May 1, 200620 yr Whenever I see a photoscenary, the first thing I gravitate to, are the airport scenaries.I think..Megascenary should work with or get into the business of building airports too.I need to look at LAgo Honolulu airport scenaryMannyPS So Cloud9 and LAgo are the same company is it?http://www.fscloud9.com/php/screenshots.ph...honolulu8_B.jpg Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 1, 200620 yr No,they are not the same company. Cloud 9 did some sceneries for lago like the wonderful Rome scenery.
May 1, 200620 yr But I went to both the sites and looked at their Honolulu airport pics. There were common screen shots. Then they both must be selling the same scenaryHmmmm...Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 1, 200620 yr I bought the scenery the other day and I love it, Hawaii is one of my favorite places. I was actually working on making a photoreal Oahu using the same freely available USGS aerial photos Megacity uses, but it was too much work for only 1 person. This is the reason why the scenery is so cheap; they got the photos for free.I doubt that they will do the other islands anytime soon, as there are no freely available aerial or satellite photos, except for small areas of shoreline. To buy these images is extremely expensive, I estimated around $10,000 for Kauai (my favorite island). I've made a little bit of crude photoscenery for Kauai though, if anyone wants to see it take a look at my webpage: http://www.geocities.com/armstrongaviation/KauaiDevPics.htmlAnd lastly: would anyone be interested in making some freeware addon scenery for Oahu with me? I'd like to redo PHNL; the Lago version is getting a little old and it's misplaced as we've already discovered. I have reference pictures for PHNL and Dillingham in the northwest tip of the island, and I think it would be cool to model some of the buildings in downtown Honolulu. Any takers? :)-Scott
May 2, 200620 yr What freely available USGS photo? the only one I'm aware of is a 3 band in IR Red and Blue and is missing big chunks on all Islands. Otherwise there are some NOAA photos of coastlines, but not interior. The C&C of Honolulu has a MrSID image of downtown but that has some shadow issues.Their website says it's from AirPhotoUSA which I suspect is true.scott s..
May 2, 200620 yr If you get rid of OB9 you kill alot of other scenery. If you install the default OB9, you might have problems on the other islands if you have FSG coastlines or UT USA.scott s..
May 2, 200620 yr Well, if you don't fly around any of the neighbor islands then yes, you wouldn't need FSG Hawaii mesh and landclass. I use the FSG HI mesh and landclass as well as UT USA. UT USA (and also FSG if you use their coastlines) provides some flattens in place of the default HP9 flattens that would still be required with the MegaCity Oahu. Now, you can probably get rid of the FSG PHJR AF2 file that was supplied, and use the Mega version instead.I don't have any problem with Lago PHNL, other than the taxi out to the reef runway (RB) is slightly offset but that one was off with UT USA as well.scott s..
May 2, 200620 yr I think the guy or guys who did PHNL for LAGO no longer develop for them but now publish as "Cloud9". I imagine Lago still has publishing rights for PHNL. I'm not sure Lago is that much a going concern these days? scott s..
May 2, 200620 yr I'm sure it's USGS. You can download all of the government "US Urban Area" photos from http://seamless.usgs.gov free of charge, but you can only download them in chunks at full resolution so it takes forever to get a sizeable area downloaded. I think all of their Megacity titles are based off this data, as well as Salt Lake City by FSAddon. Here is a list of all of the USGS high rez, free color imagery: http://seamless.usgs.gov/website/seamless/...listofortho.aspAs you can see, Honolulu (which includes the whole island of Oahu) is one of the newest on the list, just released in mid January. Megascenery got this pumped out pretty quick, so good job to them. Wish they had spent a little more time editing all of the clouds out, but for $9 it's still a great deal.-Scott
May 2, 200620 yr Scott,I did a few test flights around Oahu to look for missing scenery, but it looks like the MegaCity -004 file added everything back in at the adjusted location from the default anyway, so I didn't see anything missing. Are you saying that the default OB9OCENO file has scenery from other islands in it as well? I don't currently have any other Hawaii add-ons other than the various Bill Melichar Hawaiian airports.BradKELP/KBIF http://home.elp.rr.com/bmbanister/BannerSig_BMBanister.jpgAMD Athlon XP 2600, Asus A7V600, 1GB PC3200 DDR, NVidia 128MB GeForce 6800, SB Live

If there is a specific exclusion problem, get MegaCity to fix, rather than eliminating so much scenery. scott s..
May 2, 200620 yr Wow. that's great. Seamless was down for a few days, but I was able to get on just now, and that's great. MrSID or JPEG2000 would probably be a better way of distributing this data, but I won't complain about getting the big geotiffs. USGS also has a site called "Hawaii Data Clearinghouse" http://hawaii.wr.usgs.gov/ that knows nothing about this (shouldn't be surprised that one hand of USGS doesn't know what another is doing I guess.)Thanks again.scott s..
May 2, 200620 yr Thanks for the info. Guess it is back to the drawing board. The problem isn't with Megacity really. I'm just trying to exclude the terminal so I can use Bill Melichar's add-on. For some reason even adding an exclusion file won't remove the default terminal.BradKELP/KBIF http://home.elp.rr.com/bmbanister/BannerSig_BMBanister.jpgAMD Athlon XP 2600, Asus A7V600, 1GB PC3200 DDR, NVidia 128MB GeForce 6800, SB Live
