Other things you can do is try throwing in intellectual sounding, but completely irrelevant latin phrases followed by the words 'as they say' into the conversation and watch as people too afraid to admit that they don't understand what you just said, will nod sagely at you. August 9, 20196 yr Why do I think that MS simply picked up FSW and FSX from Dovetail, and now plans to use its vast resources to do with FSW what Dovetail could not do. After all, the reason why FSW failed is that they were trying to build too many new things without the necessary funding. This also justifies their total silence before E3. They were negotiating with Dovetail and could not say anything until the deal was sealed.

FSW is dead. Also no reason to believe there were protracted secret negotiations. More likely than not, this is the expiration of the licensing deal from 5 years (and 1 month) ago. Justifying total silence before E3? You mean when we had no idea there was a new game in the works in the first place? Was anyone here expecting news before or at E3? I'm sure we can come up with an unanimously agreed list of requirements that REALLY NEED to be in a flightsim in no time! Those amateurs at MS really need some community expertise, have they ever done something aviation related? This! Whatever they do, its wrong. I'm not sure if we really deserve a next gen sim, the entitlement of this community is unbearable and some still spell MS with a dollar sign...a bit childish, isnt it? I M$ust say I agree!! LOL! August 9, 20196 yr I took the two mini updates as further evidence that MS is looking to re-establish a big footprint in the flight sim arena. Some of the biggest complaints of MS Flight was that the flying area was too small, and that MS was getting away from the "sim" aspect, even making planes that only had a 3rd person chase view. Now in 2019, MS announces a new "sim" and... releases a trailer that shows key spots from around the globe and cockpit views releases a detailed photo showing just how serious they are about that cockpit view confirms 3rd party access, SDK etc. reclaims the FSX title lays out further plans to release more info and kick-off the insider program I get the marketing strategy and hype angle (any company will do this); but there are some clear signs that MS is on the right track and listening to see where they can meet expectations.

After all, the reason why FSW failed is that they were trying to build too many new things without the necessary funding. It wasn't just lack of funding that killed FSW. Based on what they delivered, I don't think DTG had a good grasp of the code and how to get past the limitations. They were able to convert it to 64-bit, but I remember still seeing artifacts like blurries and pop-in that they didn't seem able to fix. It's not enough to just convert the old FSX to 64-bits if you're not going to take advantage of the huge increase in memory address space, and solve some of the longtime problems. For this reason, I think many of us are hoping that MS is going back to the drawing board and writing a new sim from scratch. Or at least using bits of code for things like ATC that are not part of the main flight model and scenery generation system. We'll see soon enough what path they're taking. They release a very polished trailer and then talk about FSX and taking over fsx-se and then the development of a new flight simulator. The trailer is a hoax?? The community wants it released. Well at least I do. They can work on supporting fsx and taking over fsx-se somewhere else. Thank you Thank You Thank You!! I know that but in FSW although still being worked at the time I had some great results in FSW that I have not seen in any other sim since, fly through the cloud base and you are totally blind.
