Business Jet for P3D v3.4 - help needed please

My main flying is with FSL Concorde but that is predominantly 'serious' flying over long distance and generally over open ocean. For 'fun' flying I recently bought the Carenado Pilatus PC-12 and I enjoy that too.

I'm now looking at a business jet for semi-serious flying around Europe and the US. I've read the various discussion about which jets are best but can't make up my mind which way to go. I don't fly on-line.

For good looks the Carenado Phenom 300 with a G100 glass cockpit looks really nice. I know their reputation is for looks rather than flying accuracy but it does appeal. My main concern is about fps with that G1000 unit. I'm unsure if my GTX 1080 / i4770K 4.4GHz system would be enough.  I imagine it takes quite a hit compared to conventional gauges. Do I also need the SVS system? Can it utilise a weather radar with AS16?

The other aircraft I'm thinking about is the Xtreme Prototypes Learjet GLJ25. This has great reviews but if I'm honest the VC looks a little dull with all those analogue gauges. But fps would be great I'm sure. Again, not sure if I can have a weather radar using AS16.

For convenience I'd prefer for a flight plan to be loaded into P3D and for the a/p to read this directly. Having to input a plan via the aircraft's systems would be something I'd prefer not to have to do.

Those are the two I've short-listed with their pros and cons. Which would you recommend or have I missed any alternatives worthy of consideration?

Thanks for your opinions.

Hi Ray,

I have the Phenom 300 and think it is awesome.  Here's a video I watched the other day that might help make your decision (starts at about 3:40 but the first part is good too!) -

Thanks Jim. It does look flippin' awesome. Three questions:-

1) How does a flight plan get loaded?

2) Is there any fps hit compared to your other aircraft?

3) Do you have the SVS system?

I haven't had a chance to really check out all of the features of the Carenardo Phenom 300 but have flown it several times and really enjoy flying it.  The textures are awesome, especially in P3Dv4.2 as you can ratchet up the sliders a bit more than a 32 bit sim.  There is an excellent tutorial by Celin101 in the forum too -  https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/741-emb505-phenom-300-hd-series-for-fsx-p3d/.  Ray Marshall also did an AVSIM review of the aircraft for P3DV2 (the aircraft has now been updated for P3DV4 -

Thanks. I'll take a look at those. I am leaning towards the Phenom as things stand given it's for fun flying.

Thanks @zmak. I did look at that yesterday but for some reason didn't include it in my final selection.

Hi Ray,

Some info on the GLJ 25.

Personally I think this aircraft is right up there. It's fantastic but let me give you some facts.

The VC is not dull with all those analogue gauges and since you fly Concord that's a funny comment.

Ok you will need to buy the GTN 750 for it and you will need to program a route into it. Normally short routes so takes 3 mins max.

FPS are ofc very light. Sounds great. Looks great.

Its fast, its very fast and cruise can be very hi.

Keep in mind you wont need to buy a GTN 750 as it already has that function built in. How ever if you expand further into GA then the GTN 750 is very highly recommended!!

David, because I'll be flying more for fun I wanted to use the latest technology rather than be stuck in 60s - 80s technology. My love for Concorde means I accept the analogue gauges. But for fun flying I wanted something completely different.

I am testing a moving map utility (under NDA so can't say what) so a GTN750 is not required.

I appreciate none of these three aircraft are that expensive. I just want to gauge your views on which you rate the highest.

So far it's a draw for each of the three aircraft.

Although if he prefers to load a P3D flight plan he won't need the GTN.  (Because it doesn't do that)

I own the Lear 25 - amazing addon - but for my 2500k 4ghz /gtx 970 - it's a bit rough on fps due to all the textures

David, can't the GLJ25 accept a standard P3D flight plan?

I've just read Mutley's review of the Phenom 100 and it got a glowing review and no mention of the G1000 unit being a fps hog. http://www.mutleyshangar.com/reviews/ag/emb500/emb500.htm

No idea Ray as I have used the 750 from day one. Yes the GLJ is old school so if you want moden it's not the one.

All I can say it's great fun and very fast to set you, if I really want to be fast i can get from C& D to taxi in under 10 mins easy. Most time consuming part is setting up the 750. The aircraft is as simple as it gets. The VC is old school but beautifully modeled.

Whatever way you go Ray, Enjoy!

Of course it did since Mutley's refuses to mention systems/avionics accuracy and performance.  Why do they continue to ignore this important aspect in every single review?  At that point, it's a non-review.

Honestly, with the Carenados you really need the GTN750 along with Mr. Pieke's mods.  They bring the planes and jets to near perfection.  (The S550 v2 being the exception since it does work right out of the box with the GTN750.)
