, copy and paste to external programs(5) Adjusted output rate during “Local Station writes with DWC” to be slightly slower to prevent overloading SimConnect with some aircraft/situations which could result in slow or improper ambient conditions depiction (i.e. temperature) (5) Adjusted DWC Local Station Writes processes in attempt to eliminate problematic temperature depiction/spikes as well as cycling clouds (clearing and re-forming). (5) Adjusted very high altitude temperatures to be slightly colder than previous in SP1 (by approximately 10%) – affects temperatures above 52,000ft only (1) Adjusted handling of single-left click of mouse on the system tray icon, to automatically bring up the AS2012 program - Use right click for the normal context menu (1) Adjusted documentation to reflect option/screen changes (1) Adjusted FSX/P3D native variable wind depiction to not activate until within 1500ft AGL, to avoid potentially large wind direction changes during approach where wind speeds may be higher (2) Adjusted “Overcast Ceiling Enhancement” feature to provide a better overall overcast depiction including thicker clouds and improved performance (2) Adjusted “Start FSX/P3D” tooltip to reference FSX/P3D instead of FSX only (2) Adjusted “Reduce visibility in cloud layers” feature to not reduce visibility in FEW/SCT cloud coverages (will only reduce in BKN/OVC) (2) Adjusted “Reduce visibility in cloud layers” feature to reduce visibility only up to a certain altitude in cumulus layers to avoid visibility reduction when not actually in the cloud layer (visually) as much as possible – Note: some desync between cloud layer boundaries and visual location with cloud sprites is unavoidable (2) Improved Interpolation system for more weight for closer stations with valid data, and extended the “clone” range to 3 miles (any station without data that is within 3 miles from a station with data will inherit most of its data instead of interpolating) (4) Improved “Force Destination Weather Zone” feature to simply always copy/clone destination weather without any interpolation logic if the destination station includes full surface information (4) Improved AS2012 DWC wind variability simulation for more realistic wind direction changes between approximately 4500AGL and 1500AGL – below 1500AGL FSX/P3D native variable wind depiction becomes active (2) Improved DWC depiction process for better cloud coverages (4) Increased speed and smoothness of visibility transitions (Visibility graduation and smoothing feature) (2) Slightly increased speed/smoothness of wind transitions (DWC depiction mode) (2) Default option changed for “Show in-Sim text messages” – now defaults to OFF (2) Default options changed for Prevent Cloud Redraws and Local Station Writes with DWC – now defaults to ON (4) Changed ICAO ID FAJS to FAOR (JOHANNESBURG AIRPORT – changed in server fetch and default distribution (existing users must manually add FAOR station to data stations or update data station list from server to enable) (7) Fixed problem where some METAR reports with “BECMG” elements, or duplicate cloud layers could cause corrupt cloud layer information and temp/pressure depiction issues (9) Fixed problem editing the surface wind layer in Edit Wx screen which would result in an unhandled exception(9) Fixed problem where some cloud layer information could become corrupt and cause depiction failures and temperature spikes (7) Fixed problem with recent new airport/data stations and edits being automatically removed from server database (8) Fixed problem with Wx Config screen where editing the surface layer (via the edit layer button) would cause aloft wind layers to become corrupt (7) Fixed problem with XGaugeWizard installation of Xgauge in Quality Wings 757 panels causing problems with Landing View (6) Fixed problem with XGaugeWizard installation of Xgauge in Aerosoft Airbus X Extended Fallback panel variant(7) Fixed problem where entering lower case letters in station ID field of Wx Edit screen would result in cursor returning to first position automatically after 3 characters entered (now characters are automatically set upper case as you type them in, and the cursor maintains appropriate position) (7) Fixed problem where attempting to insert a wind layer below 3000ft was not properly validated and would cause an unhandled exception (layers below 3000ft are now prevented and a message is given) (7) Fixed problem where importing a flight plan would cause the saved/persistent flight plan speed to be discarded(7) Fixed problem where Voice Flightwatch (122.02) would play even if the Voice ATIS/Flightwatch option was not selected (7) Fixed problem with flight plan import not properly importing user-created waypoints (via FSX flight planner) (5) Fixed problem with hurricane data no stations are within visible range (1) Fixed problem when in Standard depiction mode and “Disable Winds Aloft” is checked where aloft winds would mirror surface winds – Now aloft winds are null in this condition (1) Fixed problem caused by some SSD devices causing re-activation issues (reactivation requests