March 5, 20188 yr Author I removed the cpu and reseated it.. didnt look as though there was any liquid metal compromising anything. checked cpu pins all v small but didnt see anything out of sorts. I cleaned the bottom of the CPU to be sure then replaced it, put cooler back on. On power up now I get error 19 and the CPU LED lit on the mobo. Tried resetting CMOS by the button on the back, no difference. Dead CPU? Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
March 5, 20188 yr Moderator Did you ensure that the one little spot in the case was NOT sealed? Meaning you must leave an opening in the seal around the case. Also, some research on qcode 19 indicates a possible mobo error. Look closely and see if anything has dropped on the CPU contacts, etc. Try some compressed air (oilless) and blow out the cpu socket. Vic Thanks Vic, I presume you mean the CPU heatspreader when you say leave an opening in the case? Yes I only glued the 4 corners leaving the rest unsealed. I cant be sure now that was ok..? I inspected the CPU contacts and didnt see anything I thought to be foreign there. Maybe I missed something...? Use the best magnifier and brightest lite you have - see if any one pin in the cpu socket appears bent. Also, with all the install/remove cycles - double check that your ram is still seated properly and video or any other cards you have are also. BTW, what color is the CPU led? March 5, 20188 yr Moderator I guess it's possible for a part of a cpu to fail but I'm still betting on the mobo having an issue. A sorted pin on the cpu socket or in the DIMM sockets could cause something like that. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
March 5, 20188 yr Did you try your new PSU with the CPU/mobo before you delidded it? It could be that when the PSU failed it took out the motherboard and your delid is actually a good one but your mobo is kaput....

So check anything installed in the PCI slots, including your graphics card is properly seated. In addition, some have noted that on Asus boards the RAM is hard to seat. So make sure your RAM is properly seated. If it's not, code 19 can pop up. Common on the Maximus IV Extreme. 19 is: Pre-memory PCH initialization is started. So yes, as there's an LED on the CPU, may be that. But on the other hand, if it's pre memory, may be that. Did you try one stick only? Then the other stick? And then the same in another slot? March 6, 20188 yr Does your board have duel BIOS? Look in your manual. Can you switch to the second BIOS? Did you say previously that you were going to try a different CPU? Edited March 6, 20188 yr by martin-w

March 7, 20188 yr Author Update: Tried reseating all mem units and the GPU - no improvement. Ive installed the new 7700K (no delid) and on boot it showed error 55 (no mem installed) I took out the mem, tried one slot at a time and it booted ok. Put the other mem slot in and again a good boot. So I have a working PC again and I guess it looks like I stuffed up the delid... I may go back and try swapping the CPU back again now I know everything else is working good, to see whether it is definitely dead, but I have to see what this CPU can do in terms of OC without delid before that... Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions Cheers K Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS

Its running at 5Ghz with 1.4v apparently I ran a stress test through CPU-Z and with all cores at 100% its barely going into the high 50's temp wise....with no delid and using the previously applied liquid metal as TIM. Glad you got it sorted Kevin. High 50's at 1.4 volts at 5 GHz with no delid... Try RealBench. Bet it's hotter than that. Especially with a Seidon 120. The CPUz stress test isn't a good test for thermals. It's puny. 90 degrees more like. I'd love to know what went wrong with your delid. Did you use a tool, or a knife? You should pull it to bits and look for any issues like scratched die, substrate etc. Edited March 7, 20188 yr by martin-w
