How is ATC in FSX Beta?

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm curious. How is ATC in FSX Beta? Is it better than FS9? Are there new features, less 'go-arounds' of AI, better reacting AI and are multiple take-off (landing) runways in use by AI (not only selecting the nearest runway from the stand but at random)? Maybe the Beta-testers are prohibited to say something in detail, but maybe they can say if it's better than FS9 or not, or the same, etc.Better ATC can be one of the reasons for me to upgrade to FSX.Regards,Jeroen van SchoneveldVelserbroekThe Netherlandshttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpgASUS A8N-SLI, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2,4 Ghz) San Diego processor, 2Gb DDR 400 Mhz Corsair Mem, ASUS V6800 PCIE Ultra 256 MB video

Doesn't seem to have changed at all.

As far as I can tell, overall it is smoother. I was flying into Miami and I was the ONLY plane I heard go around since I was too close to begin with. Also, I was cleared for approach 8L but since I was coming in at a different speed than the AI I asked for runway 8R. The ATC said I was cleared for the approach of rwy 8L sidestep 8R. I never tried that in FS9 so I am not sure that was any different but I thought it was cool.

I don't have the beta, but I seem to remember someone saying that they've fixed the go-around thing, by stopping all the aircraft appearing at once

Alaister Kay

Go arounds are an issue in fs9 only because we throw far more traffic in there than default ATC was ever designed to handle. That being said if fsx has the capability to account for 3rd party traffic densities that would be nice.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

Nothing at all has changed in FSX (especially concerning ATC) with the exception of the hardware requirement and graphics...

I agree, also the whole interface is seems more fluid. The ATC window logs transmissions in a scrollable pane and you can 'click' on the option instead of pressing the number key if you wish.I'm not sure what other changes have been made, I haven't really dived into using the new ATC much yet.

Actually I hear the spacing of AI aircraft has improved, such that the "go-arounds" issue is supposedly lessened.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

I do not have the Beta...just the demo. In the demo folder there is a Word doc named credits. Scroll down until you see the credits for ATC voices. In the demo there are 10 names that seem to be the same as FS9 (maybe 1 different)...so I don't think we will hear any new voices. Perhaps in the Beta of Final that is different.

What a pitty MS spends time on those peanuts (animated animals, cars etc. pp.). Nobody, absolutely nobody ever complained that they aren't there. I wonder what will be next - moving grass? They should rather improve the ATC by all its components (accents, SID/STAR etc. pp.).I hope there will be an Addon that upgrades the ATC... something like Edit Voicepack.Just my 2 cents.Regards,Mariusclassic3.jpg

Carmine and Bernard,Do you have the beta version? I thought that in the Microsoft survey the result was that the FS community wanted better artificial intellegence. Like "not all planes running for take off to one runway if there are more possibilities for other runways" and "more logical parking at gates for GA and commercial planes", "less turn-arounds". Overall "better intelligence" is what we want. Is Microsoft aware of the results of their own survey and are they programming according these wishes? The new ATC interface of "mouse clicking" is an improvement but not world-shocking overall. It seems to me that on the ATC front nothing realy changes? Is that correct?Regards,Jeroen van SchoneveldVelserbroekThe Netherlandshttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpgASUS A8N-SLI, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2,4 Ghz) San Diego processor, 2Gb DDR 400 Mhz Corsair Mem, ASUS V6800 PCIE Ultra 256 MB video

Marius,I agree. I'm a commercial virtual pilot. When I'm airborne I don't want to see cars driving highways, cows in the field, birds in the air or sailing boats in the harbor. I'm flying FL 350 to 380. I don't see them from that high in the air. Let Microsoft concentrate on the survey results like, dynamic weather (ASV is the best!!!!), ATC (if it isn't better than FS9 I hope the Radar Contact guys will release their upgrade very soon), mesh (FSGenesis is best the now), FPS and Flight dynamics (the 737 series from Posky has the best dynamics until now). I know there are many options to remove the silly add-ons like cows and cars (looking at the demo), but I think (for me as a commercial plane simmer) Microsoft must do much more improvement and spend time on ATC. Don't quote me wrong, I realize that for GA simmers cows and cars can be candy add-ons, but not for me.Regards,Jeroen van SchoneveldVelserbroekThe Netherlandshttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpgASUS A8N-SLI, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2,4 Ghz) San Diego processor, 2Gb DDR 400 Mhz Corsair Mem, ASUS V6800 PCIE Ultra 256 MB video
