So how on earth can an increasing number of payware people claim that their product is 'FSX compatible?'

They can claim it's compatible because they have a beta copy of FSX to test with. They can't disclose any details about FSX tho according to the NDA agreement.

The FSX team are working closely with third party developers on this edition. Some of the blogs make mention of this.
