January 18, 200620 yr Is there a way we could possibly gain an estimate on the base install size of this as the project stands now? It was said that the installation media will be on DVD, and with MegaScenery's installation DVD unpacking 12GB of scenery for MegaScenery Volume 4: Pacific Northwest, I figured I'd ask so I know what I'm dealing with in terms of upgrading, etc.
January 18, 200620 yr Just buy something with 4 500GB disks and you may be OK.It will be tight, you won't have much room for installing other applications, but FS should fit.
January 18, 200620 yr If he needs RAID he'll need to double that. That is assuming we aren't talking about a 0+1 configuration... }( Regards,
January 18, 200620 yr <>I'm sure if you looked at FS2004's footprint relative to the media and scaled this to DVD you could probably get pretty close.

What was FS2004's "footprint" relative to the media? The media was 4 Cds (if I recall) and most were almost full expect the one.Can we have it translated into something more direct, say:1. below 5 GB2. above 5 GB and below 8 GB3. above 8GB but below 12 GBetc.......Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.
January 19, 200620 yr >"Ah, but will it be DVD or DVDs?">>To clarify, yes, it will be one of those two.Hehehehe, I can see that you guys are having a bit of fun as well as doing the programmer thing... If FS is all that you plan to install on a hard drive, just get a 200GB HD (or two 80GB drives). These days, the capacities are very large and the price is right.David
January 19, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi,Well For FS9 approx. 500MB each CD average x 4 = 2.0GB which expands to a footprint of about 4GB (2.0 factor). I may be totally off on on the expanded FS9 size... I'm just looking at my current FS9 folder with quite a few add-ons minus my best guess at how much the add-ons take up...DVD max storage is approx 4.5GB each? 1 DVD with 4.0GB * 2.0 expansion factor = 8GB2 DVDs with average 4GB each * 2.0 expansion factor = 16GBetc..Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 19, 200620 yr Sounds good. But unless we know how many DVDs are involved it still amounts to nothing. tdragger knows how to talk without saying anything.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg Michael J.
January 19, 200620 yr " tdragger knows how to talk without saying anything."Which is why he's allowed to comment in public. :)Actually, I believe that even without saying anything concrete, he managed to point any sort speculation in a fruitful manner.Bear in mind that even though we work on the product, for some questions we're not really able to provide full answers-- for many reasons. Some are contractual, some are dependent on feature sets being finalized. It's possible that assumptions we're currently operating under may change, and the last thing any of us want to do is answers the "but you said..." post a gajillion times.Cheers,Jason
January 19, 200620 yr >questions we're not really able to provide full answers-- for>many reasons.Frankly, no one expects here "full" answers. In this thread we are discussing such generalities that if even this is a taboo - what remains is pretty much useless information.
