Try turning the autogen and ai traffic off (ground/sea/air).. and then max everything and see how you go.Aparently there's a bug in the autogen causing low FPS.

>fyi, sfb your system is old hat when compared to the one I>use! and no doubt I have been flying fsim since you were in>diapers judging by the level of intelligence displayed in your>answer.:-lol Anybody can say they have an awesome gaming rig but it doesn't necessarily make it true. Oh I see, somebody disagrees with you and all of the sudden you know how many years they've been flying FS. I could argue all day with all the nay sayers on the forum but I don't feel like wasting my time doing so.

>Try turning the autogen and ai traffic off (ground/sea/air)..>and then max everything and see how you go.>>Aparently there's a bug in the autogen causing low FPS.Thanks for the reminder JuiceRabbit. I changed my screeen resolution to 1280x1024 (down from my usual 1600x1200). I also changed several settings to the following values:Global texture resolution = very highAdvanced Animation is checkedFiltering = Trilinearterrain complexity and LOD radius settings maxMesh resolution = 38mtexture resolution = 2mwater effects = low 2.xland detail textures is checkedScenery complexity = very denseautogen density = sparsespecial effects = mediumAll shadows turned offAI Traffic all set at 18% or lowerAirport vehicle density = lowAirline traffic = 15%GA traffic = 55%I am using CAT 6.5, with AA = 4x, AF = 4x, and default clock rates on my 9800 Pro. My P4 is overclocked to 3 GHz.My FPS was much better - in the range of 20-26 FPS during the late afternoon and evening flight time in CLEAR weather.I was flying the purple RealAir 172. Everthing worked in this 172 except the main gauges were missing - no big deal - who needs the airspeed indicator, attitude, altimiter, VSI, turn coordinator, and heading indicators? I fly my planes by the seat of my pants. :)I am very excited about FSX. The mouse look function is so cool!! Just press the SPACE bar and move your mouse around. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out - that's a very nice feature! I also tried the mouse yoke. I liked it except when in the VC I was using the mouse to pan around and then immediately used my mouse to control the yoke: it caused my plane to go out of control. Perhaps in the VC whenever we select Mouse Yoke, the sim should default to the straight ahead view and should show a different icon on the screen (both mouse look and mouse yoke use the same crosshair icon).I am glad I had the courage to try out the Demo on my average PC. Now I need a second job to feed my FSX addiction. Thanks Microsoft Aces Team!:DDavid

think about it .. you are frustrated with a game that has not been released. Relax, FSX will be as fun as ever ...Regards,Vern

I will wait for Vista/DX10 and the hardware to run DX10 before getting this slide show. Especially now that ACES (IMO) screwed up and left the online world with the "dead world" so to speak by turning all the stuff off when in multiplayer mode. Another 3 years of dead looking airports for online flyers. I can understand AI planes for sure but everything else.....real stupid.

It runs pretty well on my system. I get the occasional blurries but hopefully this will be optimised a bit by the time it goes gold. It's running on the default settings, the autogen buildings do look a bit sparse but I'll try bumping them up to maximum later. Water looks good. Road traffic looks good as well but St Maarten seems to only have one way roads and it would also appear that you can have any colours you like provided they're blue, grey or black. The cars also run on a programmed track and disappear at the end of it which can be a touch disconcerting. My box :-Celeron something or other 2.93Ghz512Mb RAMGeForce 6600 graphicsPhillips 5.1 surround sound card (I forget the exact name, sorry). Can't wait for the full product. Hopefully Molyvos on the Greek island of Lesvos actually exists this time round.Nice work ACES.

In the last 12 months I have purchased several add-ons, including on CD the PMDG 737NG, Flight1 ATR 72-500 and several more as d/loads plus FSNav, ActiveSkyv6 and I'm concerned that the revised file structure (Aircraft directory in a folder SimObjects and no Modules folder for FSUIPC) means that many, if not all, of these add-ons will not be able to be installed even though otherwise they are compatible. This especially applies to the ones on CD as there is no way of modifying the installer in that situation. Now I am not prepared to make such purchases and then throw them away so soon. For that reason alone I will not be purchasing FSX on release, even though in other respects I enjoyed the demo. I will wait and see what happens on this issue.Iain Smith

Otherwise, if the directory structure states pretty much the same as with FS9, then there shouldn't be a real big problem with installing the FS9 add-ons onto FSX.