should now eventually stop after 1-2 new re-activations after installing this new update) (1) Fixed problem with XGauge Wizard failing to install XGauge into Carenado C208B (1) Fixed problem with “Prevent Thunderstorms with CB” option not working in some cases (1) Fixed problem with using historical weather where invalid date and/or “over 3000 stations ignored” message can appear when using some historical downloads (1) Fixed problem in Wx Edit screen where changing station ID without pressing “Reload Current” could result in weather editing/changes applied to the previous station, not the selected one (1) Fixed problem where “Start P3D” button might not correctly activate and/or be usable when using Prepar3D mode (2) Fixed problem where simulator running detection (station database edits, graphics theme installs, closing AS2012) would not proper identify 6. Hi,After doing quite a bit of reading and research, I finally purchased ASE yesterday. The product seemed very promising, and I must say I was initially impressed. Unfortunately, this was short-lived and soon gave way to anger and frustration. As in the attached screenshots, I am getting random artifacts, tearing and other display problems. I have no idea if ASE is not liking my other add-ons but in the absence of ASE, they all happily worked together. I have not noticed anything specific triggering these issues. They just happen randomly with ASE running. Another issue I cant show in the screenies is flickering scenery. And I dont mean little distant sections, this is like half the airport building flickering...Its very disappointing to experience such issues with a product that has been in the market for a while. I dont get much time for flight sim, but what time I do get, I want to be flying, not posting for help in forums. I am sorry if my tone offends anyone, but its the 2nd payware in as many weeks to not perform. And Im just starting to question the quality of new products being released by some publishers.I use my pc exclusively for flight sim. Here are the specs:HP Pavillion w intel core 17 860 3.03 Ghz processor 8GB Ram, Nvidia GTX260The programs I am running: FSX acceleration with all updates, REX 2, Aivlasoft EFB, RC4, EZCA, Shade, FS Global 08, FSpassenger, audio environment & FS Scene.(pic5: a thick coloured line across the co-pilot windscreen)Also the clouds dont look right. Are they supposed to be 2-dimensional?Thanks,Sam Mustafa
  7. I had Active Sky 2012 and I uninstalled it yesterday. After installing it I restarted my computer and went back to FSX and when I pressed SHIFT+5 a blank HiFi Technologies radar came up. I went in and manually removed all the flies that are from Active Sky and HiFi Technologies and it still does it. I found out that it is called xGuage and I looked to see if there were any files with that name and there were not. So I would love to get this completely uninstalled so that SHIFT+5 pulls up what it is supposed to.
  8. I'm a long time user of most of these products with the exception of EnvTex.. i've heard and seen good things from EnvTex.. My preference with p3dv3 was to use Rex Texture Direct for the ground/water and use ASCA + AS16 for the sky/clouds.. Now with p3dv4 at hand and fully installed.. i'm debating which route to take. Its my understanding that Rex Texture direct should work with a patch any day now (i assume this means install the old installer then patch it?).. and I have installed the beta for aspd and asca.. though i'm not clear on the aspd and asca if i need to purchase anything to keep them installed (IE: do they expire).. i had purchased the AS license awhile back for 16/asca. (i'm a huge fan of the dynamic cloud feature with ASCA, which i believe is the only product to do this on the fly?) Given all this.. i thought maybe looking at EnvTex is worth a shot, though if i can achieve similar looks without spending more then i'd rather avoid it for now, as there are other addons on my shopping list :) Also not sure, but it looks like EnvTex is sortof a patch job to get it running too... In general i've gone to the all add-on.xml route with folder separation from the main p3d folder.. hoping rex/envtex would adhere to this in some way, not sounding likely.. seems like they are replacing textures directly (unavoidable i guess though since its texture replacements, ala FTXG style). So in general unsure here.. any experiences so far.. or thoughts on EnvTex vs Rex (at least for the ground textures).. I assume they are all on par and maybe i should just wait for the rex patch (and skyforce 3D as well). It sounds like the sky textures and maybe the runway textures cant be beat with EnvTex.. so maybe EnvTex + ASCA + AS16 (clouds with AS).. Thanks in advance
  9. Basically the title says it all.I'm trying to get the most realism out of my sim (P3DV3.3) and don't know which to go for. Any recommendations are welcome and are greatly appreciated! (I fly both tubeliners and GA aircraft)
