This update is now available to all AS16 and/or ASCA users. Visit www.hifisimtech.com to download the update or learn more! Changelog: AS16 – Fixed an issue where custom weather METAR was not included in current_wx_snapshot.txt – Added functionality where Disabling cloud motion effect (cloud options) now prevents all high-res cloud detection and should improve performance when in/near clouds – Attempted improved P3D volumetric fog visibility blending to prevent visibility from rendering too low in certain cases as well as improving performance – Fixed a get runway API issue – P3D Compatibility Updates for version 3.4.22.19868 – Added new Random Light Chop Percentage option, default 25%, which controls the frequency of experience random light chop turbulence independent of weather conditions – Adjusted wind/jet layer boundary turbulence triggers to be less severe based on user feedback – Fixed annoyance issue where AS wx theme would not be selected in saved flights as a BMP theme file was missing (did not affect weather depiction, only wx theme name shown in saved flights) – Added reference to FSX:SE with explanation of potential path names within Simconnect chapters of the user’s guide – Improved documentation regarding maximum wind shear setting affecting gusts, and added this notation in the options detail (options UI) ASCA – Adjusted all overcast models for increased performance – Added new Overcast Quality slider setting providing 3 options: High Performance (full left), Balanced (middle) and High Quality (right). Higher performance = less coverage and higher frame rates. Higher quality = more coverage and lower frame rates. Defaults to Balanced, which is improved in frames approximately 20% from previous SP1 overcast, with minimal coverage loss. – Updated documentation to reflect changes, and added a Performance Considerations section which is a recommended read for all ASCA users.

  7. Hi, Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Let us know if you have any other issues. Warm Regards,
  8. Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone! I really appreciate the pros/cons list. We will definitely continue to work hard and improve the quality of AS16+ASCA. Eveyone's feedback is important to us! It helps us focus on the areas that we need
  9. HiFi has announced that two new titles have been officially released and are NOW AVAILABLE! First is Active Sky 2016 (AS16): AS16 represents the culmination of 16 years of weather simulation engine development! New In-Cloud Motion Effects, Weather Scenarios System, Airborne Weather Radar, P3D v3 Visibility Smoothing and Volumetric Fog Integration, Navigraph Data Integration, Re-designed Map-based Custom Weather Editing System, Universal Web Companion App, an Improved Mapping System and a High-Latitude Cloud Squeeze Fix are just a few of the new features to debut in this brand new version of Active Sky. Beyond the many new features, AS16 also extends and improves all aspects of weather simulation and depiction, from data parsing to synthesis, interpolation, depiction, performance, and everything in-between, your entire weather experience will be more realistic than ever before. AS16 works with any and all graphics add-ons, or can be used with default graphics. Optional integration with Active Sky Cloud Art (listed below) will provide Real-Time Weather-Influenced Texture Dynamics. A FREE fully-functional 7 day trial of AS16 is available to all users. Try it Now! An upgrade discount for AS16 is also available to licensed users of ASE, AS2012 or ASN. Next up is Active Sky Cloud Art (ASCA): ASCA is a new kind of graphics add-on for Flight Simulator X (Boxed or SE) and Prepar3D that incorporates brand new technologies and content types to transform your skies and significantly increase realism, variation and dynamics. The technology behind ASCA includes optional tight integration with Active Sky 2016 to enable features such as Real-Time Texture Dynamics, which allow you to manually change or have your textures automatically changed multiple times throughout a flight without needing to shut-down and restart your simulator! The variation experienced throughout a flight with AS16 + ASCA is unprecedented, especially when flying through areas of varying weather conditions and severity. In addition, in ASCA’s Full Dynamics theme, simultaneous variation of up to 8 different texture sets (128 cloud textures total) are provided including simultaneous texture resolution to provide increased performance for certain cloud types that don’t require high resolution (such as overcast layers). ASCA’s graphical content includes replacements/enhancements for everything above the horizon: Cirrus clouds, Cumulus clouds, Stratus clouds, Thunderstorm clouds, Sky colors and Lighting. But in addition to the graphical textures, ASCA also includes something very different: Brand New 3D Cloud Structures, which replace and/or enhance nearly every aspect of the cloud scene within the simulator!Thunderstorms are bigger, overcast is more full, light “few” humilis-type clouds are more visually appealing, and all cloud scenes are specifically tuned to match the ASCA texture content and provide maximum realism. A primary design focus for ASCA was performance. From solid overcast, to towering cumulonimbus, everything was designed for the best visuals with minimal performance sacrifice. Careful 3D modeling of cloud structures and textures enables this, while creating realistic and unique variants of the real-world cloud types including Stratus, Nimbostratus, Altocumulus, Altostratus, Cumulus humilis, Cumulus mediocris, Cumulus congestus, Towering cumulus, Stratocumulus, Cirrostratus, Cirrocumulus, Cumulonimbus incus, Cumulonimbus calvus and more. While ASCA and AS16 work great together, they are also fully compatible (either alone or together) with any other graphics add-on and weather add-on. You have full flexibility to mix and match any aspect and selectable feature set within these add-ons. Both products are NOW AVAILABLE for immediate purchase and download! Visit www.hifisimtech.com,www.activesky16.com and/orwww.activeskycloudart.com for more!
  10. Hi there, Thank you so much for your honest feedback. Yes I can agree some sky colors are more unnatural than others, something I can work on definitely! We do have various sets in ASCA on which some are more natural than others. We do plan on a comprehensive free update that includes more content. Your feedback and everyone else's here is very important to me. I want to incorporate aspects the community would like to see more of.
  11. Hi Jim, When using Static themes in ASCA you can pic and choose from the themes available or you can also create custom ones using your own selections. We agree that some styles and looks don't look best in all conditions. With our Global Automatic mode we've defined to only pick from the most natural skies and clouds. Hi Erich, Yes this would be a feature that AS16 provides. Full list of features here: www.activesky16.com Hi Mike, Nice talking again! I do remember, and thank you again for talking to us during flightsimcon. Pictures can only capture so much, but looking forward to people trying it
  12. Thank you very much for the feedback. I really appreciate it, been looking forward to hear the thoughts of everyone on here, even if critical. I will be working hard on implementing improvements and changes based on this feedback along with brand new content that focuses on what people want to see! I understand and agree that a good chunk of what was posted looks odd and "wrong". Not sure what our beta testers are running with to create lighting and shading effects (or what resolution settings are in play), but maybe and other add-ons or brightness/HDR/gamma options might be part of it. Just for comparison, here are a few screenshots that I've taken using P3D and FSX: There are also some screenshots and video (with more being added) at our website. Also, to answer some questions: AS16 and ASCA are separate. AS16 doesn't contain graphics, and ASCA doesn't contain a weather engine. If you have preferences either way, you are not forced to use anything you don't want to. Using AS16 + other graphics add-ons is fully supported! Please keep feedback coming and I hope that you will decide to try ASCA when released, as well as our separate weather engine product: AS16. The design goal so far was to create realistic immersion (including not overdoing shading/lighting/HDR) while being unique and also focusing on performance, which was/is a big challenge. But I can work on and provide whatever styles our customers and the community wants, and adjust design priorities to fit this. So I am definitely paying attention and am eager to work hard on what it is you'd like to see. Thanks everyone!
