How is ATC in FSX Beta?

Featured Replies

Hi Andy,Please show us the last version of FS that used the "as real as it gets" theme. It's not on my FS95 floppysIt's not on my FS98 CDIt's not on my FS2000 CDIt is on my FS2002 CDIt's not on my FS2004 CDI have yet to see it on any FSX cover or disk.So 15 years from now are you still going to remind us that FSXV is still not "as real as it gets"? Or are you going to drop this or does a marketing theme have everlasting life?Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

>You have far too much time on your hands. Go for a walkI take it 'walk' in your statment can be translated into (hike).;-) Andy 'Jammer' Simmons.

>Hi Andy,>>Please show us the last version of FS that used the "as real>as it gets" theme. You obviously know about that to which I refer, therefore it seems to be somehow permanently attached to FS in some way.............even X years later. That's kind of the point of advertising Jim.>It's not on my FS95 floppysYet you have heard of it.>It's not on my FS98 CDYet you have heard of it>It's not on my FS2000 CDYet you have heard of it>It is on my FS2002 CDI think you get my point>It's not on my FS2004 CDWould one more time be too much?>I have yet to see it on any FSX cover or disk.>So 15 years from now are you still going to remind us that>FSXV is still not "as real as it gets"? Or are you going to>drop this or does a marketing theme have everlasting life?Ask me again in 14 years 364 days. And just record I dont recall posting a reply to you until now. So if you are going to put your $.02 worth into someone eles conversation, politness would dictate not asking them to drop it.The point is not that FS is not 'As real as it gets' only that MS clearly has no intentions to make it so. >Jim>>http://www.hifisim.com/>Active Sky V6 Development Team >Active Sky V6 Proud Supporter>HiFi Beta Team>Radar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/>AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/>FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/I see your involved with a 3rd party developer, it seem folks like that stand to make out like bandits fixing the things MS should have. Assuming this wasnt part of the plan to begin with. Lets see, if I intend to fly FSX I need to pay MS $45 (wooow dont shoot, it's a guess I dont claim to know how much it will cost). After that I get to plunk down more $ to make it................................wait for it now..................................................................'As real as it gets' ;-) Nothing personal Jim, it's just a game.Andy 'Jammer' Simmons.

I guess from the blog (link above), it's safe to say that ATC won't change drastically (if at all) for future releases no matter how many times we ask for a change."As for the future of the ATC feature, I have to question how long we should carry it along. The long range future of the franchise will be on-line and getting the ATC system to work on line is a nightmare concept. I am all for retaining a single player experience into the future, so maybe it will continue to be maintained going forward, but it will be a little unlikely that we will invest a lot of time and money expanding the system further (I can hear the cries of unfair treatment and M$ commentary already)."(My emphasis above).

>Please show us the last version of FS that used the "as real>as it gets" theme.Jim,"As real as it gets" has been used by Microsoft in its avertising of the FS series. For example I just opened the new October issue of "Plane&Pilot" and there is a spread-page advertisment for FSX and this slogan is prominently featured there - in bold letters. Of course it is just a marketing slogan - at least I look at it this way.Michael J.

I have been flying a lot in the FS world recently, long haul flights, programmed with fsbuild or fsnav, exported to the game, loaded in before I start a flight, then am able to ask for clearance, fly sids, and sometimes fly stars, except the ATC still vectors me to other places sometimes, even if I select the correct approach.Anyway, here are my suggestions for FSXIATC clears you to fly sid/stars and calls them by name, understands you are flying it and doesnt ask you to change headingATC vectors you around storms, turbulance, high amounts of trafficthe ability to request "direct to" next waypoints, airport, etc.the ability to customize what flight level increases or decreases you want, not being locked to a thousand up or down but if I want FL345 I can ask for itbetter handling of AI traffic, proper spacing, including that of heavier aircraft and telling AI and player to reduce speed on approaching airspaces, and leaving, such as the class speed restrictions, etcbetter handling of ground ops, clearing airplanes to cross a runway before another airplane lands (currently they could be on a 20 mile final and the tower still wont let me cross) and better use of the taxiways to keep aircraft going face to face at a minimumthe ability to have airports open multiple runways at once, including crossing runways, without having to open the up afcad and create fake runways to trick the gamedifferent transition altitudes and speed restrictions for most major airspaces around the globedifferent accents for different countries, and the ability to assign a country to an Ai or player airline. so if I am flying aeroflot, or I hear an Ai aeroflot on the freq. it would be great if they were assigned one of the handful of Russian accent voicepacksIn my dreams, I guess, but this would totally transform the game, and really live up to the "as real as it gets"Microsoft has the resources, if they want to add all this to the game for a release in 2-4 years from now, They could.

OK fair enough! And of course it is!!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I am just curious with regard to Radar Contact, Does it control all the countless ai that is installed as well and make them fly holding patterns too?

I've looked at the code for SimConnect, and everything you've asked for can be done.

i keep them out of your way, keep them from taxiing onto the active, move them out of your way on finali do not put them in holding pattern.jd

>blimy>>That is some ambition notasenator>>If you need any help or info, id be happy to help out.>>Is about time I gave something back to a game a lot has given>me!Well, there's a lot of questions to be answered down the road, along the lines of actual airlines, flight plans to match somewhat realistic routing, getting and entering all the real world routines (SID/STARS and all that nonsense)Right now, I'm just working with the default AI and coming up with a plan for extending it.

Hey Brian, that is awesome news! I may have to switch over to FSX sooner than I expected! I wish you the best of luck and would happily help out in any way I can!