  10. Hello, I have been tweaking FSX for quite a while now (or at least trying hah) and I've gotten some pretty good results (with various addons such as Orbx FTX Global, Vector, OpenLC, addon airports and also with the PMDG 777, Active Sky, ect) and it performes very satisfactory, but I have stumbled uppon an issue recently. I have a Intel Core I7 3930k @ 4.5 (used to be at 4.6, but went back to 4.5 so it stays cooler), stable. But I've been doing some testing and it seems that FSX never reaches my OC speed of 4.5 Ghz, but will instead only go up to 4.2Ghz. I measured this with CPU-Z. And yes, my cpu will run at 4.5, when playing other games, or running CPU intensive software and of course when running synthetic benchmarks like prime95. I would really like to take advantage of all of my horsepower, so getting FSX to run at my processor's OC speed is a priority! Some background info: - 3930k @ 4.5 (liquid cooled), 16GB Corsair Vengance @ 2133Mhz, ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II, ASUS Rampage IV Formula, 240 GB Crucial SSD (for windows only, sadly :/), 2TB WD Caviar Black HDD, 1000W PSU. - I do have HT enabled as I found it makes no difference disabling it for FSX and I do have the correct affinity mask setting for a 6 core, 12 thread CPU (so with HT enabled), which is 1364, and also my FSX CFG is properly tweaked. All help would be greatly appreciated )
  11. I can’t for the life of me figure out what is going on with VOX and the ATIS weather. Every time I tune to an ATIS whether for departure or on approach, it always gives the same weather. Winds are always calm and most of the time it is using the wrong runways. The weird thing is when tuning the ATIS for departure, the green bar readout at the top is correct, but the voice is not reading that METAR. It usually has the correct ALSTG or within .01”, but VIS is always 62NM (not sure why), no clouds, and winds calm. Anyway else have this issue? I am running 4.2, AS, REX SF for weather add-ons. Has anyone else run into this issue for weather? I’m getting to the point where I know this software isn’t for me much longer because of the issues, but enjoy the ability to practice the verbal comms.

  13. So I submitted a ticket yesterday because a reinstall of AS2012 would neither accept the key it came with, or the originally purchased ASA key from a few years ago. It's been 24 hours and the ticket is still in the "unassigned" category. How long does it usually take for them to fix a license problem?
  14. Hello, Does anyone else get these repetitive clouds in the sky, when running Active Sky, ASCA and TOGA Envtex, for P3Dv5?
  15. Good Morning From WIII, I have read a lot about rex environment force and active sky along with active sky cloud art but I still don't understand the difference of them. Can anyone help me to explain the differences of them? I want to get a flying experience that has realistic weather such as weather changes, texture of rain water, wind texture, etc. It might look like it's late to buy among the three, but I'm trying to improve my game and try a more real environment.
  16. HI, So, I'm confused. My set up is as follows: Main PC: P3D V3.2 (I haven't yet moved to V3.3 because I don't fancy the whole reinstall just yet - will make the move at some point) FSGRW Network Secondary PC FWGRW EFB VAS Monitor I've been running with FSGRW for some time and rather like it. It is simple to use on the network set up and gives me a reasonable representation of real world weather into the sim. Things advance though and get better and better. So I'm wondering about RES and/or Active Sky 2016. As I understand it there are two basic 'components': 1. The weather injection engine 2. Enhanced textures that just whatever weather is in the sim and make it look better I know that FSGRW is just item (1). So views: 1. Should I add REX 4 ? (That is just enhanced textures right ?) 2. If I went to Active Sky 2016, that would replace FSGRW wouldn't it (I'm thinking it is a weather engine as opposed to textures - see next line) 3. If I went with AS16, would I then consider Active Sky Cloud Art ? (That is textures right ? If so, would that work with FSGRW as it currently stands ?) There are so many products, I can't seem t understand which is what !! (Guess that is a good place to be rather than no products at all !) Any help for the simple of mind much appreciated :-) R
  17. This site is driving me mad> Can anyone help me out of this impasse! I lost my password but cannot access the site because I cannot get past the character recognition process. No matter my confidence that I am typing in correct characters, space between strings per instructions etc I just cannot get through. I have twice tried for help via their standard help facility but without reply. Anamiv
  18. Surprised not to see it mentioned here... http://www.hifitechinc.com/forums/showthread.php?1147-The-next-version-of-Active-Sky Being a long time customer of their products, I'm wondering what they have up their sleeves.... I also have OpusFSX and use them both (not at the same time ). Generally Opus for VFR/GA and Active Sky 2012 for tubeliner flights. Hope there will be someting of an upgrade discount for existing customers though...
