August 29, 200619 yr Well I'm most interested in flying the thing of course. But another aspect I'm interested in is what the beta process is like. Are you given a way to give some direct feedback to the ACES team? Such as...If you discover a bug is there a link you are given to check a list of known bugs/issues that have already been reported? What is the form to fill out for reporting a bug like?(assuming we have the ability to report a bug)Are they interested in hearing your overall impression of the sim? For example, perhaps giving some feedback on a sepcific new feature and any ideas you might have on how it could be improved upon(if any).Things of that nature. Can you chat directly with an ACES team member through VOIP? Yeah right. :-lolCheers
August 29, 200619 yr Well, with betas I've been a part of in the past:There's usually a beta forum, password protected, to discuss issues out of the public eye, suggest improvements (usually in competitive games where play balancing happens at the later stages), talk about how cool/not cool/whatever the game is.There should also be a bug reporting mechanism. A recent beta I was in had an automatic debug script run when a crash was detected, but it could be pulled up at any time, that grabbed a bunch of system info and current game state info and gave you a text box to describe the error, what you were doing, if it's happened before, etc. and send it immediately to a fileplanet database, who appearently turned the data over to the developers.Other betas have had feedback forms or external bug reporting programs, and some have gone exclusively through a web form. But we should have some element of bug reporting in there. It will be important to note that the ATC not being upgraded is NOT a bug. :( Point being, suggestions for improvement already have an outlet, which is [email protected], whereas whatever format the bug reporting is in will be for reporting program errors in the beta as it is.As everyone has already said, I can't wait.
August 29, 200619 yr >I really hope we get that special email today :-jumpySo do I but we just know it won't happen don't we! :-)

August 29, 200619 yr Hi Tom,Thanks for trying to update us, but we already know...reported on page #27 of this thread! ;)>Well, with betas I've been a part of in the past:>>There's usually a beta forum, password protected, to discuss>issues out of the public eye, suggest improvements (usually in>competitive games where play balancing happens at the later>stages), talk about how cool/not cool/whatever the game is.>>There should also be a bug reporting mechanism. Would be good and interesting if there's a forum specifically for FSX beta testers. Now c'mon FP, pick me! :)Cheers all
August 29, 200619 yr For those looking in, this is the same blog entry as noted yesterday morning by NotASenator in post 17770. (eg: Fileplanet has the beta but is working on a method for unique key distribution)Thanks for the vigilance though, Tom!-Greg
August 29, 200619 yr >Fileplanet has the beta but is working on a method for unique key distribution)Don't worry this issue will only take another couple of weeks to get worked out (-:
August 29, 200619 yr Author The sign up page is still there. Until that disappears I don't suppose we'll see anything.

If you (generic 'you' meant) are one of those who do not send in the error reports, then you have only yourselves to blame for not doing your share in the process of feedback! For those who're unaware, all of these reports are fed into a gigantic error reporting database (known as "Dr. Watson") where they are collated, compared and matched up to indicate certain "trends of failure." The diagnostic reports provide the ACES folks specific lines of code that seem to be problematic. Together with this knowledge, and identification of commonalities of hardware/software combinations, they are able to determine whether any specific issue warrants a 'patch,' or whether it is best addressed in the next version currently under development... ;)"tdragger's blog" makes mention of the immense value of these diagnostic reports...
