July 5, 200619 yr Worthy news for flight simmers. The recently released title "Over G Fighters" for the Xbox 360 console is getting great reviews from many long time flight simmers. It's described as a sim with a little bit of arcade. You may be able to read some of the comments here at the xbox forums:http://forums.xbox.com/5198628/ShowPost.aspxSorry it appears the link don't work !! :-(Maybe a copy and paste ?I believe this is a first for consoles and may lead to more interesting and fun aviation titles.aquafx
July 5, 200619 yr Too bad it's on a console!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg Best, Michael KDFW
July 5, 200619 yr Let me tell you.. I've just played what FSX should offer in G Fighters. Great game/sim, looks fantasic on a 50 inch HD... great communication with fellow players and so smooth ... a great way to spend over eight hours the first day I bought it, couldn't put it down. Hope FSX will bring the same excitement. Excellent representation of what Xbox360 offers and I hope my new computer system in aug will be on par for sept release w/ FSX. my one penny... Steve
July 7, 200619 yr Author I don't understand ? Is this not an aviation simulation website ? Why has avsim decided to ignore the release of this title ? Over G Fighters is a huge leap forward, bringing aviation simulation to mainstream console gamers. IMO it's worth buying the 360 to play this game alone.I absolutely LOVE IT !! I recommend this to all. Smooth as silk and looks great too !!Don't believe some of the bad reviews by gamers expecting an arcade experience. They say it's too realistic. There's a great sim hidden inside !For heaven's sake AVSIM, don't ignore this amazing title any longer.
July 7, 200619 yr I can't find too many original screenshots I haven't seen before....But I'll say - if the flight engine is that good, how great would it be to have either FS (my dream) or an "FS-Lite" something akin to Pilotwings 64 on the 360?I've said it before!---Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
July 8, 200619 yr Just bought it yesterday. My 10 year old son loves it, and it's growing on me. It's kinda like "Lock On - Lite" for the X360.
July 8, 200619 yr Can one of you guys who owns it provide a little more detail...How much functionality is included in the cockpits? How do the carrier ops work?Thanks./Dave
July 8, 200619 yr Author Well, I'll give it a shot. Controls:Left and right triggers = RudderLeft and right bumpers = ThrottleBack = Wingman menuStart = Open/close Pause ControlY = Change Weapon/ Nav Mode . Nav,Land,Gun,SW,MSL,Bomb,Auto modesX = Swith to GunsB = Chaff/FlaresA = Fire WeaponD Pad = Up - Toggle AirBrakes Down - Landing Gear up/down Left - Special Function * Right - Change TargetLeft Toggle = Control StickRight Stick = Free View System viewpoint/ switch viewsThe views available are Vurtual cockpit, Behind View, Free Spot ViewAircraft Available:F16C F-16AM f/A-18C F/A18E F22A A-10A OA-10A F35B X-35C F-15C F-15J F-15E F-2A/B F-117A JAS39C F-14A SU27 SU33 MIG29S. There may be more and there's some different paint schemes like the Blue Angels etc..Game Modes:Scenario, Challenge with Arena and Strike mode/mission editor, and Online Multiplay (I hear it's great). There are destroy planes missions, destroy ground target missions, destroy ships missions, escort missions, protect missions, etcGround: Taxiing, Takoff and LandingAircraft Carrier: Takeoff and LandingsThe visuals are fantastic no pop-up, stutter or fog-effect. You can see out to the horizon, and FPS are high and fluid throughout. Cockpits and sounds are close to authentic, landings requires focus, controls are decent, there are even joystick curves in options for the little sticks. The game starts by default with an easy setting and the first few missions are very easy which of coarse is good for beginners. This has given people a wrong first impression. Give this game some time and set the settings to SIM and give expert a try. If you look at this as a quick living room fix, you will not be disappointed. It won't replace a dedicated pc home cockpit setup, but then again, you do not have all the associated hassle. Just boot and play. Little details will keep popping up that surprise and satisfy.aquafx
July 8, 200619 yr I picked up Over G Fighters last week when it was released. It has some good points and I did enjoy it for a couple of days.Great graphics, very smooth framerates, and they made a pretty good attempt at making the cockpits of the flyable aircraft pretty authentic. The replay feature especially is a lot of fun to watch. I was also pleasantly surprised by the flight models, they actually make the aircraft seem to fly authentically, whilst remaining flyable with a console controller. However, the rest of the game badly lets it down. The story line is bad, the voice acting is terrible, and the mission briefings are pretty pointless, as each mission basically involves shooting all the bad guys. If you hit an enemy aircraft with a missile it just explodes and that's it. No debris or flaming wreckage. The wingman AI isn't up to much either.I've been flying military flight sims for about 15 years now, and civilian sims for about 6 years. I wasn't expecting something like Falcon 4, but I did want to see what the Xbox360 could do for a "flight sim". As I said earlier, I was pleasantly surprised, but after a couple of days you realise there is absolutely no depth to the game, every mission is basically the same and the voice acting *really* grates. It's probably a good introduction for people new to flightsims, but for experienced simmers I think it's not much more than an interesting diversion for a few hours. July 8, 200619 yr Amen, I usually do not post here but I just wanted to say that in all my years of simming I have never grown bored of it but Over G managed to bore me to bits within 3 hours, as my predecessor said, no depth, boring missions and deplorable voice acting, no thanks, I shall stick with FS .. just my personal opinion :)
July 9, 200619 yr Commercial Member Gamespot, who I usually trust, gave this a very lackluster 5.9 out of 10... Might try renting it to see if they're off the mark. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
