August 24, 20196 yr Summary: .) Exhaust thrust in turboprops is now modeled (can be set in plane-maker); .) More accurate modeling of wake turbulence, also for AI aircrafts; .) More accurate modeling of the interaction between propwash and airspeed; should especially effects aircrafts in crosswind and VTOLs; .) Improved modeling of helical propwash and its interaction with tail surfaces; .) Improved modeling of washflow through rotor disk; effects helicopters and VTOLs; tuned using flight test data of the experimental VTOL Austin is working on; .) Modeling the delay in downwash from wings to stabilizers; should make aircrafts less sensitive than they are now; (a pleasant surprise for me; I emailed Austin about this a few years ago; didn't expect he would do it!); .) Bug correction: T-tails are not considered as surfaces with endplates anymore; (endplates reduce induced drag); .) Plane-maker has now an entry to account for area rule drag reduction; useful for tuning drag during high subsonic/transonic speeds; .) Water waves have now a more realistic shape; also fuselage damping in water has been introduced; these should produce a more realistic behaviour of seaplanes in water; .) More accurate aerodynamic coefficients for moving surfaces (ailerons, etc.); He also talks about the new MFS. Recognizes the trailer is looking fantastic, but also says XP has always co-existed alongside MSFS since FS95, that the two products have always been a little different, and that he is not worried. (I hope Ben is more worried than him though, because they have to up their game. ☺️ ). Finally a conspiracy rant about oil vehicle lobbies trying to make Tesla go bankrupt. Well nobody's perfect after all. 🙂 "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
August 25, 20196 yr You just ruined my weekend Murmur.. The 1 week install cycle had gone through it's full course, XP11 was already uninstalled, P3D too, IL-2 back to play and ELITE in good shape, all while my mental maze was getting prepared to Love FS2020 and only FS2020... I was packing my stuff to go on vacations, Internet provider was going to get a break... And you do me this?!!!! 🙂 He's done it again, I hope.... Pretty much all of what I see above is simply a MUST-HAVE, and if done the right way - but that's another story... - it'll keep XP11, and 12... Alive & Kicking ! Now, how the ... can't he work on proper Moon phase and daylight ????? Guess I know - Austin works all night long, inside he's XP oven, so he never comes out to watch the Moon, or check that daylight is sometimes rather out-of-sync with reality... Well, no one is perfect, otherwise wouldn't be here 🙂 Edited August 25, 20196 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Well, no one is perfect, otherwise wouldn't be here 🙂 Heh... that must be it. 🙂 Isn't this problem tied to the lack of an actual calendar in XP? I remember reading somewhere that there is no internal calculation of days and months, which could explain why this hasn't been fixed yet. If that's the case, then it's a bigger underlying problem than just importing ephemeris data. If we get seasonal changes in XP12, and I hope we do, then we should expect correct behavior from sun and moon. August 25, 20196 yr Amazing. I always told my students that flying was PFM - first word Pure, last word Magic, middle word optional.
August 25, 20196 yr I think Austin gave a very good illustration of the flight model improvements and explaining the details where you won’t find this kind information from other sims. I also feel the video spoke for itself in terms of his belief in his development philosophy and what his thinking when it comes to FS2020. When he said that Xplane has co-exist with the Microsoft offerings since FS95, it is because it has. He may not have won in terms of marketing size but he has not gone away either, while continually making improvement along the way. As a consequence, he has seen a dramatic increase in market size and appeal of the sim in the last 3 to 4 years. One would argue that that may slow down but I think he is not a bit worried or concern and why should he? When he can casually speak about the wake turbulent during a demo video of a product and decide that he will look to it. It was only a week or two later he had it implement in the sim, demonstrated it in a video that is now in the Alpha release 11.40. It speaks volumes of his capabilities which gives me the impression that he still has a lot more up his sleeves that we are not aware of. I think focusing on what you know best in terms of the core function of flight from its Physics Base roots are important because this is what most people who like Xplane find in it the most appealing that just doesn’t go away. Weather, ATC, seasons and other elements that are important as well but those things are peripherals on the surface that has to give way to the core issue that must be dealt with first which impacts performance. That is getting the code base move to from Opengl to Vulcan. Once that is done, I think we will start seeing more video like this when those improvements begin to rollout. Bob
August 25, 20196 yr José, that’s the circle of life. The second best uninstaller can feel your pain, enjoy your next installation.
August 26, 20196 yr Dear Ralf, yes, X-Plane has always captured my attention because of the way Austin sometimes finds time to dedicate to it and give a big push fwd in development. There are times of stagnation, like when during a good part of the XP10 cycle Austin was highly involved in he's fight against the Patent Trolls. XP11 came up with expectations for better support, and indeed it did receive a lot more of support from Austin, and we saw that "experimental flight model" being introduced and now yet new features that depending on how they're fine tuned with feedback from those users who have better knowledge about their details ( not my case... ), and Austin being open to at least read the feedback and answer every email as he always did, have good chances of making XP an even more sound and complete simulator. I love & hate X-Plane, but I've heard along my life that this is supposedly the strongest type of relationship, and the one that actually creates the best sharing of experiences, although I would prefer a fairy tail love & love variant 🙂 I'll install XP11 again, and surely will give 11.40 a fair try. Honestly you are just making it hard for yourself and causing frustration , just keep XP installed with it's bare minimums. Don't like the changes don't use it. But it's your choice. August 26, 20196 yr Yes, this update surely would be interesting. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
August 26, 20196 yr X-Plane occupies the middle ground between Average Joe/Jane (MSFS) and nerd (FlightGear) and that's what I kind of like about it. Basically the OSX among flightsims. And Austin's enthusiasm, while hard to follow at times (I wouldn't want to have him as a professor teaching classes), is just a refreshing change from all the businesslike other sims. He and his product are synonymous with each other. Who else in that field can claim something similar? 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
August 28, 20196 yr There are already a few youtubes of users testing 11.40, but this one in particular captured my attention because it show a big advance in the simulation of rotary wing: (not my video - it's from an 11.40b1 user...) August 29, 20196 yr So.... I couldn't resist before the 1 week hiatus from flightsimming and asked Austin for the 11.40 beta, which he promptly replied with the link and yet another link to he's web page - interesting to visit! I dodn't have much time to test XP11.40, but what I tested I liked, specially a chpper I really like - that Bell 412 by X-Trident. Also tested wake turbulence. I just couldn't make FSGRW 64 bit run with this beta - it keeps saying it can't find the simulator, or it is not running ... anyway, in XP11 default weather pretty much suffices. August 29, 20196 yr Author How is wake turbulence? Seaplane dynamics? Does downwash delay reduces pitch sensitivity? "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
