P3D Only Starts After Full System Reboot

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my first post on the forum so if this is the wrong way to ask these sort of questions then please do let me know.

When I try to load my P3D v4.1 it hangs on the splash screen permantely. But if I turn off my PC and the power-supply switch and wait a while, after turning it all back on it apears to load. I wouldnt know if this is a system issue or a P3D issue itself. If any more info regarding addons or more system specs let me know and I'll be happy to provide it to you all :)

Specs:

CPU: i7 7700K

16GB RAM

GPU: AMD R9 380

I would almost have to say hardware issue.

I'd suspect the power supply, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that it could be the memory, or motherboard.

I just got a new motherboard too and RAM too... thats what makes it so weird. Other games start fine so that leads me to think it may just be a game issue. My power supply fan is slowly breaking but I cant see how that would cause an issue for only P3D.

P3D pushes a rig very hard, harder than most "game" titles.  Have you run Prime95 on it, for an extended period of time?

I play games that would push my rig even further than P3D trust me ;)  And yes Ive ran Prime95 for 9 hours and everything was perfectly fine.

It might be a good idea to post your add-ons.  Some of them are loaded at splash time.

Have you left it running, say for 20-30 minutes?

Are there any messages in the event viewer? I really doubt a hardware issue if it's hanging at the splash screen. What add ons are you running? Have you tried deleting the P3D.cfg file? Rename the dll.xml files and try then. If it works - add back the individual xml entries until you can isolate the issue.

It will have to be a trial and error situation.

I have the same issue with it getting stuck on the splash screen. Have pretty much since the beginning. What I do to fix it is I have a shortcut to my scenery.cfg file on my desktop. Before I start P3D I edit the file and just add an extra line to the end of it, save and close. Then start up P3D. I think it is because of the popup for compiling scenery that allows it to get past the splash screen. Next time before I start it up I delete the extra line. Deleting the scenery indexes does the same thing.

I had also deleted the Prepar3d.cfg file and let it rebuild it and that worked one time as well. But once I started it up the second time it got stuck on the splash screen again.

Next time it happens, check the taskbar to see if there are any secondary windows indicated there (usually by a "stacked" pair of icons).  If so, try opening it from the task bar.

I've seen menu dialogs pop up behind the main splash before and the sim was not hung, it was waiting for a response to a dialogue I could not see.

Regards

If you mean Prime95 I left it running for an hour ish then the next day did a 9 hour run. No issues.

If you mean P3D however Ive left it "Loading" for just over an hour before giving up.

There are no messages in the event viewer that Im aware of, Ive tried deleteing thw CFG file and still nothing. I didnt think of renaming the dll.xml filed so I shal do that next time I run P3D. As I have just got home and left my power supply switch off all day the game has loaded normally but next time it happens Ill be sure to rename them.

So the issue has re occured and it turns out that it doesn't even show in the taskbar but in task manager (And theres only one Prepar3D exe tab in  there) so this eliminates that possibilty of a extra window in the background.

Ill try what you did with your scenery.cfg

Thanks for all your help guys

Have you modified your 'default flight'?  I had the same issue when I used my PMDG as a default plane (big no-no and all over their threads).  I'd try deleting your default flight from your docs folder.  It'll reload, nothing complicated

Too tall to fly for real, so I sim instead

Nope, still the same old fighter jet. Plus I have it load onto the startup screen and not directly into game.

Does 'Run as administrator' make any difference?  You're at the default aiprort too?

I notice you tagged this as P3D 4.1, have you considered updating and trying it on v4.2?
