September 12, 200619 yr Hi,RCv4 solves many, many problems with ATC in FS9. For example, better airport guidance, better AI movements, better handling of take-off and landings, realistic use of runways according to the dynamic weather, use of SID/STARS, more realistic voices of controlers, better airplane seperation in the airways.I think I will encourage the RC-people to work hard on the upgrade to FSX.Regards,Jeroen van SchoneveldVelserbroekThe Netherlandshttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpgASUS A8N-SLI, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2,4 Ghz) San Diego processor, 2Gb DDR 400 Mhz Corsair Mem, ASUS V6800 PCIE Ultra 256 MB video Regards, Jeroen The Netherlands
September 12, 200619 yr James,Ofcourse, FSX will be (in time) a better sim. But only because we, the community, are making it better. Don't get me wrong, thats good, we community people have to have a hobby. All I want to say is that MS is saying "we listen to the community, do a survey, make all things (200%) better and we are taking a huge step forward". That's not the case and not true. According to many threads I have read the last few months there will be no world-shocking changes.I'm not wining about FSX. For me ATC is important, and if its not improved in FSX, than I hope the RC-people will upgrade their product very fast. Ofcourse I will buy FSX (I have no choice), but I will be disappointed in the project if only the the ATC interface is changed.Regards,Jeroen van SchoneveldVelserbroekThe Netherlandshttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpgASUS A8N-SLI, AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2,4 Ghz) San Diego processor, 2Gb DDR 400 Mhz Corsair Mem, ASUS V6800 PCIE Ultra 256 MB video Regards, Jeroen The Netherlands
September 12, 200619 yr Some minor improvements and tweaking was done to the FSX AI engine but not much is new.See:http://blogs.technet.com/p-12c_pilot/archi.../24/449488.aspxThey don't see much future for AI ATC, the focus is multiplayer.http://www.cpavirtual.org/images/banners/MyNewCrapBanner.jpgEric Thornton - CX001 - http://www.virtualairline.org Eric Thornton
September 12, 200619 yr >For me ATC is important, and if its>not improved in FSX, than I hope the RC-people will upgrade>their product very fast.Or someone else will make their own version of AI/ATC control for FSX.
September 12, 200619 yr "All I want to say is that MS is saying "we listen to the community, do a survey, make all things (200%) better and we are taking a huge step forward". That's not the case and not true. According to many threads I have read the last few months there will be no world-shocking changes"Just curious if there is a link to the survey as a few questions surface such as: Is ATC the only enhancement suggested? If not, what other enhancements were implemented per the survey? Also, world-shocking changes are in the eye of the beholder. Here's an idea, and it's been said many times in the forum, compare FSX to the stock FS9. Maybe those world shocking changes may be more visible. Too each his own though and intelligent discussion leads to intelligent solutions. Here's my personal opinion: I like the demo, I enjoy flying the planes and enjoyed the missions in the demo, I like the living world and the ambiance it creates and have enjoyed the screen shots and movies. I know RC will be upgraded, I know if I ever decide to plunge into the heavies that most of the complex aircraft will be upgraded along with a whole host of other 3rd party options. I am aware of the imperfections in FSX beta but consider the age of FS9 and the CPU deficit caused by the gigabytes worth of add-ons that are dragging down my humble system. Balancing and processing all this information I have concluded that FSX Final would be a prudent purchase as the pros far outweigh the cons. Change is sometimes good.Ian.
September 12, 200619 yr I'll quote you Alex's post, one above mine concerning FSX.RH"no big changes in ATC, no big changes in preventing go-arounds, no big changes in using crossing runways infact some say its even harder now to trick the game into using them, still no sid/stars by the ATC, etc add infinity"but hey, we have birds and cars and ships now....______________-Alex
September 12, 200619 yr Moderator NotASenator,<>It will take the resources of more than one person. Radar Contact is not the work of one man or even two or three. There are a number of highly qualified people including real world controllers (both US and UK based) that provide the rules and professional expertise which are then coded into the program. And then there is the minor task of recording and processing tens of thousands of wav files to provide two-way communication.I suppose if someone started work on a new version today it might be available in a year. It's an incredibly complex program to produce which is why there hasn't been a profusion of them.Is it fair to expect Microsoft to produce ATC to the standards of the real world? The team is very small and works incredibly hard to improve on the previous version. The default 737 is a simplified version of the real thing and so is the ATC.FSX is aimed at the mass market - not a specialist one and for Joe Public the ATC is probably brilliant. If you want something more complex then 3rd party products are the answer be it a 747, weather or in this case Air Traffic Control.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). September 12, 200619 yr Ray,I appreciate your input on the issue. My post was meant to be sort of a "hint, hint" type of thing. I understand fully the complexity of the task. At the moment, I just have one airport getting filled up with default AI by my program and "staggering" their release to taxi, which isn't necessarily accurate, but it's a start. As of right now, it's not just me, or just two or three people, so I think I'm on my way to a pretty good start. But, hey. Time will tell, right?
September 12, 200619 yr Commercial Member there is very little i have to do for fsx. i just need a little time to test with the release version of fsx.jd JD Read my blog

September 12, 200619 yr Moderator Hi NAS,Ah so you're writing something to control Ai? I hadn't picked up on that. So we have some competition then :-) It'll keep us on our toes ;-) The ability to control Ai will be welcomed by John Dekker too. It was always a struggle with FS9. They always wanted to break free and do their own thing :-grrGood luck with your project! Ray (Cheshire, England). It has years of experience and the support of the community. When reading over the countless posts here about the lack of improved AI, I began thinking about why they hadn't worked on it more, and they explained it clearly, I think. But that thought was left with me of "How would I do it?" So I have started tinkering and getting some people to help.If it turns into something, well, then that's great, and there will be an alternative to Radar Contact, but as of now, it's a project, and nothing more.I look forward to meeting you guys at the AVSIM conference, and I'll buy you all drinks.
September 12, 200619 yr his happens with every release.Nobody is forcing anyone to buy FSX or stay with FS9.We all have our own opinions and choices. But, to make the statement -"I'm holding off and many of my friends are doing the same. I know simmers all over the world and this is the general consensus."I just can't see this being accurate. Sure, in your group of friends, the consensus is to hold off. Fine - that's your choice.I'm sure there are other "groups of friends" that will buy FSX.Where does the majority stand? Will more stay with FS9? For how long?Sheesh - WHO CARES !!!!Eventually, as has happened with most of the FS releases, the majorityof people will buy (eventually) the latest release.Folks - it's not a moral decision - it's not a right or wrong. And by the continued statements to say "don't buy" ... "I'll stickwith FS9", etc. please don't think you'll be able to persuade the masses to stick with FS9 and not buy/support/purchase FSX.JerryGP.S. Rant over ... apologies.
September 12, 200619 yr Thanks Geof,I agree with you...But, we shouldn't pressure Microsoft to make it TOO " ... as real as it gets ..." :-lolJerryG