As a simmer enthusiast, I tend to buy any new version fast. I was enchanted by 2k2 and FS9 as soon as they were on my machine. So I got the demo and installed SP2 (arrrgh) just for it ! I expect a lot from this version as it seems to incorporate a lot of new detailed GIS data. Geography is important for me when I fly :-hah.This demo has done the tour de force to convince me that it will prudent this time to stay a little bit on the fence. It is, as far as I am concerned, a marketing disaster. First time I see MS releasing a demo that bad.First, it's buggier than a whole antfarm, I don't fly more than a few minutes without crashing the computer or starting up a graphic mayhem. Demo doesn't spell Bravo Echo Tango Alpha in my book. Changing views for instance is mostly a no go. And any stress to the 'puter coming from having the sliders a little too much to the right brings a crash too on my 3 GHz/1 Mb RAM Pentium loaded with a GEforce 5900-128 !The aircraft are so so at best. The Ultralight wings are blurry as seen from the VC, the Beaver VC is blurry too in certaina areas (look at the quadrant or the right side panel !) and is not as sharp and convincing as the FS9 default planes anyway. Will pass on the fact that the mixture lever is not mousable. More worrying, in a graphically stressing and rapidly changing environnment (fast descent in clouds for instance ) the gauges definitely lack in fluidity as compared not only to models from Realair or Wings of Power but even to FS9 defaults again. And as for the flight model, well my first feeling is that some more work is in order. I will say no more. Is this the same team which designed the beautiful FS9 planes ?The interface looks like it still is the old DOS legacy GUI with a little red on the cheeks ! Version after version, the Aces (do they really call themselves like that ?) do as if Windows's never existed. A big plus though. The flight planner now allows user waypoints and to set up different altitudes on different way points. Much appreciated :-). A big minus, still no way of accessing the map at that stage without using the flight planner. Meaning no way of placing the plane on a map to select an airport.Couldn't fly long enoug to check if the overcast bug (nice as seen from under, yellowish and transparent seen from above) is out.ATC: it seems that the same old "feature" is here. Whatever the frequency you set, you cannot contact a controller in radioelectric range if you are out of the scripted ATC menu. Conclusion : wait and see. It has obviously a great potential but really october 27th ? please take your time.PS If they ever release something like that (it's supposed to be a demo not a beta remember) I fully sympathize with Avsim in advance. I still remember the release of Fly!2 transforming the forums into a madhouse :-eek

It>is, as far as I am concerned, a marketing disaster. First time>I see MS releasing a demo that bad.Instead of replying to each issue, I would just suggest trying the demo again at lower settings, perhaps after a reinstall. I have a similar computer to yours in overall power, a little less in the processor and a little more in the video card, and I have not witnessed a single issue that you mentioned.I don't see any blurry textures in or on the planes themselves, in over 8 hours, and the game has crashed only once, and that was when exiting from a flight.I believe you mean that you have 1GB of RAM, not 1MB. Also, I haven't been able to find any mention of a 5900 Ultra in the 128MB variety, so I am assuming that you mean the standard FX5900, a card that came out in late 2003. Like many here are learning, it can be hard on those kinds of cards to ask them to perform at max on a brand new game, optimized or not. Out of curiosity, what version video driver are you running? I am very curious to learn more about your troubles, to see if there is a specific thing that may be causing it. What kind of processor are you running? What settings do you have the game at when you see this behavior? After a few tweaks, I was able to get incredible detail and usable performance out of my older system. I don't think it's impossible to find that same performance on yours.

I know some already do have their products patched and ready for FSX. That's because there are people at ACES working with these developers. I'm a developer but didn't see such a need. Therefore, my company's product, FS Real Time, will be patched and ready for FSX very soon after FSX is released - at least up to a week after FSX is released. :)

Hithanks for caring.Nice to see people enjoying the demo :-). Really.>I believe you mean that you have 1GB of RAM, not 1MB. oops ! yes of course. I Use the MSI 5900 regular bought in 2002 I guess with 128 mb onboard and driver 7.7.7.2 on a Asus P4C800 with P4 3 GHz overclocked at 3.28. Video card is not overclocked as it's a little hot today in the room.I fly right now the ** Mustang over a UTed Detroit Metro (lotsa traffic, lotsa clouds, visibility 4nm on ground, poor people) and it works great... >trying the demo again at lower settings, The sim works at mid to upper settings or doesn't stay on my computer. BTW I switched off the water effect which seems to be a CPU hog here as it is in FS9. > perhaps after a reinstall. I'll try tomorrow to re d/l and reinstall the demo but I'm not optimistic.

>And what makes you think the add-on developers don't already>have their add-ons working in FSX?Even if the add-on is on CD? Surely that would have to be installed before any patch could be applied and it won't be possibel to install it because the file structure has changed!Iain Smith

Well tdragger,I'm not quite ready for FSX (Not even for FS9 :-roll , but that on a sidenote, but we're getting there finally)I'm working on this DC2, and my xml gauges show up in the 2D panel, but not in the VC. Can you give me a hint???Best, Rob
