Good choice. I have that one too. With the 750 integrated.

Product X will accept a FS flight plan and then you can select departure and arrival runways and then select the SID/STAR appropriate for the winds.

Those extra waypoints will then update the plan in the sim and providing NAV mode is enabled it will fly the SID and STAR without further involvement from the pilot. There is also the option to add extra waypoints and to fly direct to any waypoint in the plan.

That would appear to make the GTN unit unnecessary for anyone using Product X notwithstanding the admittedly attractive visuals the GTN750 contains. Would you agree?

SIDs and STARs are "airliner speak"..  Us GA pilots like to talk about ILS and RNAV approaches..

Just a different approach (pun intended) to navigation..

There must be a reason though, why the Garmin GTN avionics suite is a best seller in the real world..

But, if you like Product X... Great!

Fly safe!

I don't have the XP Lear25 (my hesitation is still the incompatibility with P3Dv4 dynamic lighting, and I am not sure if I will get accustomed to the old style gauges after the Phenom300) but  I love my Phenom300 with Mr.Piekes GTN mod which is great! I don’t have any problems with the Phenom300  and another plus for me is that in IVAO Phenom300 is categorized as “Medium” so I can fly the IFR tours with it :)

Both have 750 integration by the way.

Only with Bert's mod on the Phenom 300.  The S550 has integration out of the box.

The only thing I have ever purchased from Carenado is disappointment, why I used to keep going back for more is a mystery to me.

You've made the right decision with the XP Lear, since you can flip panels I was wondering if you can use the GTN in one panel and the default in another; then if you want a quick flight where you load the P3D plan - use the default, else use the GTN - best of both worlds. I'm not mad on steam gauges, but that one is great...

Other than that I like the Mustang - slow, but great if you like the G1000 or the Citation X, still not found a biz jet with a better FMS - both of those can load a p3d plan...

Bert,

Are you on commission?  I’m pretty sure Product X also has RNAV options. It also has Rwy-5, Rwy-8 as options on departure and arrival. As it uses Navigraph data it seems possible it uses the same data as the GTN750.

I’m not ruling it out entirely. I just need to see how the Lear combInes with X once I’ve learnt the basics and got her airborne.

Not really - I've flown SID's and STAR's in the real world using a GTN 750, including DME Arc's. All in autopilot with the 750. Very cool to do.

But product X has never been fitted to a real world air frame, so at that point what exactly are you simulating ?

I’m not looking for real-world replication. I run X on a second PC and the display fills 2/3 of a 24” TFT. Whilst not matching real world ops the larger display makes a world of difference.

Space is very limited in a real cockpit especially small ones so these displays are necessarily small. The beauty of home setups is more space is available including extra screens. I feel that enhances the enjoyment if not the realism.

Agreed, actually, real world pilots sometimes strap iPads to their flight yoke, for the exact same reason.....
