September 18, 20196 yr I have a Rift CV1 and fly in P3dV4.5. It works very well, but, has the normally visible screen door effect and relatively poor resolution. I am considering purchase of the Rift S as a replacement. I would really like to hear from folks who have purchased the Rift S to replace the Rift CV1 for use with P3D. My computer system is fairly strong: 8700K @ 4.99 ghz, and, 1080TI. I can hold 45 fps in most locations with P3D settings at Very Dense. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards, Danny Danny
September 18, 20196 yr It's worth the upgrade. The 'S' is definetly much better in every aspect. The system requirements are the same, so if the CV1 performed adequetely, so will the S. Nightflying is the joker with the S as it's an LCD display which means black levels aren't great, but some tinkering with brightness, bloom and saturation levels, I found even here the CV1 is outperformed. September 18, 20196 yr Author Andreh, thanks for the response. How visible is the screen door effect? I have seen reports that it is just not visible and reports that it is, but, much better than the CV1. Also, how have you found the comfort compared to the CV1? I use a prescription insert for the CV1, do you use one? Danny Danny
September 18, 20196 yr Screen Door Effect is there but is minimal. Yes you can see it if you're really looking for it but that can easily lead to a crash! You'll need new prescription inserts as the fitting and shape is different. You can use glasses but they'll add to the faff factor. Comfort? I reckon that depends on yer face. I find it marginally less comfortable than the CV1, I tend to want to reposition it somewhat. Having stated what I consider negatives, I have a 6 month old CV1 in my wardrobe waiting for someone to give me £75 + postage for it. Get an S and stop fretting. The World is divided into two groups. September 18, 20196 yr Author Thanks Ron. Appreciate the reply. I figured I would need new inserts. Your comment about comfort is interesting. Is the S not stable on the head? I ask because I use a motion platform and it does move a bit during any particular flight. I know the S uses a different configuration to mount to the head than the CV1. I do have to tighten the CV1 down firmly to maintain a steady display. By the way, how do you find the tracking of the S compared to the CV1? I have heard that the tracking on the S isn't as precise as the CV1. Tracking is a bit of a concern due to the motion platform motion. Danny Danny
September 18, 20196 yr Like I said, I think it depends on your face/head., so I can't say more than that. Tracking I've not noticed any issues. There are no reflector thingies to be out of range of so make of that what you may. Buy it, try it if it doesn't suit send it back. You have 30 days. You'll hear all sorts on teh interwebs you can only find out for yourself. Then you can become an expert. The World is divided into two groups. September 18, 20196 yr I find tracking to better than the CV1, although I only used 2 sensors when I had the CV1. Screendoor effect is still there but significantly improved. Like, Ron said, comfort is probably subjective. I find it better than the CV1. The only thing that isn't better is sound, but just plug a pair of good in ear headphones and you're all set.

Danny I find all the improvements stated as well and have no regret with my upgrade. Additionally I sold my CV1 Rift on eBay in a week for $240 (I always keep original packaging it helps sell) not bad since I only paid $325 on sale at BestBuy.
