Does anybody else suffer from this?

Featured Replies

I find myself using the simulator for ONLY real world flights. For instance, I wanna do a flight to my new Cloud 9 LAX airport scenery in a 767, but I don't have a lot of time for a long flight. So, I find myself looking at airline schedules, but DAL flies there from ATL and then there are international flights as well. I know AAL flies the 67 there on some domestic routes as well. For some reason, I can't bring myself to jump in the LDS767 and do a flight from LAS to LAX because I can't find a real airline that does it! It's the same with my PMDG 747-400 and freighter.Does anyone else suffer from this, and how did yuou manage to overcome it???

Hee hee, I do exactly the same thing :)There was a time when I just hopped in a jet and flew where I wanted when i wanted in whatever plane I wanted. But as time went by and I simmed more and more I wanted to add a wee bit more realism so I found mysef checking the timetables, Im sure it was the same with you. There is no escape....:( Its odd isnt it..sometimes it bugs me!Or maybe there is.....why dont you download a Boeing Business Jet (BBJ). There is a freeware paint for the PMDG NG737s (that even includes a aircraft.cfg tweak to add the extra fuel tanks and increase the thrust of the engines to reflect a real BBJ). There are also repaints for Poskys excellent new NG737s in BBJ guise. With one of these...well you can overcome the airline-timetable mindset and fly anywhere...anytime!http://www.projectopensky.com/thumbnails/664.jpg

One of my favorites folders in IE is just for airline flight timetables. Find the flight, go to flightaware to get the current real world route..and go fly.

You are not alone my friend - I now regularly consult Flightaware. I use only correct (complex)equipment on rw routes - preferably with the actual route flown and definitely with the right flight number. My only real compromise now is scheduled dep/arr time - can't help that. This evening I was surprised then to hear ATC at times calling my flight number but not talking to me - seems I just happened to be on time as AAL83 763 service EDDF-KORD and clashed with my AI counterpart :) - or I should say the little as-the-crow-flies faker clashed with ME :-lolOvercome it? - can't bother - more fun this way as it limits my flying, takes more planning and keeps it all fresh.regards,Markhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

That and flightaware will let the real world flight dispatchers find the best route for you. Think about it. They file the most favorable route for winds aloft and other wx related items. Just look up any transcon from say ATL to LAX by flight number. Then look at the last 7 days of that route. Its different each day due to the fronts coming through the US. Like Mark said, its fresh every day. Makes it just that more realistic for me at least. To bad our European friends don't have something like Flightaware (although its great for planning trips to/from the US). I just did the current real world route from KDTW to EHAM. I just import the route from flightaware into FSBuild due to FSBuild using the current real world NAT tracks so they mesh perfectly. Makes great flight planning!

I fly out of Orlando and there are 767's to Atlanta from there. The shortest 744 flights I find are from KLAX to KSFO Mostly Asian Freighters. There is a United 763 Flight 254 departing Los Angeles at 6:20AM (Should be a nice sunrise flight)to Denver arriving 9:14. It's not to much further than KLAS and your flight path will take you close to or right over it. There is also a UA 892 from KSFO to KDEN. So there are some shorter flights for the 763.

Thanks

Two words: Anally Retentive :-)

I jump in whatever jet I feel in the mood to fly and fly anywhere I want..The only time I copy a real world flight is before I go on a trip just to see what the approach procedures are like...:-)With this in mind I did an online flight in an Air Jamaica A320 in Australia and they asked me what the heck is an AJ doing there? Told them I was lost and on the way back to Miami LOL that was fun...Bill

>Two words: Anally Retentive :-)Not Really I just looked up the info on flightaware.com per the posters question. I don't sit around all day memorizing flight numbers and destinations normally! I do use it though when I do fly, since they post (Atleast for flights in US) The actual flightplan flown. I use that as input to FSBUILD.

Thanks

Hey Tom, thanks for those flights. I wasn't aware of the UAL 763 flights. Which Asian freighters fly that leg from LAX to SFO? I also use Flight Aware, and have for a couple months now, and I absolutely love it. It brings a completely new dimension of realism for me.

It is a disease that's hard to overcome ;-) Recently, I've also been using flightaware.com, but in conjunction with my new Eaglesoft Citation II. Though I sort of miss the systems, etc. of the PMDG and Coolsky MD80 with the Citation, what I've gained is some great new destinations. The Citation can squeeze in and out of some small airports. I just scan through flightaware for the C550 that are flying, pick out a few flights that are listed of about 1.5 hours (all the time I can usually afford), with some destinations I've never even heard of, and off I go. It's been really fun developing some flight plans and then flying into some of these uncontrolled airports in IFR conditions. I wish the Citation was up to PMDG standards, but for $19 it certainly gives a lot of new freedom in terms of available flights. Using flightaware I had no idea all of the places these little jets go. Mike

These are the 747 flights to KSFO (Actually most are passenger not cargo!) I also included the 747-200 flights!744 Cathay Pac 89 12:30AM 1:20AM744 Korean Air 213 11:00PM 11:54PM744 Korean Air 8213 2:42AM 3:27AM742F Nippon Cargo 153 12:50AM 1:50AM *742 JAL 6083 2:01AM 2:48AM * I assume this one is a 747-200FJust checked Cathay's schedule and they don't list flight 89 so my guess is that it and probably all of them are cargo planes especially judging from the posted departure times!!
