I am second generation Norwegian-American.  My grandparents emigrated from Norway and settled on a farm in Michigan where my father was born.

About 30 years or so there was a big family reunion at the farm.  Almost 100 people were there.  That's where I learned my ancestral home was a place called Baverfjord.

I was flying in Orbx's Norway from Alesund north to no place in particular enjoying the scenery when a familiar name popped up on my FS Airport Utility.  It's a popup that gives the name and code of the nearest airport.  Gravvold Airport.  NO17.

Gravvold was my grandmother's maiden name.  The airport is pretty close to Baverfjord so I turned on the GPS and found it.

It's just a grass strip sandwiched between a mountain slope and a creek in a heavily wooded area.  It took me two approaches to land.

I looked it up on the internet but there is no history of the airport.  Just the specs.  I have no idea if Gravvold is a common name or if one of my ancestor was into aviation there.

Never know what you'll find flying from somewhere to someplace killing time in an afternoon.  Sometimes something close to home.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Very interesting.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.

That’s pretty cool Noel.

The sim is a great tool for not only learning about flying but also world geography.

I’ve learned so much about different parts of the world, some of which I would have never known about or bothered to learn about if it wasn’t for the sim. I’ve gained so much knowledge about different cities and countries just because of simming that it actually spurred me on to travel to many parts of South America and Europe, just to see them in person.

The Hunzaa Valley -- I probably would have never heard of the place if it weren't for flight sim.