  19. Forgive me, I'm a PRO ATC/ ATC noob First question: Is there a way to only receive SIDs as opposed to receiving heading vectors sometimes? Second question: When I DO receive vectors, do I just enter the heading they tell me to into the MCP until they tell me to continue on the path programmed in the FMC? On that note, how do I know when they want me to do that? And I'd select LNAV, correct? Third question: What does "continue as filed" mean? Is it the answer to the question above? Thanks a lot!!
  20. Hi everyone, In recent weeks I've enjoyed flying the PMDG 747 along with the beta for Active Sky in P3D v5. Overall, performance has been great and it has overall been a great experienced. However on one or two occasions now I have been noticing an issue. Often during cruise I get this 'anomaly' on the display when selecting weather radar. Sometimes the aircraft becomes 'laggy' for a minute or two and the speed may suddenly increase. The only way to resolve it is to turn off the weather radar. This is not a massive issue, but it is something that I have noticed now for the past few days. My hunch is that it may be a problem with Active Sky (because it's in beta) but I'm not 100% sure. So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? https://imgur.com/a/aPUUf3I
  21. Now that we have weather radar integration into the PMDG 777, will we see predictive and reactive windshear alerts with Active Sky Next? As this feature is available using the X-Gauge installer, it would be nice if it could be integrated into the PMDG cockpit. Regards.
  22. Hi all, I started to noticed that the upper level SAT temperatures in FS9 varied slightly to those being displayed in the winds aloft pane of AS6.5. To find out of there was a particular trend, I collected upper wind data from four different airports (KLAX, KORD, SBGL and FACT) and compared the wind data in FS9 to that being downloaded from AS6.5. For each level (FL030, FL060, FL090, FL120, FL180 and FL240), the temperature in FS9 was between -3.5 and -4.5*C cooler than AS6.5. In total I have 24 data points and they all display the same difference. To me this indicates that the difference is not random. Has anybody else come across this and can explain what is going on and how to fix it. I have 100% accuracy for upper wind set in AS6.5 too. Cheers. David.
  23. While the FSX: Steam preview is loading I now get an error that ASconnect is not compatible with my fsx steam version. However it worked before I installed REX Essentials+Overdrive and REX Texture Direct with Soft Clouds. I tryed reintalling simconnect, asconnect, active sky next and I'm stumped
  24. Hey guys, I noticed that Active Sky has 'realistic up and down drafts'...something I think is sorely missing (or poorly implemented) in FSX. I remember being kicked around quite a bit by those things in the little airplanes I flew...a sudden rise of a wing...gradual gain or loss of altitude under a cloud...bumps...all that stuff. For you real world pilots using Active Sky, what do you think of it? Realistic?
  25. Hi everyone,As we all know, the new and very sexy ASE2012 is out, and if it's not a hot-topic now, it probably will be.I'd like to start up an open discussion to find out how and what is the best way to configure ASE2012 over a network? The ASE2012 document / guide i feel is ambiguous - and doesnt clearly highlight what and where we need to do, or what todo step by step... eg, install SP1a and SP2 for SDK..etc...which im reading this can cause CTD's later on in flight? Also, the simconnect.xml can be located, but the simconnect.ini cant be located, so wondering does this come from SDK installs or from FSUIPC?When installing ASE2012, how do we get this to interract with the PC with FSX on it? EG: How do we find the domain IP so we can write this in to the simconnect. xml if im right?More questions around process and what the steps are to getting ASE to talk to FSX...so far, my attempts are not showing anything other than FSX: Disconnected....etc...Any help would be greatfully appreciated.Darryl
